Frequently Asked Questions - Sport Classic 1216392 Ebel

How to set the time on my Ebel Sport Classic 1216392 watch?
Pull the crown to position C (for models with calendar) or B (without calendar). Turn it clockwise to the exact time. Push the crown back to position A. If the crown is screw-down, unscrew it first. Remember to screw it back after setting.
How to set the date on my watch?
Pull the crown to position B. Turn it in one direction or the other until the correct date is displayed. Push the crown back to position A. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and midnight (changing phase) as the mechanism may be damaged; set to the next day if necessary.
My watch is automatic, how do I wind it?
For automatic models, before wearing the watch, manually wind it by turning the crown 20 times clockwise (position A). Active wearing for at least 8 hours per day maintains the power reserve. If you do not wear it for 24 hours, wind it again.
How to use the chronograph?
Press push button a to start timing. Press a again to stop. Read the counters: hours (6 o'clock), minutes (9 o'clock), seconds (center). Press push button b to reset to zero.
The chronograph hands are not at zero, how to adjust them?
Pull the crown to position C. Press push buttons a and b simultaneously for 2 seconds (the seconds hand rotates 360°). Use push button a to adjust the seconds hand step by step or continuously, then press b to switch to the hours hand (6 o'clock), adjust with a, then b for the minutes hand (9 o'clock). Push the crown back to position A.
How to maintain my Ebel watch?
Rinse the watch and metal bracelet with fresh water after each use in salty or dusty environments. Clean with a soft brush and liquid soap. Avoid magnetic fields. Have the water resistance checked annually by an authorized center.
Can I wear my watch in the shower or pool?
Yes, your watch is water resistant for shower, swimming and water sports (not diving). However, never operate the crown or push buttons when the watch is wet or immersed.
When should I replace my watch's battery?
The battery typically lasts 2 to 3 years. Have it replaced by an EBEL authorized center, which will also change the gaskets and test water resistance. The battery is guaranteed for 2 years.
What does the Ebel warranty cover?
The international warranty covers any manufacturing defects for 3 years from the date of purchase from an authorized retailer. Leather straps are excluded. The battery is guaranteed for 2 years. Any unauthorized servicing voids the warranty.
My watch stops after exposure to a magnetic field, what to do?
A quartz watch normally resumes function after leaving the magnetic field. If it remains affected, take it to an EBEL retailer for demagnetization (necessary for mechanical watches).

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS - ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR AUTOMATIC MODELS

Power reserve

An important feature of every self-winding watch is its power reserve. Before putting your watch on, you should wind it up manually (20 clockwise turns of the crown) in order to create an initial power reserve for its operation.

To retain its power reserve, the watch must be worn continuously and actively for at least 8 hours per day. Should you be unable to wear your watch for the minimum amount of time each day or should it be left idle for 24 hours at a stretch, wind it manually as outlined above.

Our technical centers will be glad to answer any questions you may have about winding your automatic watch.

Manual winding

If your watch is equipped with a screw-down crown, it must be unscrewed before you can set the time or date.

Crown in position A.

If the watch has not been worn for several days, wind it up manually by carefully turning the crown clockwise for 20 revolutions.

Once you have done so, the movement of your wrist during normal daily activities will automatically wind your watch.

CARE AND WARRANTY

Care for the watch

All EBEL watches are tested to meet international standards for water resistance. Like all mechanisms, your watch and its metal bracelet are subject to wear, especially since your watch runs day after day without interruption. It is therefore important to care for your watch properly, and, in particular, to protect it rigorously against moisture and dust.

The water resistance of your EBEL wristwatch has been tested under conditions corresponding to submersion in water to the depth engraved on the case-back. We recommend that you routinely rinse your watch and its metal bracelet carefully with fresh water and clean them with a soft brush and liquid soap. Such steps, if carried out regularly, will help preserve the watch and prevent it from getting clogged with dust and sweat, especially after being worn in a pool or the sea, or while you are engaged in a sport that involves exposure to dust or sand. Your EBEL watch can be worn safely in the shower, while swimming or during aquatic sports, but it must never be used as a diving watch. Do not operate the watch crown, the push-buttons on a chronograph model, or any other pushers buttons when the timepiece is wet or under water.

The exposure of a timepiece to strong magnetic fields will affect its time-keeping, and may cause it to stop. A quartz watch should resume working with its original accuracy when removed from the magnetic field; a mechanical timepiece may require demagnetization before it will operate again. If this happens, take the watch to an EBEL dealer.

The EBEL brand will not be responsible for any damage caused by or related to leakage originating from improper handling or damage to the case, crown, gaskets or crystal.

To ensure a watch's water-resistant integrity, yearly maintenance is required. The gaskets and crown which seal the case are subject to wear and deterioration under normal use. These parts should be inspected and replaced as needed each time the watch is opened for service, including battery changes.

Your Authorized EBEL service center will automatically retest your watch for water resistance as a routine step in all service orders.

Finally, any operation carried out by an authorized EBEL service center is automatically covered by a 12-month warranty, even if the 3-year warranty has expired.

Warranty

Except for leather straps, all EBEL watches are covered by an international warranty against any manufacturing defect, that will be honored by all EBEL official service centers. The EBEL warranty is valid for a period of three years from the date of purchase of the watch from the authorized retailer.

For quartz watches, the battery is covered by the warranty for two years from the date of purchase only. Beyond these years of warranty, the cost of replacement of the battery at an official EBEL service center shall be borne by the consumer. Such a service includes: control of the movement; battery replacement; watch-case gaskets replacement and water-resistance test.

This international warranty shall only be valid if the watch has been purchased from a retailer approved by EBEL or its distributors, whose name, address and signature must appear on the front of the warranty card together with the date of purchase, the model of the watch and its serial number.

This warranty card must be presented together with the watch to an official EBEL service center or dealer for all in-warranty servicing. Any work performed on an EBEL watch by an unauthorized person or entity, or any alteration to the serial number engraved on the watch, shall automatically render this international warranty null and void.

All EBEL watches are accompanied with directions for use including recommendations of care and maintenance that should be respected. This international warranty does not apply in case of damage resulting from improper use or mistreatment of the watch.

The terms of this international warranty do not in any way restrict or otherwise affect any possible statutory rights to which the consumer may be entitled by law in the country of purchase.
