How do I charge the vacuum cleaner?

Insert the thin end of the adapter into the charger and plug the adapter into a mains socket. The charging indicator LED will come on. Charging takes 4-6 hours. The appliance cannot be operated during charging.

How long does it take to fully charge the battery?

Full charging takes approximately 4 to 6 hours. When fully charged, all levels of the charging indicator LED will be on.

Can I use the vacuum cleaner while it is charging?

No, the appliance cannot be operated during the charging process. It will automatically stop if placed on the charger while in use.

How do I clean the dust container?

Press the dust container removal button to detach it. Remove the filter and HEPA filter, wash the dust container and filters under running water, then dry thoroughly before reassembling.

How do I clean the HEPA filter?

Remove the dust container, then grasp the handle of the filter holder and turn counterclockwise to remove the HEPA filter. Wash it under running water and allow it to dry completely before replacing.

How do I clean the brush?

Press the brush removal button to detach the brush from the body. Use the roller brush release tab to unlock and remove the roller brush. Clean it, dry it, then reattach and lock the tab.

What should I not vacuum with this appliance?

Do not vacuum water or other liquids, flammable materials, hot ash, cement, plaster, or compressed paper to prevent filter clogging and motor damage.

How do I switch between stick and handheld mode?

Press the cordless vacuum cleaner removal button (located near the handle) to detach the handheld vacuum from the main body. Then use the on/off button on the handheld unit.

What accessories are included?

The vacuum comes with a dust brush for curtains and delicate items, and an upholstery tool for floors, stairs, car interiors, and furniture.

How do I fold the handle for storage?

Turn the handle collapsing button clockwise and fold the handle down. Store the appliance in a vertical position or with the handle folded, out of reach of children.

1 Important safety and environmental instructions

1.1 General safety

• This appliance complies with international safety standards.

- This appliance may be used by children aged 8 years and above and persons whose physical, perceptive or mental skills are impaired or who are inexperienced or not knowledgeable about the appliance as long as they are supervised or informed and made aware of the safe use of the appliance and the encountered dangers. Children should not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance should not be performed by children unless they are supervised by an adult.

- If the power cable or the appliance itself is damaged, do not use it. Contact an authorised service.

- Your mains power supply should comply with the information supplied on the rating plate of the appliance.

- Do not use the appliance with an extension cable.

- Prevent damage to the power cable by not squeezing, bending, or rubbing it on sharp edges.

This product complies with EU WEEE Directive (2012/19/EU). This product bears a classification symbol for waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). 3 Operation

3.1 Intended use

The appliance has been designed for household use and is not suitable for industrial use.

3.2 Installing the body and brush

1. Lift the handle (1) in the arrow direction.

1. Attach the brush (12) to the body (8).

1. Attach the handheld cleaner to the body (8).

3.3 Charging the appliance

1. Insert the thin end of the adapter to the charger and plug the adapter in.

3 Operation

1. The charging indicator LED (15) will come on and the product will start to be charged; when charging is done, all charging indicators will be on.
2. If the charging indicator LED (15) is on, this means that the product is being charged.
3. If all levels of the charging indicator LED (15) is on, this means that the product is fully charged.

It takes up to 4-6 hours for the appliance to be fully charged.

WARNING: Appliance cannot be operated during the charging process.

3.4 Operating the appliance

1. Press the on/off button (2) to switch on the appliance.
2. When you press on/off button (2), appliance will start at maximum speed. Press speed adjustment button (3) to use in low speed. When you press speed adjustment button again, the appliance will run at maximum speed again.
3. After using the appliance, switch it off by pressing the On/off button (2).

Check the power indicator LEDs (15) during operation. As charging level decreases, these indicators will gradually go off and the appliance will stop working when all indicators are off.

Appliance will automatically stop if it is placed on charger while still in use.

3.5 Starting cordless vacuum cleaner

1. Press removal button (5) to remove the vacuum cleaner from the body (8).
2. Press on/off button (7) of the cordless vacuum cleaner to switch on your appliance.
3. After using the appliance, switch it off by pressing the On/off button (7) of the cordless vacuum cleaner.

You can use your accessories by inserting them to the end of your vacuum cleaner.

Dust brush

Suitable for cleaning the curtains, and sensitive and fragile objects.

Upholstery tool

Suitable for cleaning the floorings, stair steps, inside of the cars, sofas, armchairs etc.

4 Cleaning and care

Switch off and unplug the appliance before cleaning it.

WARNING: Never use gasoline, solvent, abrasive cleaning agents, metal objects or hard brushes to clean the appliance.

4.1 Cleaning the dust container

It is recommended to clean the dust container after every use.

1. Press the dust container removal button (9) to remove the dust container (10).
2. Pull the filter by holding the handle and remove it from dust container (10).

1. Remove the HEPA filter by grasping the handle of the filter holder and turning counterclockwise.

1. Wash out the dust container (10), filter holder and HEPA filter under the running water.

2. Clean the body of the cordless vacuum cleaner (14) with a soft damp cloth.

3. Replace the HEPA filter in its holder after all parts are dried and place filter holder in the dust container (10).

1. Replace the dust container (10) in the body of cordless vacuum cleaner (14).

4.2 Cleaning the brush

1. Press the brush removal button (11) and remove the brush (12) from the body (8).

2. To clean the brush (12), release the lock using the roller brush release tab as shown below.

4.3 Storage

• If you do not intend to use the appliance for a long time, store it carefully.
• Unplug the appliance.
• Store the appliance in a vertical position or with its handle folded.
• In order to fold the handle, turn the folding button (4) clockwise and fold the handle (1).
• Keep the appliance out of the reach of children.

4.4 Handling and transportation

• During handling and transportation, carry the appliance in its original packaging. The packaging of the appliance protects it against physical damages.
• Do not place heavy loads on the appliance or on the packaging. The appliance may get damaged.
• Dropping the appliance may render it non-operational or cause permanent damage.

This certificate is issued by DEFY APPLIANCES (PTY) LIMITED manufacturers of Defy and Ocean products, hereinafter the Company, to the original purchaser only, of the appliance described on the certificate and shall constitute the only warranty given in respect of this appliance.

The Company warrants to the original purchaser that for a period of TWO YEARS from date of purchase the appliance is free from defect under normal domestic use, both in workmanship and material, subject to the following conditions.

1. Carry-in service. Small appliances are repaired in our service centres and are not collected from the customers home. Faulty units must be delivered to the purchasing dealer or to the nearest Company Service Centre for warranty repairs.
2. Vitreous enamelware, fuses and lamps are specifically excluded from these warranties. It is an express condition of these warranties that the purchaser takes due care and attention in the use and maintenance of the appliance. Abuse, misuse in conflict with operating instructions, connection to incorrect voltages and subjection to commercial use shall release the Company from its obligations.
3. This warranty shall become void and cease to operate if the appliance is dismantled by, or any repairs to the appliance are effected by any persons not duly authorised by the Company, or if substitute parts not approved by the Company are used in the appliance, or if the serial number of the appliance is removed.
4. The Company shall not be responsible for damages resulting from fire, flood, civil disturbances or any Act of God. The Company shall not, in terms of these warranties be responsible nor held liable for any consequential loss or damage of any kind caused by or due to the failure or malfunction of the appliance. The Company shall not be responsible for damages caused by insect and/or animal infestation.
5. The Company shall not be responsible for transportation or other costs other than those incurred within the provisions of Point 1 of this Certificate.
6. For warranties in the Republic of South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, please contact your nearest Defy office. Please refer to the previous page for respective South African branches and Sub-Saharan Africa branches.
7. Where service is requested under warranty and no fault or defect can be found by the Company, all costs incurred will be for the purchaser's account.
8. This Certificate as well as your invoice will serve as proof of purchase. For the purpose of warranty, it will be essential to produce this Certificate and invoice. Failure to do so, will render the purchaser liable for service costs.
