Frequently Asked Questions - REX2 Simplified MFG

What is the maximum distance the REX2 can extend a 1080p signal?
Using CAT6 cable, the REX2 can extend a 1080p signal up to 70m (230ft). With CAT5E, the distance is up to 60m (197ft).
Does the REX2 support 4K resolution?
Yes, the REX2 supports up to 4K@30Hz (4:4:4) and 4K@60Hz with YUV 4:2:0. For 4K30, the maximum distance is 40m (131ft) with CAT6 or 35m (115ft) with CAT5E.
How does the IR pass-through work?
The IR pass-through sends IR signals from the receiver end (display) back to the transmitter end (source). Connect an IR receiver cable to the receiver's IR IN port and an IR blaster cable to the transmitter's IR OUT port. This allows you to control the source device from the display location.
What is the EDID switch for?
The EDID switch on the transmitter selects which display's EDID is used. In the right position, the extender copies the HDMI loop out display's EDID. In the left position, it copies the receiver's remote display's EDID. This ensures proper handshake and resolution matching.
Can I loop out the signal locally?
Yes, the transmitter has an HDMI loop out port. You can connect a local display to monitor the signal while also sending it to the receiver. This also allows cascading to additional extenders if needed.
What power supply is required?
Both units require a 5V/1A DC power supply. Two adapters are included in the package. Power consumption is low: transmitter 1.86W, receiver 0.87W.
Is the REX2 compatible with HDCP 2.2?
No, the REX2 supports HDCP 1.4 only. It is not compatible with HDCP 2.2 sources or displays. For HDCP 2.2, consider the REX4 or other models.
What do the LED indicators mean?
On both units, a solid green LED indicates good cable connection, flashing/off means poor cable. A solid amber LED indicates HDCP handshake (good signal), flashing means no HDCP, off means no signal.
How do I troubleshoot if there is no video?
First, verify all connections (HDMI, CAT, power). Check the LED indicators: ensure the green LED is solid (good cable) and amber LED is solid (HDCP). Try a shorter CAT cable or a known working cable. Move the source and display close together using short HDMI cables to isolate the issue. Also check display settings for HDCP compatibility.
What is the warranty period?
Simplified MFG offers a 3-year parts and labor warranty from the original purchase date. It covers defects in materials or workmanship. The warranty is non-transferable and requires proof of purchase.

Thank you for purchasing the REX2 Extender

The REX2 is a HDMI 1.4b 4K Extender set designed to provide years of reliable service. Please keep this manual as a reference.

The external supply is very robust, but a surge device is always good insurance in electrically active areas where the power grid is unreliable. If connected to satellite or cable boxes, the HDSURGE is recommended to prevent surges through the HDMI cable.

How to use and trouble shoot Simplified MFG Extenders

Up to 120m/194ft @-4K 3.5mm Mini audio breakout and HDMI loop out HDMI HDMI232 to/from RX HDMI232 to/from TX Sound Bus The EXCL from which HDMI 2.0k (380fps) RX HDN AV up to 120m (364P) / 150m (492P) at 500p Only one power supply is needed and either end can be powered The EXCL has an audio breakout of the TX (3 Smart) and RX (Optics/7 Smart) as well as RS232 and 2-Way 12VIR for control Typical Extender use

At the TX end:

Is everything connected (Cat, HDMI, Power etc)?

Is the HDMI cable in the HDMI input of the TX? We often use a loop out, make sure the input is not in this port.

What are the lights where the Cat cable plugs into doing?

Is the Green Lit Solid?

Yes, good! Flashing or off the category cable is poor. This can be the termination (check the manual for wiring termination), poor wire, or interference from being run poorly

Is the Amber Lit Solid?

Yes good! Flashing slowly means no HDCP, off means no signal at HDMI port(s)

At the RX end:

Is the Green Lit Solid?

Yes, good! Flashing or off the category cable is poor. This can be the termination (check the manual for wiring termination), poor wire, or interference from being run poorly

Is the Amber Lit Solid?

Yes good! Flashing slowly means no HDCP, off means no signal at HDMI port(s)

Green LED Cat Cable Indicator Amber LED HDMI Cable Indicator CAT SERVICE IR IN DC 16V

Other Techniques:

Make the circuit simpler. Move the source near the display or the display near the source and see if it works with a short HDMI cable. You can use this to verify the HDMI cables work as well. Add components until the system fails.

Use a known working run of category cable across the floor and see if behavior changes.

It is often the case that the display's setting can cause odd/poor behavior. Consult the display's tech resources. Also, it is possible we have seen the issue and may have a tech paper on this.

Not a bad idea to keep the following on your service vehicle:

• Test source like an AppleTV or signal generator
• Known working HDMI cables
- Known working terminated Category cable
- SP12S splitter for clocking issues, etc.
