Frequently Asked Questions - Marimba Music Hall

How do I connect the Music Hall Marimba speakers to my amplifier?
Ensure the amplifier is switched off. Connect the positive terminal on the speaker (marked +, red) to the positive output terminal of the amplifier, and the negative terminal (marked -, black) to the negative. Incorrect connection can cause poor performance and loss of bass.
What is the recommended placement for the Marimba speakers?
Place them on a firm, level surface, ideally on dedicated stands so the tweeters are at ear level. Position them at least 6 feet apart, with the listening area forming an equilateral triangle. Keep away from walls to reduce bass emphasis, or move closer for more bass.
How long does the break-in period last and what should I expect?
New speakers require about 48 hours of gentle use to settle. Initially, they may sound aggressive or lacking in bass; the sound will improve significantly after this period.
How can I fine-tune the sound of my Marimba speakers?
Removing the grills provides a clearer sound. Moving speakers closer to walls increases bass, while moving them away reduces bass and creates depth. Toe-in the speakers toward the listening position to improve central imaging. Adjusting soft furnishings can tame harshness or dullness.
What are the power handling and amplifier recommendations?
The speakers handle up to 75 watts. The recommended amplifier power range is 20 to 75 watts per channel. Impedance is 6 Ohms nominal.
How do I clean the Music Hall Marimba speakers?
Normally, wipe them with a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use any liquids or abrasive cleaners.
What should I do if liquid or moisture gets into the speakers?
Immediately switch off the amplifier and disconnect the speakers. Take them to an authorized Music Hall service center for inspection. Do not touch with wet hands.
What is the warranty coverage for the Marimba speakers?
Music Hall offers a 2-year warranty covering parts and labor from the date of purchase, provided the speakers were bought from an authorized dealer. The original sales receipt is required as proof.
How should I pack and ship the speakers for warranty service?
Use the original packaging materials. Ship via a reputable carrier, prepaid. Do not use USPS. Insure the unit against loss or damage during transit. Return to the dealer or authorized service center.
What technical specifications are important for pairing with an amplifier?
Key specs: Frequency range 50 Hz – 35 kHz, Sensitivity 87 dB (1W/1m), Impedance 6 Ohms. Ensure your amplifier is stable at 6 Ohms and delivers 20-75 watts per channel for best performance.

1. Take heed of warnings and instructions

Read all the instructions before connecting or operating the loudspeakers. Keep this manual so you can refer to these safety instructions. Heed all warnings and safety information in these instructions and on the loudspeakers.

2. Water and Moisture

To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or damage, do not expose the loudspeakers to moisture or water. If the speakers are exposed to moisture, immediately switch off your amplifier and disconnect them. Take the speakers to an authorized music hall service center for inspection. Do not touch the speakers or connecting wire with wet hands.

3. Heat

Keep the loudspeakers away from naked flames, radiators, heat registers, stoves, or any other heat-producing appliances.

4. Climate

The speakers have been designed for use in moderate climates. Do not attempt to use below 41 degrees Fahrenheit (5 degrees Celsius) or above 110 degrees Fahrenheit (43 degrees Celsius).

Introduction

Thank you for purchasing music hall marimba loudspeakers.

Please read this manual carefully. In addition to installation and operating instructions, it provides valuable information that will help you get optimum performance from your system. Please contact your authorized music hall dealer for answers to your questions. In addition, all of us at music hall welcome your questions and comments. Save the shipping carton and all enclosed

packing material for future use. Shipping or moving the speakers in anything other than the original packing material may result in severe damage that is not covered by the warranty. Be sure to keep the original sales receipt. It is your best record of the date of purchase, which you will need in the event warranty service is required.

Connections

All connections should be made with the amplifier switched off.

There is one pair of terminals on the back of each speaker. Ensure the positive terminal on the speaker (marked + and colored red) is connected to the positive output terminal of the amplifier and the negative (marked – and colored black) to negative. Incorrect connection can result in poor performance and loss of bass.

Placement

Use common sense when placing the loudspeakers. Always place them on a firm, level surface. Mount the speakers on firm dedicated stands that place the tweeters approximately at ear level. When placing the speakers make sure that the shelf or stand can support their weight.

Position the speakers and the center of the listening area approximately at the corners of an equilateral triangle. Keep the speakers at least 6 feet (1.5m) apart to maintain left-right separation.

Ensure the speaker stands are firm on the floor. If you have carpet, use carpet piercing spikes and adjust them to take up any unevenness in the floor.

Running in

Your new speakers require a little gentle use to allow their working components to settle into their proper working condition. Do not be concerned if your new speakers sound aggressive or lacking in bass. The sound will quickly improve after 48 hours of use.

Fine-tuning

Before fine-tuning make sure that all the connections in the installation are correct and secure and that the speaker has been fully run in.

Removing the protective speaker grills will provide a clearer more focused sound. Moving the speakers from the wall will reduce the general level of bass. Space behind the speakers also helps to create an impression of depth. Conversely, moving the speakers closer to the walls will increase the level of bass.

If the bass is uneven with frequency it is usually due to the excitation of resonance modes in the room. Even small changes in the position of the speakers or the listeners can have a profound effect on how these resonances affect the sound. Try mounting the speakers the speakers along a different wall. Even large pieces of furniture can have an effect.

If the central image is poor, try moving the speakers closer together or toeing them in so they point just in front of the listeners.

If the sound is too harsh, increase the amount of soft furnishings in the room. Heavier curtains may help. Or reduce the amount of soft furnishings is the sound is too dull.
