Frequently Asked Questions - Microcomputer RK1068 TEFAL

How do I use the delayed start (PRESET) function?
Press MENU to select the desired function (Quick, Expert, Congee, Porridge, Soup, or Steam). Then press PRESET; the screen will show the minimum preset time. Use the + or - buttons (or other adjustment method) to set the desired delay (up to 15 hours). Finally, press START. The rice cooker will start cooking so that it finishes exactly when the preset time ends.
How do I clean the micro pressure valve?
First, remove the micro pressure valve from the lid. Rotate it in the direction of 'open' to separate the two parts. Wash both parts with hot water and mild detergent, then dry thoroughly. Align the two triangles on the parts, press together, and rotate in the 'close' direction until you hear a click. Reinstall it onto the lid.
What does it mean when the display shows 'b'?
The 'b' on the display indicates that cooking is complete and the rice cooker has switched to Keep Warm mode. It is time to open the lid and serve the food. The rice cooker will also beep several times.
Can I cook soup in this rice cooker?
Yes, there is a dedicated Soup function. Press MENU until the Soup indicator light turns on, then press START. The default cooking time is 3 hours, but you can use the PRESET function to delay start (4 to 15 hours). The timer will count down from 60 minutes after two hours of stewing.
What is the maximum amount of rice I can cook?
The maximum capacity is 10 cups of uncooked white rice (using the included measuring cup). The water level should not exceed the 10 cup mark inside the bowl. For other types of rice, refer to the cooking guide in the manual.
How do I remove and clean the condensation collector?
Press on each side of the plastic cover and pull it out. Empty any collected water and wash with hot water and mild detergent. Dry it thoroughly before sliding it back into the groove until it clicks into place.
Can I use metal utensils in the bowl?
No, do not use metal utensils as they may damage the non-stick ceramic coating. Use only plastic or wooden spoons provided or similar utensils to stir and serve.
Why is my rice half-cooked or taking too long?
This is usually due to incorrect water-to-rice ratio. Refer to the cooking guide for the exact water level corresponding to the number of cups of rice. Also, ensure the bowl is properly placed on the hotplate and the micro pressure valve is correctly installed. If the problem persists, contact an authorized service center.
Is the bowl dishwasher safe?
The manual recommends hand washing the bowl with hot water, washing-up liquid, and a sponge. Scouring powders and metal sponges are not advised. To preserve the ceramic coating, avoid harsh detergents and abrasive cleaning.
How do I cancel a cooking process?
Press the KEEP WARM/CANCEL key (labeled 'CANCEL' in some contexts) to cancel any ongoing operation or setting. The appliance will return to standby mode.

RICE COOKING

Measuring the ingredients - Max capacity of the bowl

  • The graduated markings on the inside of the bowl are given in liters and cups, these are used for measuring the amount of water when cooking rice – Fig.7.
  • The plastic cup provided with your appliance is for measuring rice and the table states the quantity of rice required for the number of servings. 1 level measuring cup of rice weighs about 150 g.
The table below gives a guide to cooking different kinds of rice. For best results, we recommend using ordinary rice rather than 'easy cook' type of rice which tends to give a stickier rice and may adhere to the base. With other types of rice, such as brown or wild rice, the quantities of water need adjustment check the table below.

2

  • To cook 1 cup of white rice (serves 2 small or 1 large portion), use 1 measuring cup of white rice and then add 1 1/2 measuring cup of water. With some types of rice it is normal for a little rice to stick on the base when cooking 1 cup of rice. To cook other quantity of white rice, refer to cooking guide below.
  • The maximum quantity of water + rice should not exceed the 5,5 or 10 cup mark inside the bowl – Fig.7. Depending on the type of rice, quantities of water may need adjustment. See the table below.
Rinse the rice thoroughly before cooking.
