Frequently Asked Questions - D8125 BOSCH

What is the Bosch D8125 used for?
The Bosch D8125 is a recessed magnetic contact used for detecting the open/close status of doors and windows in security alarm systems.
How do I install the D8125?
Drill a 3/4-inch (19 mm) hole in the frame for the contact and a smaller hole for the magnet. Route the wires to the alarm panel and connect as per the wiring diagram (normally open or closed). Secure the contact and magnet with screws.
What is the maximum gap between the contact and magnet?
The maximum recommended gap is 0.75 inches (19 mm) for reliable operation.
Is the D8125 compatible with third-party panels?
The D8125 is a standard reed switch and can be used with most alarm panels that accept normally open or normally closed loops, but compatibility should be verified with the panel specifications.
How do I wire the D8125?
The D8125 has two wires. Connect them to the alarm panel's zone input. For a normally closed (NC) circuit, use the NC contact; for normally open (NO), use the NO contact. Refer to the manual for polarity if required.
Can I use the D8125 outdoors?
The D8125 is designed for indoor use on windows and doors. For outdoor applications, choose a weatherproof magnetic contact.
What is the operating temperature range?
The operating temperature is -30°F to 150°F (-34°C to 65°C).
How do I test the D8125?
Connect the D8125 to a multimeter set to continuity. With the magnet near, the circuit should close (or open depending on configuration). Separate the magnet to verify the opposite state.
Do I need a tamper switch with the D8125?
The D8125 does not include an internal tamper. Use a panel tamper or a separate tamper switch if required by regulations.
What if my D8125 stops working?
Check wiring connections and alignment. If the reed switch is faulty, replace the entire contact assembly. Spare parts are available from Bosch distributors.

The D8125 Addressable Expansion Module works with the D9127U or D9127T POPIT Modules to provide multiplex technology that combines zone or point supervision with individual device addressing on one pair of wires. Use the D8125 to provide expansion beyond the standard number of control panel zones, up to a total of 238 points. Each D8125 module can fully supervise 119 D9127U or D9127T POPIT Modules.

System overview

Each D8125 installs in the control panel enclosure or in an adjacent approved enclosure. Future system expansion is very economical as D9127U or D9127T POPITs can be spliced in anywhere along the two-wire data expansion loop from the D8125 module.

The D9127 is a compact, addressable device that is suitable for applications where specifications call for point identification from each initiating device or series of devices. The units are small, and easily installed in standard outlet boxes, above false ceilings, closets, or other accessible locations.

The D8125 includes a 33 kΩ end-of-line (EOL) resistor. Install the resistor at the farthest point on the loop for proper supervision.
