Frequently Asked Questions - HD9813SG-STAGE3 Rockford Fosgate

What is the factory radio flash required for 2014+ Harley-Davidson models?
For 2014 and newer Harley-Davidson motorcycles, the factory radio has a 'high fidelity' EQ curve that causes distortion with amplified upgrades. An authorized Rockford Fosgate dealer must 'flash' the radio to remove this EQ. Find a dealer at rockfordfosgate.com/dealerlocator.
Can I use the PMX-HD9813 receiver with a non-Rockford Fosgate amplifier?
Yes, the receiver has RCA outputs. Connect the included RCA harness to the amp's inputs. Set the internal amplifier setting to OFF in the menu when using an external amplifier.
How do I pair my phone via Bluetooth?
Press and hold MENU, select BT DEVICE PAIRING > DISCOVERABLE > ENABLE. On your phone, search for 'Rockford PMX' and select. Ensure phone volume is at maximum to match output levels.
What is the correct amplifier gain setting procedure?
Disconnect speakers. Set source volume to 0, bass/treble flat. Play a 40Hz (mono) or 1kHz (multi-channel) test tone at 0dB. Increase source volume until Input Clip Indicator lights red, then decrease slightly until off. Then adjust Input Level knob until Output Clip Indicator flashes (see manual for color). Reconnect speakers.
How do I install the saddlebag lid speakers?
Remove saddlebag lids, seat, gas tank, and fairing. Tape the lid, attach cutting template, drill holes, cut with jigsaw. Insert grille, mounting ring, and speaker from inside. Secure with screws. Route harness along bike frame. Detailed video at youtube.com/user/rockfordfosgate.
What is the maximum USB capacity supported?
32 GB, with maximum 255 folders and 999 songs. Compatible with MP3, WMA, FLAC formats. USB also charges iOS devices at 1.5A.
How do I reset the receiver to factory defaults?
Press and hold MENU, select FACTORY DEFAULT. Choose AUDIO, SYSTEM, or SiriusXM and select YES to reset those settings individually.
Why is the Bluetooth audio volume too low?
The phone's volume may be set low. Turn your phone volume to maximum after pairing. The receiver stores this level for future connections. If still low, adjust SOURCE GAIN for Bluetooth (+3dB max) in the audio menu.
Can I control Pandora from the receiver?
Yes, after starting Pandora on your phone, select the PANDORA source. Use SUB+ for Thumbs Up and SUB- for Thumbs Down. FWD skips tracks. iOS users can also connect via USB for charging.
What should I do if the amplifier shows no power?
Check the 20A fuse in the receiver and amplifier power connections. Ensure ground is short (<18 inches) and connected to chassis. Verify battery voltage is 10.5-16V. For 2014+ models, the remote turn-on wire from the brake side harness is required.

2014 and Newer Harley-Davidson® Motorcycles

ISSUE:

Factory radios on 2014 and newer Harley-Davidson ^® audio systems use a “high fidelity” EQ curve. This EQ will cause excessive distortion with any amplified audio upgrade and will lead to speaker damage.

SOLUTION:

Authorized Rockford Fosgate Motorcycle Dealers can "flash" your factory radio to remove this EQ.

WHAT TO DO:

Have your nearest Authorized Rockford Fosgate Motorcycle Dealer "flash" your radio. Factory Harley-Davidson® techs can no longer perform this software update. Find a dealer at www.rockfordfosgate.com/dealerlocator. For more info contact Rockford Fosgate tech support at 1-800-669-9899.

The Ground Truth image displays a single, solid horizontal line. According to Rule 2 (UNDERSCORE & LINE RULES), if the GT contains lines used for stylistic emphasis or as background (like ruled paper), the OCR result must ignore them. The line in the GT is clearly a stylistic or background line, not a placeholder for text. Therefore, the OCR should not have output any underscores. Outputting `____` constitutes an error under Rule 2, as it hallucinates placeholder symbols where none are semantically intended. Hence, the OCR result is inconsistent with the Ground Truth.

Applicable Models:

1998 to 2013 Harley-Davidson® Motorcycles with Factory Saddlebags

This saddlebag lid speaker kit is designed to work with Rockford Fosgate's compact chassis Punch® and Power series amplifiers.

Step 1. Remove the saddlebag lids, seat, gas tank and fairing cover from the motorcycle.
Step 2. Using masking tape, tape over the painted portion of your saddlebag lids.

NOTE: This will prevent any scratching of the factory paint during the installation process.

NOTE: Be sure the template sits snug on all sides and corners of the saddlebag lid before securing.

Screw Locations Apply Tape

Step 3. Apply the template to the saddlebag lid and secure using (2) screws that came with the kit.

NOTE: There is a brake and clutch side specific template for each lid. You can use an 1/8" drill bit to predrill holes before screwing the template to the lid. Be sure the template is secured and wont move.

Step 4. Once the template is secured, use a 5/16" drill bit and drill holes in the template.

NOTE: We suggest drilling at every segment to make sawing easier.

Step 5. Using a jigsaw, follow along the template.

NOTE: DO NOT cut the segments of the template until all of the slots have been cut. This will help maintain accuracy and fitment for the grilles.

NOTE: When cutting, be sure that the saw blade stays in between the edges of the template. Cutting into the template will lead to fitment issues.

Step 6. Next you will attach the speaker, grille and mounting ring to the lid using the supplied screws.

NOTE: It is easiest to place the grill into the hole that has been cut into the lid and place upside down on a bench. Then place the appropriate mounting ring onto the grille, along with the speaker. Secure with the supplied screws.
Step 7. Run the main harness up the back bone of the bike and to the amplifier under the fairing.
Step 8. Drill a 3/4" hole on the inside of the bag for the saddlebag harness. Once the hole is drilled, insert through the hole and secure the grommet.
Step 9. Place the adhesive backed plastic cable tie mounting tab to the inside of the bag.

Plug or Connector Cable Clamp

Step 10. Route the wire along the inside of the bag and secure to the plastic cable tie mounting tab with the supplied plastic wire ties.
Step 11. Reattach your saddlebag lid and connect the harness to the speaker.
Step 12. Test system and reassemble the motorcycle.
