Frequently Asked Questions - 22003 KENMORE

What are the electrical requirements for the Kenmore 22003 microwave?
The microwave requires a 120 V, 60 Hz, AC-only, 15-20 amp grounded outlet. A time-delay fuse or circuit breaker and a dedicated circuit are recommended for safe operation.
Can this microwave be installed over a built-in wall oven?
Yes, it can be installed above a built-in wall oven, provided there is a minimum of 3 inches (7.6 cm) between the top of the lower oven cutout and the microwave oven cutout floor.
What are the required cutout dimensions?
The cutout must be at least 16 3/4 inches high, 25 1/2 inches wide, and 19 1/2 inches deep (22 inches if the receptacle is inside the cabinet). The trim frame requires an additional 1-inch clearance on all sides for airflow.
How do I install the anti-tip bracket?
Position the template on the cutout floor, mark screw hole centers, drill holes, and attach the anti-tip bracket with the provided round-head screws. Ensure the bracket engages properly with the microwave's bottom bracket.
What tools are needed for installation?
You will need gathering tools such as a drill, screwdrivers, awl or center punch, measuring tape, and a level. The manual lists specific tools required for drilling pilot holes and securing brackets.
Is the microwave vented? How does airflow work?
The trim kit design allows airflow from the top, bottom, and sides of the trim frame. It is critical to maintain at least 1 inch of clearance beyond the trim frame edges to prevent damage or malfunction.
What are the trim kit options for this model?
Three trim kits are available: 111.2200981 (Black) for 29 13/16-inch width, 111.2200381 (Stainless Steel) for 29 13/16-inch width, and 111.2270381 (Stainless Steel) for 26 13/16-inch width.
Can I use an extension cord?
No, extension cords are not allowed. If the power cord is too short, have a qualified electrician install a proper outlet near the microwave oven.
What should I do if the grounding instructions are unclear?
Consult a qualified electrician or serviceman. Improper grounding can cause electric shock. Always follow local codes and use a grounded 3-prong outlet.
How long is the warranty?
Kenmore offers a 1-year limited warranty from the date of sale. With proof of purchase, you can return the defective product to the retailer for free replacement. The warranty is void if used for non-household purposes.

■ A time-delay fuse or time-delay circuit breaker.

■ A separate circuit serving only this microwave oven.

GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS

■ For all cord connected appliances:

The microwave oven must be grounded. In the event of an electrical short circuit, grounding reduces the risk of electric shock by providing an escape wire for the electric current. The microwave oven is equipped with a cord having a grounding wire with a grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an outlet that is properly installed and grounded.

WARNING: Improper use of the grounding plug can result in a risk of electric shock. Consult a qualified electrician or serviceman if the grounding instructions are not completely understood, or if doubt exists as to whether the microwave oven is properly grounded.

Do not use an extension cord. If the power supply cord is too short, have a qualified electrician or serviceman install an outlet near the microwave oven.
