Frequently Asked Questions - KA CH 4 KALORIK

How do I operate the Kalorik KA CH 4 heater?
Use the power/flame/heat switch to select off, flame effect only, or flame with low/medium/high heat. The thermostatic control dial adjusts temperature, and the flame adjusting dial varies the flame intensity.
Can I use the flame effect without heating?
Yes, set the power switch to the flame effect only position (middle setting). The flame effect operates independently of the heating elements.
How do I replace the light bulbs in the fireplace?
Unplug the unit, remove the glass front by unscrewing the two screws on the control panel, lift the glass, then pull out the log ember bed. Unscrew the old bulbs anticlockwise and replace with identical bulbs, then reassemble in reverse order.
Why does the heater emit a smell when first used?
A slight, harmless odour may occur during initial use due to the heating of internal elements. This is normal and will not happen again.
What safety precautions should I take?
Keep a minimum 1 meter distance from walls and combustibles. Do not cover the heater. Unplug before cleaning or maintenance. Do not use near water or with wet hands. Supervise children.
How does the thermostatic control work?
Turn the dial clockwise to the highest setting. When the room reaches the desired temperature, turn it anticlockwise to lower or switch off the heating elements. The heater will automatically maintain the set temperature.
Can I use the heater in a bathroom?
No, do not operate near baths, showers, washbasins, swimming pools, or any water container. The controls must not be reachable when in contact with water.
How do I clean the appliance?
Wipe the housing with a slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Vacuum the air outlet openings to remove dust. Always unplug before cleaning.
What should I do if the heater does not turn on?
Check that the power cord is plugged into a working outlet and that the mains voltage matches the rating plate. Ensure the power switch is not in the off position. If it still doesn't work, contact a qualified service.
Is the Kalorik KA CH 4 energy efficient?
The flame effect uses only two small lights and a low-power motor, making it energy-saving. The heater has an economiser function that operates on medium and high heat settings to optimize energy use.

OPERATION

  • The fireplace can be used without the heater function, which means you can appreciate the marvellous fire effect throughout the year.
  • As the effect is produced by two small lights and a very weak engine, it is energy saving. You can set the fire intensity depending on the room dimensions.
  • Warm air comes into the room through the protecting grid below the small iron grid on the front bottom of the appliance.

The controls are located in the upper part of the frame of the fireplace as indicated above.

Power/flame/heater switch: controls the power of the entire unit. Use it to switch the appliance on or off and to switch on the flame effect and/or heating feature. This switch has the following positions:

Note: When first used, the heater may release a slight, harmless odour. This odour is a normal occurrence caused by the initial heating of the internal heating elements and will not occur again.

Thermostatic control dial / economiser switch:

  • This dial adjusts the heater temperature and automatically shuts the heater off once the desired temperature is achieved.
  • When you chose middle heat or high heat (in low heat position energy saving does not operate), this sensible heat output controller will automatically open or close the heating element in order to keep selected heat.
  • First turn the thermostat/economiser switch clockwise to the highest setting.
  • When the room temperature reaches the requested level, turn the switch anticlockwise to lower the heat and switch off the heating elements.
  • Note: In medium and high position the lower heating element will stay on to keep the necessary room temperature.

Flame adjusting dial:

  • You can enjoy the fire effect even if the heater has been switched off, as long as the power switch is not in 0 position.
    • The fire adjusting dial enables you to set the fire and light intensity.
  • When in the minimum position, the fire effect and the light have a weak intensity.
  • To get a higher heat, turn the switch clockwise.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

Warning: The unit must be unplugged from the power supply prior to any maintenance or cleaning in order to reduce the risk electric shock or fire.

A. Light bulb replacement procedure

Like all light bulbs, bulbs require periodic replacement. When the bulbs in your unit have burned out you will notice one or more of the following:

• The flame is dim or dark in certain areas
- The log set ember bed appears dim or dark in certain areas

Your unit must be opened in order to replace the light bulbs. To reduce the number of times you need to open the unit, replace all the lights bulbs at the same time if they are close to the end of their rated life.

Warnings:

  • The light bulbs in your unit can become extremely hot. Allow at least 10 minutes between turning off the unit and removing the light bulbs to avoid the accidental burning of the skin.
    • Always make sure to replace the bulbs by a bulb with exactly the same features.

Replacing bulbs (see figures page 3)

Below the log ember bed there are two light bulbs. To replace them, proceed as follows:

  • Unscrew the two screws situated at the left and right end of the metallic plate of the control panel (fig. 1).
  • Lightly press the middle part of the glass; lift the glass toward the front and up until it comes out of the lower slot (fig. 2, step 1) then move it away (fig 2, step 2).
  • When the glass is removed, remove the log ember bed by pulling at it (fig. 3).
  • You now have access to the bulbs (fig. 4). Unscrew them anticlockwise and replace them by identical bulbs.
    • Once this is done, reassemble the appliance by proceeding the other way around.

B. General cleaning instructions

  • The housing may be wiped with a slightly damp, lint-fee cloth.; do not use any abrasive scouring pad or steel wool.
  • Do not use detergents or cleaning products.
  • If necessary, dust particles accumulated in the air outlet openings may be removed with a vacuum cleaner.
