Frequently Asked Questions - Joey Kookaburra Cot Koala

What is the recommended mattress size for the Koala Joey Kookaburra Cot?
The cot is designed for a mattress measuring 1320mm long by 700mm wide and no more than 130mm thick. This ensures gaps between the mattress and cot sides do not exceed 40mm when pushed to one side and 20mm when centered.
At what age can my baby start using this cot?
The cot is intended for babies from 3 months old until the child attempts to climb out (typically between 2 and 3.5 years). Always use the lowest mattress position as soon as the baby can sit up.
How do I adjust the mattress base from high to low configuration?
For the high configuration, use the corner spacers and middle spacers to raise the base. For the low configuration, remove the spacers and place the base directly on the support brackets, then secure with retainers and safety bolts. Detailed steps are in the manual.
Can I use any mattress with this cot?
Only use a mattress that meets the specified dimensions (1320x700x≤130mm). The Koala Joey Baby Mattress is recommended (sold separately). Do not use more than one mattress in the cot to prevent suffocation.
How should I clean and maintain the cot?
Spot clean the surface with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaners as they may damage the finish. Avoid placing the cot in direct sunlight, which can cause fading or cracking.
What safety standards does this cot meet?
The cot has been assessed by FURNTECH-AFRDI and complies with AS/NZS 2172:2013 for household cots. It also carries the AFRDI Blue Tick certification and is endorsed by the Infant & Nursery Products Alliance of Australia (INPAA).
What should I do if a part is damaged or missing?
Do not use the cot if any parts are broken, torn, or missing. Contact Koala for approved spare parts only. Using unauthorized parts may compromise safety.
Can I use a pillow, comforter, or extra padding in the cot?
No. Never add a pillow, comforter, or additional padding under the infant. These items increase the risk of suffocation and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Always place baby on their back with feet at the bottom of the cot.
Why must the cot be kept away from windows and cords?
To prevent strangulation and fall hazards. Curtain cords, blind cords, and similar items can entangle a child. Also, keep the cot away from heaters and power points to avoid burns or electrical risks.
What are the Red Nose recommendations for safe sleep?
Red Nose recommends: always place baby on their back to sleep, keep baby's face and head uncovered, maintain a smoke-free environment, use a safe cot in the parents' room for the first 6–12 months, and breastfeed if possible. Follow these to reduce SIDS risk.
