Frequently Asked Questions - Ultraglide FV4026 T-FAL

How to clean the iron's soleplate?
Clean the soleplate with a soft, non-abrasive cloth. Never use a metallic or abrasive pad. If the soleplate is brown, lower the temperature and clean it as instructed in the user guide.
What to do if there are brown stains on laundry?
Brown stains may be due to the use of chemical descaling products or the wrong type of water. Do not add any descaling product. Perform a self-clean and use tap water or a suitable mix (50% tap + 50% demineralized).
Why does my iron produce little or no steam?
This may be due to scale build-up. Clean the anti-scale rod and perform a self-clean regularly.
What water should I use in my iron?
Use tap water. If your water is very hard, mix 50% tap water with 50% store-bought demineralized water. Avoid pure demineralized water, tumble dryer water, scented water, softened water, refrigerator water, battery water, air conditioner water, distilled water, and rainwater.
How to perform the self-clean?
Fill the reservoir with tap water, plug in the iron and set it to maximum temperature. Wait for the indicator light to go out, then unplug the iron. Hold it horizontally over a sink and press the Self Clean button to expel steam and impurities.
Can I use pure demineralized water?
No, pure demineralized water is not recommended as it can cause spitting, brown stains, or premature aging of the appliance. Use tap water or a 50/50 mix with demineralized water if the water is very hard.
What if the iron does not heat up?
Check that your power supply voltage matches the iron (120 V or 127 V). Make sure the iron is properly plugged in and the cord is not damaged. If the problem persists, contact an Authorized Service Center.
My iron's soleplate is scratched, what to do?
Scratches are often caused by contact with metal surfaces (metal iron rest) or by using abrasive pads. To avoid this, always place the iron on its heel and clean the soleplate with a soft cloth. If the soleplate is damaged, it is not covered by warranty unless it is a manufacturing defect.
Why does water leak from the soleplate holes?
This happens if you use the steam function when the iron is not hot enough. Wait for the temperature light to go out before using steam.
How to safely store the iron?
Always unplug the iron after use and let it cool completely (about 1 hour). Wrap the cord around the iron and store it in a dry place away from heat. Never store the iron while it is still hot.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Read all instructions before using the iron.

When using your iron, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:

  1. Use iron only for its intended use.
  2. To protect against a risk of electric shock, do not immerse the iron in water or other liquids.
  3. Always turn the iron OFF before plugging or unplugging the iron from the electrical outlet. Never pull on the cord to disconnect the iron from the electrical outlet; instead, grasp the plug and pull on the plug to disconnect the iron.
  4. Do not allow cord to touch hot surfaces. Let iron cool completely before putting away. Loop cord loosely around iron when storing.
  5. Always disconnect iron from electrical outlet when filling with water or emptying and when not in use.
  6. Do not operate iron with a damaged cord or if the iron has been dropped or damaged. To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble the iron. Contact our Consumer Service Department for examination, repair or adjustment. Incorrect reassembly can cause a risk of electric shock when the iron is used.
  7. Close supervision is necessary for any appliance being used by or near children. Do not leave iron unattended while connected or on an ironing board.
  8. Burns can occur from touching hot metal parts, hot water or steam. Use caution when you turn a steam iron upside down - there may be hot water in the reservoir.
  9. This appliance is only for domestic and personal use.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

  1. To avoid a circuit overload, do not operate another high-wattage appliance on the same circuit.
  2. If an extension cord is absolutely necessary, a 15 amp. cord should be used. Cords rated for less amper may overheat. Care should be taken to arrange the cord so that it cannot be pulled or tripped over.
