Frequently Asked Questions - RocketBox 16 Yakima

How much weight can the Yakima RocketBox 16 hold?
The maximum load capacity is 165 lb (75 kg), including the weight of the box itself. Always distribute weight evenly and secure items.
Will the RocketBox 16 fit my car's crossbars?
It fits most factory and aftermarket crossbars up to 3.1 inches (80 mm) wide. The included SnapLock brackets adjust to fit round, square, and aerodynamic bars.
How do I install the RocketBox 16?
Place the box on your crossbars, align the clamps, close and lock the lid, then tighten the knobs from inside. Refer to the manual for detailed steps. Always double-check lock engagement before driving.
Can I open the box from both sides?
Yes, the dual-sided opening allows access from either side of the vehicle, making loading and unloading convenient.
How do I clean and maintain the roof box?
Wash with mild soap and water using a soft sponge. Avoid abrasive cleaners or high-pressure washers. Periodically lubricate locks with graphite powder.
What do the keys lock?
The key locks both the lid and the mounting brackets, preventing theft of the box and its contents. Keep a spare key in a safe place.
Does the RocketBox 16 affect fuel economy?
Like any roof box, it reduces aerodynamics. Yakima's tapered design minimizes drag. Expect a 5-10% drop in MPG at highway speeds; remove when not in use.
Is the box waterproof?
The lid seal provides weather-resistant protection. However, it is not fully submersible. For heavy rain, ensure the drain holes (if present) are clear.
Can I order replacement parts?
Yes, Yakima sells replacement locks, keys, mounting hardware, and the shell. Contact Yakima customer service or visit their website.
What warranty does the RocketBox 16 come with?
Yakima offers a limited lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Register your product after purchase.
