Safety information
THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED.
Mains supply
This television is designed to operate from a 110-240 Volt, 50-60Hz AC mains supply. Other power sources may damage it. Check that the voltage marked on the rating label on the back cover of the television matches your local supply before you plug it in for the first time.
Mains plug
We have fitted this television with a standard mains plug. Use only approved connectors and extension cables if the mains lead is not long enough.
- If the mains cord becomes damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified person with a cord of the same type and rating to avoid a hazard.
- If for any reason you remove the mains plug, destroy the old plug as it would be dangerous if inserted into a live power outlet. Carefully follow the wiring instructions supplied with the new plug.
- If a fuse is fitted to the plug, remove the fuse before throwing the plug away.
- Never use a fused mains plug without the fuse cover.
- This equipment must be earthed by connecting to a mains power outlet with a protective earthing connection.
Mains plug wiring for the UK
In a re-wirable plug the wires in the mains lead of this television should be connected as follows.
• The wire-coloured brown must be connected to the terminal that is marked with the letter L.
• The wire-coloured blue must be connected to the terminal that is marked with the letter N.
- The wire-coloured green and yellow must be connected to the earth terminal which is marked E or
• You must make sure the lead is firmly secured under the cord clamp.
Mains fuse
This appliance has a UK standard (BS1363) plug with a 3 or 5 amp (BS1362 type) fuse fitted. If you replace the plug or have the power lead assembly replaced or if the fuse cover is lost it must be replaced by an approved plug / lead of the same type and rating.

Safe use and care of your television
We have designed and made this television to meet European safety standards, but as with any electronic equipment you must take care to stay safe and get the best results. Here is some good advice to help you do this...
Read these instructions carefully before you try to use the television.
Protect the mains lead. You must make sure the mains lead cannot be walked on, crushed, chafed or cut.
Avoid harsh conditions such as wet or damp places, high humidity, strong vibration, extremely high or low temperatures, strong sunlight and places that are very dusty.
Never fit makeshift stands or legs to the television.
Never let anyone push objects into holes and ventilation slots.
Important Safety Instructions
Don't continue to use your television if you have spilt liquids in it, if it is damaged in any way or if it does not work normally. Immediately unplug the television and seek expert advice.
Switch off the mains power or pull out the power plug when you leave the television unattended, unless the function of the television requires a continuous power supply.
Protect the screen from fingerprints
To prevent electric shock, do not remove any cover.
If anything goes wrong, don't try and fix it yourself, get a qualified service agent to look at it.
Pull the mains plug out of the wall socket and disconnect the aerial lead during thunderstorms.
The mains plug shall be the main disconnect device and must be readily operable at all times.
Even when the power switch is in the 'off' position some parts remain at dangerous voltage.
If required, this television must be securely attached to the wall in accordance with the installation instructions using a standard 100mm VESA mounting kit to prevent injury.
Ventilation
Place the television on a hard flat surface away from direct sunlight and heat sources. If it is in a cabinet, allow at least a 10cm gap all around. Don't obstruct the ventilation slots, including those underneath, with soft furnishings. Overheating will shorten the life of the television and increase the risk of fire.
Cleaning
Disconnect the mains supply and use only a lightly dampened soft cloth. Do not use chemical solvents or strong detergents as these may damage the cabinet or screen. Never allow water droplets to remain on the screen as moisture can cause permanent discolouration. Greasy marks must only be removed with a commercial cleaner specifically recommended for LCD screens.
Batteries
Remove batteries when the television is not to be used for a long time. Batteries left in equipment may cause damage through deterioration and corrosive leakage, invalidating the guarantee. To protect the environment please use local recycling facilities for battery disposal.
Eye Fatigue
When using this product as a computer monitor, health and safety experts recommend short frequent breaks rather than occasional, longer breaks, for example a 5-10 minute break after an hour of continuous screen work is likely to be better than a 15 minute break every 2 hours.
Do not use the monitor against a bright background and where sunlight or other light sources will shine directly on the screen.

Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type. ATTENTION
This appliance is intended for domestic household use only and should not be used for any other purpose or in any other application, such as for none domestic use or in a commercial environment.
If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.
The ventilation should not be impeded by covering the ventilation openings with items, such as newspapers, table-cloths, curtains, etc.
No naked flame sources, such as lighted candles, should be placed on the apparatus.
The apparatus shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing and that no objects filled with liquids, such as vases, shall be placed on the apparatus.

ATTACHING THE STAND
1) Insert the stand (PART A) into the stand neck (PART B)
2) Use the assembly screws to fasten the stand base securely. Make sure that the screws are securely tightened.

Detaching the Stand
1) Remove the screws highlighted

IMPORTANT - Before drilling any holes in the wall ensure you are not drilling where there could be any electric wires, water or gas pipes.
Wall mounting the TV
This television requires a VESA 400 x 200 wall mount, or equivalent.
1) Remove the four screws highlighted below.
2) The wall mount can now be easily attached to the mounting holes on the rear of the TV. These holes are indicated in the picture below.

For optimum viewing, if wall mounting the TV higher than eye level, the TV should be tilted downwards so that the TV's screen is 'face on'. See fig 1 and 2
Important – If wall mounting this TV, only use the screws already provided in the wall mounting holes. Using other screws which are longer could cause irreparable damage to internal parts.

Securing the TV to a Desk/ TV Stand
Image shown may differ from your TV. The TV must be attached to desk so it cannot be pulled in injury or damaging the product. Use only the screw supplied.

Securing the TV to a Wall
- Position the TV close to the wall to avoid the possibility of it falling when pushed.
- The instructions shown below are a safer way to set up the TV, by fi xing it tothe wall, avoiding the possibility of it falling forwards if pulled. This will prevent the TV from falling forward and causing injury. This will also prevent the TV from damage.
- This method is used if the TV is placed on a glass surface or you do not wish to screw anything into your furniture.
- Ensure that children do not climb or hang onto the TV.
For this type of installation you will need a fastening chord (available free of charge from the helpline)
A) Using one/both of the top wall-mounting holes and screws (the screws are already supplied in the wall mounting holes) fasten one end of the fastening chord/s to the TV.
B) Secure the other end of the fastening chord/s to your wall. (you will need screws/fi xings suitable for your wall type - available separately from most DIY stores)

1) Using the RF cable supplied, connect the TV to the TV Aerial wall socket (Fig A)
2) Connect the power cable to the Electrical outlet (Fig B)
3) Switch on the television using the power on/off switch.
4) Insert the batteries supplied into the Remote control and press the Standby button to power on the TV
5) You will now be welcomed with the initial set-up screen.
If it does not appear, on the remote control, please press [MENU] then 8-8-8-8 and the menu will appear.
Press OK on the remote control and tuning will start.
6) After tuning the following screen will appear.
If you are missing channels, the reason for this is likely to be signal strength, you should consider connecting signal booster and re-tuning the TV.
Tip: If the TV fi nds some, but not all, of the Digital channels, the TV is functioning correctly but the signal being received is not strong enough. (The signal strength needs to be above 85% - you can see the signal strength the TV is receiving when you change channels/ programmes) you will need to increase the signal reception in order to receive all of the channels available. The most economical way to do this is by purchasing and connecting a 'signal booster' in between the TV and the TV aerial socket. If this does not solve the problem, you will need to upgrade the TV aerial to a digital hi-gain compatible aerial

To switch between the different input/ connections.
A) Using the buttons on the remote control:
1) Press [SOURCE/ AV] - The source menu will appear
2) Press [V] or [A] to select the input you require.

Option 1 - via HDMI to HDMI cable
A HDMI cable can output both video and audio and enables you to enjoy digital-quality video and audio with minimal loss of quality.
TVs Input/Source should be set to HDMI.
Option 2 - via Component cable
If you are supplied with a cable from the device which has RED, GREEN, BLUE, RED & WHITE connectors you must connect via Component (for picture) and by phono cable (for sound).

Sound Mode - Choose from the following presets

Auto Volume Level (AVL) - When 'on' is selected, the volume will stay at a constant level regardless of input/source
Digital Output - This is the digital COAX Audio output. Choose from the following options:

To access Audio Description, press the AUDIO button on the remote, use the ▲ ▼ buttons to select MPEG VI L+R. To switch Audio Description off, select MPEG.
TIME MENU
To access this menu, press [MENU] button on the remote control. To enter a menu press [OK]

Clock - Set the date and time
Off Time - Allows you to set a specific time for your TV to turn off
On Time - Allows you to set a specific time for your TV to turn on, the channel it will then display, the source it will be on and also the volume. This function can then be toggled to repeat every day or a certain day.
Time Zone - Change your current time zone
Sleep Timer - Lets you set the sleep timer so the television automatically switches off after a set amount of time. Off -> 10min -> 20min -> 30min -> 60min -> 90min -> 120min -> 180min -> 240min

Schedule List - Lists your programme reminders
PVR File System - Allows you to access recorded programs
CI Information - Pay per view services require a "smartcard" to be inserted into the TV.
If you subscribe to a pay per view service the provider will issue you with a 'CAM' and a "smartcard". The CAM can then be inserted into the COMMON INTERFACE PORT (CI Card In).
System Lock - Allows you to lock or unlock the menu. You will be asked to enter a 4 digit password use the ◀ button to quit the password input. Use the ▶ button to clear. Default password is 0000
Audio Language - Allows you to change audio language
Sub.T Language - Allows you to change subtitle language
SETUP MENU
To access this menu, press [MENU] button on the remote control. To enter a menu press [OK]

Aspect Ratio - Within the UK the picture format varies depending on the channel/broadcast. There are a number of different options to best meet your needs
Auto
Automatically displays the best picture format. So the picture is in the correct position. May have black lines At the top/bottom and/or sides.
Original
Will display the picture from the broadcaster without any change
Zoom

Blue Screen - Changes the background when there is no input between clear and a blue background (Only available on some sources)
Menu Duration - Lets you adjust the amount of time the On Screen Menu stays on the screen before disappearing
Reset to default
Reset Menu System - This resets the menus to factory settings.
Reset TV Channels - This clears all the TV channels from the television.
Software Update (USB) - From time to time we may release new firmware to improve the operation of the television (available to download). This menu lets you install the new software/fi rmware onto the television. Further details of how to do this will be issued with the fi rmware. Contact the helpline or refer to the 'product support' section of the website.

PAL The standard for discs from UK/Europe, most of Asia, Australia etc

TV Type - Choose from the following options
4:3PS Traditional picture format, often used on old fi lm
4:3 LB Traditional picture which has been adapted for widescreen
16:9 Widescreen picture format
Default - This option allows you reset all DVD settings to factory settings.
Dynamic Range - This is the difference between the quietest and loudest sounds. This setting works only with DVD discs recorded in Dolby digital.
Full Set this to listen with the range recorded on the disc
4/8 Set this to listen with a range equivalent to a normal television
2/8 Set this to listen with a smaller difference between the maximum and minimum volume
Dual Mono
Stereo Outputs 2 channels of sound both left and right
Mono L Outputs left side sound
Mono R Outputs right side sound
Mix Mono Outputs a single channel of sound but mix between right and left

Playing a DVD or Video CD
- Press the STANDBY button to make sure the TV is on. The indicator goes green and the screen lights up.
- Press TV/DVD on the remote control to select the DVD mode. DVD appears on the screen.
- Place the disc in the disc slot with the label side facing backwards. "Close" followed by "Loading" appear on-screen as the player takes in the disc.
NOTES
- If the disc is the wrong way round you will probably see a 'no disc message' on screen.
- Most discs automatically present you with a menu to choose what you want the the player to do next.
- Otherwise press play
- The player may display a "barred" symbol if you press a button at a time when that function is not
- allowed by the disc.
DVD
(▲/▼/◄/►/OK) select the title, chapter or menu item then press OK to start. Press D.MENU to return to the menu screen. Some discs do not support menus and start to play automatically.
Notes:

- If parental control is set and the disc isn't fi t for the rating setting you must input the password.

- DVDs may have a region code. Your player does not play discs that have a region code different from your player which is region 2
-
- Unless stated otherwise, all operations described use the remote control. Some features may also be available on the setup menu.
VCD
Use the numeric buttons to select the track you want to view and press MENU to return to the menu screen.
Menu settings and operating procedures may differ. Follow the instructions on each menu screen.
Moving to another CHAPTER/TRACK
When a title on a disc has more than one chapter or a disc has more than one track, you can move to another chapter/track as follows:
• 1. Press◀▶▶ briefly during play to select the next or previous chapter/track.
- 2. To go directly to any chapter/track or title number during DVD playback, input the chapter/track or title number using the numeric buttons 1-9 on the remote control.
- 3. To change TITLE - CHAPTER or select the time duration, use the GOTO button, then select buttons and change settings with the 1-9 buttons on the remote control.
Changing the Audio Channel
Press AUDIO repeatedly until the desired audio mode is selected during play.
Repeat A-B
To repeat a sequence,

- Press AB at the chosen starting point. " " appears on the screen.

- Press AB again at the chosen end point. " " appears on the screen and the repeat sequence begins.
• 3. Press AB again to cancel.
- Press AB again at the chosen end point. " " appears on the screen and the repeat sequence begins.
Repeat
You can play a title/chapter/all/track on a disc repeatedly.
Press REPEAT during play to select a desired repeat mode.
DVD Video Discs – " Repeat chapter / title / all"
CHAPTER: repeats the current chapter.
TITLE: repeats the current title.
ALL: repeats all the tracks on a disc.
Video CDs, discs – " Repeat Track /All"
Track: repeats the current track
All: repeats all the tracks on a disc.
Notes: On a Video CD with PBC (play back control), you must press D.MENU to set PBC to off to use the repeatfunction.
Zoom
For DVD and VCD, you can zoom in and out for video images or pictures.
Press ZOOM to change the size in the following sequence. The square frame appears in the right bottom
of the picture after each press of ZOOM. 2X size ☒ 3X size ☒ 4X size ☒ normal size
Note: Zoom may not work on some DVDs. Reduced size is only available for JPEG discs.
USING THE TELEVISION AS A COMPUTER MONITOR
IMPORTANT – Before connecting the computer to the television you must ensure the computer settings are correct for the television. You MUST do this using your old monitor.
How to set up for Windows XP & Windows Vista (connecting via VGA cable to the TV)
1) Switch on your computer
2) When fi nished booting up right click your mouse anywhere on the screen

4) Left click your mouse on Setting/ Display Settings. Ensure the screen resolution is set to 1366x768 60Hz see the technical specifications section toward the rear of this user guide. To correct the resolution to that of the television move the slider.

3) Left click your mouse on Properties/Personalise

5) Left click your mouse on Advance/Advanced Settings and left click on Monitor

6) Left click on the drop down for Screen refresh rate and select 60 Hertz, if you experience picture noise or 'fl ickering', select 50 hertz or 70 hertz.
7) Click on Apply, then click Yes and the settings will be saved.
8) Now switch off your computer and connect the television (as shown)
9) Switch on the TV, select the input/source to VGA/PC and re-start your PC.
Connecting a Laptop
In addition to the above if you are connecting a laptop to the television you will also need to activate the VGA connection on the laptop. This can vary based on the brand of laptop you have, on many brands/models, it is as per below.
1) Connect the laptop to the television
2) On the Laptop push buttons
The screen will now switch to the television.
PC SETTINGS
To access this menu, press [MENU] button on the remote control. To enter a menu press [OK]
If you wish to make changes to any of the default settings, use the scroll ▲▼▶▲ buttons. To confirm any settings press [OK] button.
To exit this menu at anytime, press [EXIT] button.
Auto Adjust - Lets you automatically confi gure the television to be used as a computer monitor
H Offset - Changes the horizontal position of the picture
V Offset - Changes the vertical position of the picture
Size - increase picture size
Phase - To adjust delay time of phase in order to reduce the noise of picture
Position Reset - Changes back to the original settings
Tip: If the computer is left in-active for a period of time, the television will switch into a 'sleep' state (the screen will power off to save power). To switch back on press the standby button.
7 DAY TV GUIDE / USB RECORD
TV Guide is available in Digital TV mode. It provides information about forthcoming programmes (where supported by the freeview channel). You can view the start and end time of all programmes and on all channels for the next 7 days and set reminders.
1) Press [TV GUIDE]. The following 7 Day TV Guide will appear.

Note: This TV is designed to operate with USB memory sticks up to 32GB. It is possible to use either a USB memory stick or a USB portable Hard Drive of a larger capacity, however, it must be formatted to the FAT32 fi le system in order to operate correctly. At the time of printing this user guide, Windows XP/Vista computers are only capable of formatting up to 32GB, therefore, you will need a software programme/utility to format larger USB drives/hard drives to FAT32. USB RECORD - DIGITAL/FREEVIEW MODE
USB RECORD – DIGITAL/FREEVIEW MODE
Built into this television is a USB record facility. This function is available in Digital/Freeview mode when used in conjunction with a compatible USB memory stick or USB Hard drive. The benefits of this are as follows:
- Pause live TV and then playback, fast forward and rewind (up to live TV)
- One button record, if you decide you want to record the current programme
- Easy programmable recording from the 7 day TV Guide
- Record TV and watch back on your computer/laptop
Due to the nature of the product, it is necessary to use a high speed USB memory stick (as the TV reads from and writes to the memory stick at the same time, some memory sticks may not be suitable)
Minimum Specification - USB Memory Stick
Read Speed 20 MB/s (Mega Byte Per Second)
Write Speed 6 MB/s (Mega Byte Per Second)
If you wish to use a USB portable hard drive larger than 32GB, please refer to the FAQ section at the rear of this user guide.
Pause Live TV (Time Shift)
Pausing Live TV is very simple.
- Press the play/pause button and the television will pause and the live content will be recorded. To resume watching press play/pause again.
- Press fast forward to go forward in a recording (i.e. to skip adverts)
- Press fast rewind to go back in a recording (i.e. if you fast forwarded too far)
Tip: When you switch the TV to standby or change channel the Time Shift memory is wiped. To restart time shift you must press play/pause button.
One Button Record
At any point in time you may decide to record the current channel that you are watching. To do this you need to press the [REC] button.
Tip: This television contains one TV tuner, therefore it can only record the channel you are watching or record one channel while the television is in standby mode.
Note: USB record function is only available in Digital/Freeview TV mode. Due to copyright laws and illegal copying/recording it is not possible to record to/from any other input/output source.
USB MODE / MEDIA PLAYER
USB mode offers playback of various different types of content that you have saved on your USB Memory Stick.

On switching to USB source the above menu screen will appear. The content will be divided into Photo, Music, Movie and Text based on fi le type.
1) You can navigate through the menus using the scroll ▲▼▶◀buttons. To confirm the item you wish to play/view press [OK] button.
2) Select the drive you require. (If your drive only has 1 partition you will only see 1 item).
3) You can now access the item. Press OK to view. 4) While viewing you control the item using
or by pressing (i) and using ▲▼▶◀ and (OK)
OPERATING THE TV WITH A UNIVERSAL OR SKY (BSKYB) REMOTE CONTROL
Using a Universal Remote Control.
You may wish to use a Universal Remote control to operate your Television. In order to do so, you will need to enter the 'code' below into your universal remote control, to do this, please follow the instructions included with the Universal remote control. Please note that if your remote control does not accept the code, this is because the software/fi rmware installed on the remote control is too old. Please contact the manufacturer of the Universal Remote control for assistance.

Using a Sky / Sky+ / Sky HD Remote Control
If you wish to use your Sky remote control to operate your Television, you need to programme a 4 digit code into your Sky, Sky+ or Sky HD remote control.
Please note that the code below will only be accepted if the Sky remote control is a Revision 9 (launched Autumn 2010) or later.
To find out which version of Sky remote you have, remove the battery cover, you should see a sticker showing the 'Rev' number.
If your Sky remote is Rev 8 or earlier, you will need to purchase a new Sky Remote control in order to operate the TV's functions. At the point of manufacturer of this TV, the latest Revision 9 remote controls are only available to purchase directly from Sky, alternatively, you can purchase our versions from the helpline / website.

Our versions (from One for All) are slightly smaller than the regular Sky remotes and operate your Sky box the same way your current Sky remote does, in addition, our versions operate the functions of your television as they include the very latest software/fi rmware.
Please note that as we have to install the necessary software / fi rmware onto the remote control prior to shipping, you must provide us with your TV model number in order that we can do this.
If your Sky remote control is a Revision 9 or later, please follow the instructions below.
1) Switch on the TV set
2) Press the 'TV' button on the Sky Remote
3) Hold down the 'select' and 'red' buttons for 2-3 seconds until the LED blinks twice
4) Press the 'TV' button on the Sky Remote again
5) Enter the 4 digit code (see below)
6) The LED should blink twice, if not recheck the 4 digit code used and go back to step 1
7) Press the 'standby' button on the Sky Remote (The TV should go to standby)
8) Press 'select' to store this setting

DIGITAL SWITCHOVER
Television in the UK is going digital, bringing us all more choice and new services. Starting late 2007 and ending in 2012, television services in the UK will go completely digital, TV region by TV region.
How the switchover affects your TV equipment.
Your new TV has a digital tuner built in, which means it is ready to receive the Freeview signal by simply connecting it into your aerial socket (you can check if you can get digital TV through your aerial now or whether you will have to wait until the switchover at www.digitaluk.co.uk)
When the TV switchover happens in your area, there are at least two occasions when you will need to re-tune your TV in order to continue receiving your existing TV channels and also to pick up new ones. Digital UK, the body leading the digital switchover, will advise you when you need to retune during the switchover.
How to retune.
Retuning your TV is a very quick and simple process. We recommend that you retune every few months to ensure you are receiving the very latest TV and radio channels that are broadcast.
1) On the remote control press [MENU] followed by 8 - 8 - 8 - 8 (so the number 8 button four times)
2) The First Time Installation menu will appear. Press [OK] and tuning will take place.
