Frequently Asked Questions - HT118 WHIRLPOOL

How do I turn on the Whirlpool HT118 heater?
Plug the heater directly into a wall outlet. Press the POWER button on the control panel or the ON button on the remote control (if provided). Then set the desired heat level using the LOW or HIGH setting.
What is the recommended clearance around the heater?
Keep all combustible materials such as furniture, pillows, bedding, and curtains at least 3 ft (0.9 m) from the front, sides, and rear of the heater.
Can I use an extension cord with this heater?
No. Always plug the heater directly into a wall outlet. Using an extension cord or power strip can cause overheating and fire. The cord may also become a tripping hazard.
How do I clean the heater?
Turn off and unplug the heater. Allow it to cool completely. Wipe the external surface with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use water or cleaning agents. Clean at least once a month.
Why does my heater turn off unexpectedly?
The heater may shut off if the room temperature reaches the set temperature, or if the overheat protection activates. Check that the thermostat is set higher than the current room temperature and that the air intake and exhaust are not blocked. Also ensure the outlet is working.
Is the heater safe to use in a bathroom?
No. The manual states: Do not use this heater in bathrooms, laundry areas, or near water. It is not intended for use in the immediate surroundings of a bath, shower, or swimming pool.

What does the Temperature Control Knob do?
The knob allows you to set the desired room temperature from 50°F (10°C) to 85°F (29°C). Turn it to Continuous Heat if you want the heater to run without automatic shut-off based on room temperature.
Can the heater be used on a bed or soft surface?
No. The manual warns: Do not use on soft surfaces like a bed where openings may become blocked. Always place on a firm, level, open surface.
What should I do if the cord or plug gets hot?
Check that the plug fits tightly in the outlet. If the plug or outlet is hot, discontinue use and have the outlet replaced by a qualified electrician. The heater draws high current and can cause outlet overheating.
