Frequently Asked Questions - DR-80C ROLAND

How do I connect the Roland DR-80C microphone?
Connect an XLR cable to the microphone's XLR connector, then plug the other end into a mixer or audio interface's XLR input. Ensure the cable is securely connected.
How can I eliminate howling or feedback?
Howling can be reduced by changing the microphone's orientation, moving it farther away from speakers, or lowering the volume level. Avoid pointing the microphone directly at speakers.
How do I clean the DR-80C microphone?
Wipe the microphone with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a cloth slightly dampened with water and mild detergent. Never use benzine, thinners, alcohol, or solvents as they may damage the finish.
What does the Low-Cut switch do?
The Low-Cut switch cuts frequencies below 80 Hz when set to 'LO CUT' to reduce rumble or low-frequency noise. Set to 'FLAT' for full frequency response.
When should I use the Pad switch?
Use the Pad switch (set to '-10dB') when the audio source is too loud and causes distortion. It attenuates the signal by 10 dB to prevent overload.
How do I mount the microphone on a stand?
Use the included shock-mount holder. If the stand's thread does not match, exchange the supplied screw adapter (5/8"-27 or 3/8"-16) to fit. Ensure the stand's legs are fully opened and stable.
What are the main specifications of the DR-80C?
Type: Condenser. Frequency response: 20–20,000 Hz. Output impedance: 200 Ω. Polar pattern: Cardioid. Sensitivity: -32 dB (0 dB = 1 V/Pa, 1 kHz). Dimensions: 52 × 158 × 21 mm. Weight: 345 g.
What is the polar pattern of this microphone?
The DR-80C has a cardioid polar pattern, which picks up sound primarily from the front while rejecting sound from the sides and rear. Ideal for focusing on a single sound source.
What is the frequency response curve?
The frequency response is typically flat from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, with slight variations. The manual includes a graph; the response is relatively even across the audible spectrum.
What accessories are included with the DR-80C?
The package includes a shock-mount holder, a screw adapter (5/8"-27 and 3/8"-16), and a carrying case for protection during transport.

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • Howling could be produced depending on the location of microphones relative to speakers. This can be remedied by:
  • Changing the orientation of the microphone(s).
  • Relocating microphone(s) at a greater distance from speakers.
  • Lowering volume levels.
  • Protect the unit from strong impact. (Do not drop it!)
  • Do not open or perform any internal modifications on the unit.
  • Never use or store the unit in places that are:
  • Subject to temperature extremes (e.g., direct sunlight in an enclosed vehicle, near a heating duct, on top of heat-generating equipment); or are
    • Damp (e.g., baths, washrooms, on wet floors); or are

- Humid; or are

- Exposed to rain; or are

- Dusty; or are

- Subject to high levels of vibration

  • When using the microphone with the stand recommended by Roland (ST-210 or ST-259), make sure the legs of the tripod are opened wide enough to keep the equipment from falling over. The stand must be carefully placed so it is level and sure to remain stable.
  • For everyday cleaning wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth or one that has been slightly dampened with water. To remove stubborn dirt, use a cloth impregnated with a mild, non-abrasive detergent. Afterwards, be sure to wipe the unit thoroughly with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Never use benzine, thinners, alcohol or solvents of any kind, to avoid the possibility of discoloration and/or deformation.

WARNING

- Keep the included Screw Adapter in a safe place out of children's reach, so there is no chance of them being swallowed accidentally.

FEATURES

• Large diaphragm studio mic (26mm diameter) for high-quality sound
- Low-noise and high-input durability, plus wide dynamic range structure
- Low-Cut Switch for eliminating undesired low frequencies
- Pad Switch for adjusting to high inputs
• Dedicated shock-mount holder included

OPERATION

  1. Connect the XLR connector to the microphone.
  2. Connect the other side of the cable to the input of the unit you use, such as mixer.
  3. If you wish to install the microphone to a microphone stand, use the supplied shock-mount holder. If the shock-mount holder does not fit the stand, try exchanging the screw adapter. (U 5/8, W 3/8)

■ LOW-CUT SWITCH

Cuts lower-range portions of the audio. Cutoff frequency is 80 Hz. Switch to "LO CUT" to cut audio at 80 Hz and lower frequencies. The low end is not cut when this is switched to "FLAT."

PAD SWITCH

Used when the audio is too loud. When this is switched to "-10dB," 10 dB attenuation is obtained.
