1 Important safeguards

When using any electrical appliance, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:

To ensure familiarity with the controls, safety features, and operation of your heater - Read all instructions before using.

- Do not insert foreign objects through the intake or discharge grilles.

This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.

Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

- Disconnect the cord from the outlet before cleaning. A heater should never be used under conditions where it may be immersed, or come in contact with water. Similarly do not plug in your heater if its surfaces are damp.

Do not use the appliance on the same socket or electric circuit with other electrical appliances so as to prevent the circuit from being overloaded, which will cause fire. Please do not prolong the power cords by yourself or use movable socket.

Unplug heater by grasping plug and pulling it from the outlet. Never yank on cord.

If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by its service agent or a similar qualify person in order to avoid hazard.

Ensure no other appliances are plugged into the same circuit as your heater. A circuit overload could occur resulting in dimmed lights, blown fuses, tripped circuit breakers, or fire hazard.

- The heater is intended for household indoor use only.

The heater must not be located immediately below a socket-outlet.

1 Important safeguards

The heater must only be used in the upright position. Never use when the unit is fallen over.

  • The unit should be far away from the object flammable or easy deform during uses.
    Do not allow smashing the surface with rod or sharp hard tools, as this may cause deform and get rusty because of damage of paint coat.
  • Unit surface temperature of the flanges is high, thus do not touch it except handle, knobs.
    Don't heat wet clothing etc. on the surface of the control chamber, as this may cause undue move of the thermostat.

  • Do not use this heater in small rooms when they are occupied by persons not capable of leaving the room on their own, unless constant supervision is provided.
  • To reduce the risk of fire, keep textiles, curtains, or any other flammable material a minimum distance of 1 m from the air outlet.

  1. Turn the whole machine upside down, remove the pre-installed position screw.
  2. Insert the foot into the slot ensuring it aligns correctly.
  3. Tighten the screw to secure.
  4. Turn the heater back into the upright position. Warning: Only operate the heater with the feet attached to avoid a hazardous situation.

2.3 Instructions for use

1) Set the thermostat fully anti-clockwise to the ⊖ position.
2) Set the switch on the heater to the OFF position.
3) Insert the power plug firmly into the mains point and switch on at the mains.
4) Rotate the thermostat fully clockwise to the ⊕ position.
5) Turn on the heater by settings the switch on the heater to the lower power position or high power position.
6) The power pilot light on the heater will illuminates showing the heater is operational.
7) When your room reaches the desired temperature, slowly rotate the thermostat knob anti-clockwise until you hear a "click". The thermostat can now be left at this setting. As soon as the room temperature has dropped below the set temperature, the unit will switch itself on automatically until the set temperature has been reached again. In this way the room temperature remains constant with the most economical use of electricity.
8) To change the room temperature setting:
Rotate the thermostat knob clockwise to raise the temperature, or counter clockwise to lower it.
9) To completely shut the heater off:
Set the thermostat to ⏻ and the ON/OFF switch to OFF, switch the power off at the mains and remove the mains plug from the outlet.

SAFETY FEATURES

If your Electric Radiator shuts off unexpectedly or fails to operate, one of your heater safety features may have been activated to prevent overheating.

Be sure the heater is plugged in and that the electrical outlet is working.

Check your temperature setting. The heater may simply be off because you have reached your desired temperature setting or your timer setting may have elapsed.

Make sure your heater is assembled correctly. If your heater is assembled and operating incorrectly it could result in a burning odor and smoke.

Check for any obstructions. If you find an obstruction, turn the heater OFF and unplug it.

Allow the heater to cool completely, then remove the obstruction. Re-plug the heater in and follow the OPERATION instructions.

Note: When the machine is used for the first time or it is necessary to re-insert the plug to the socket, please check that the plug and socket fit is good. Check method: Insert the power plug into the socket and start to use the machine. After about half an hour, turn off the machine and remove the plug.

3.2 Safety control

Your heater is fitted with a safety device that switches off the heater by thermal cut-off in the event of overheating or malfunction, It will reset when the appliance cool down. If overheating or malfunctions continue, return the heater to an Approved service agent for examination.

3.3 Cleaning and maintenance

  1. Light accumulated dust may be removed from the heater with a soft cloth. Wipe the exterior surfaces of the heater occasionally with a cloth moistened (not dripping wet) with a solution of mild detergent and water. Dry the case thoroughly with a soft dry cloth before operating the heater.
  2. The fan motor is lubricated by the factory, and will require no further lubrication.
  3. No other user maintenance is required or recommended. If service is required, send your heater to the nearest authorized service depot.
  4. Store heater in a clean and dry place when not in use.

Remember - portable electric heaters are designed for spot heating, or as a supplementary heat source. They are not intended to be main sources of heat during the normal heating season.

Note: There may be trace of smoke or odour when unit is first operated. Do not be alarmed. This indicates that a drop of oil fell on the heating coil during the manufacturing process. It will quickly evaporate, and should not re-occur.

This certificate is issued by DEFY APPLIANCES (PTY) LIMITED manufacturers of Defy and Ocean products, hereinafter the Company, to the original purchaser only, of the appliance described on the certificate and shall constitute the only warranty given in respect of this appliance.

The Company warrants to the original purchaser that for a period of ONE YEAR from date of purchase the appliance is free from defect under normal domestic use, both in workmanship and material, subject to the following conditions.

  1. Carry-in service. Small appliances are repaired in our service centres and are not collected from the customers home. Faulty units must be delivered to the purchasing dealer or to the nearest Company Service Centre for warranty repairs.
  2. Vitreous enamelware, fuses and lamps are specifically excluded from these warranties. It is an express condition of these warranties that the purchaser takes due care and attention in the use and maintenance of the appliance. Abuse, misuse in conflict with operating instructions, connection to incorrect voltages and subjection to commercial use shall release the Company from its obligations.
  3. This warranty shall become void and cease to operate if the appliance is dismantled by, or any repairs to the appliance are effected by any persons not duly authorised by the Company, or if substitute parts not approved by the Company are used in the appliance, or if the serial number of the appliance is removed.
  4. The Company shall not be responsible for damages resulting from fire, flood, civil disturbances or any Act of God. The Company shall not, in terms of these warranties be responsible nor held liable for any consequential loss or damage of any kind caused by or due to the failure or malfunction of the appliance. The Company shall not be responsible for damages caused by insect and/or animal infestation.
  5. The Company shall not be responsible for transportation or other costs other than those incurred within the provisions of Point 1 of this Certificate.
  6. For warranties in the Republic of South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, please contact the customer care line. Please refer to the previous page for respective South African branches and Sub-Saharan Africa branches.
  7. Where service is requested under warranty and no fault or defect can be found by the Company, all costs incurred will be for the purchaser's account.
  8. This Certificate as well as your invoice will serve as proof of purchase. For the purpose of warranty, it will be essential to produce this Certificate and invoice. Failure to do so, will render the purchaser liable for service costs.
