Frequently Asked Questions - EFX Mono Amplifier Scosche

Why is my amplifier not turning on (no power light)?
Check that the +12V input terminal has at least 11.5 volts using a voltmeter. Also check the REM (remote turn-on) terminal for 12 volts when the car stereo is on. Ensure the main fuse at the battery is intact and connections are secure.
The amplifier powers on (green LED) but there is no sound.
Verify that the RCA or high-level input cables are properly connected and not damaged. Check speaker output connections at the amplifier and speakers. Ensure the input gain control is not set to minimum. Also verify that the speakers have the correct impedance (e.g., 2 or 4 ohms per channel for stereo mode).
How do I set the gain (level) control correctly?
Turn the car stereo volume to about 3/4 of its maximum. Then slowly turn the amplifier's level control clockwise from the 'Min' position until the sound is just above your normal listening level or until you hear distortion. If there is hiss between songs, the gain is too high and should be reduced.
What is the proper way to ground the amplifier?
Connect the GND terminal to a clean, unpainted metal point on the vehicle chassis, preferably using a star washer to ensure a solid connection. The ground cable should be as short as possible (no more than 3 feet). Avoid grounding to painted or rusty surfaces.
How do I connect multiple amplifiers (strap/slave mode) on the 1000c1?
Set the first amplifier to 'Master' and the second to 'Slave'. Connect the Master's audio output to the Slave's audio input. Then connect a jumper wire (8 AWG or larger) between the negative speaker terminals of both amplifiers. Use the Master's positive terminal to the subwoofer positive and the Slave's positive terminal to the subwoofer negative. All adjustments will be controlled by the Master.
My amplifier goes into protection mode (red LED) during loud passages. What should I do?
Check the input gain setting; it may be too high. Verify that the battery voltage is above 11.5V DC at the amplifier with the engine off. Inspect all ground connections. Ensure the speaker impedance is not too low (e.g., below 2 ohms in stereo mode or below 4 ohms bridged). Also check for shorted speaker wires.
How do I use the high-level (speaker level) inputs?
Use the provided high input harness. Connect the left and right speaker outputs from the car stereo to the corresponding wires: Gray (Left +), Brown (Left -), Green (Right -), White (Right +), Black (Ground). This is useful when the stereo lacks RCA outputs.
What is the purpose of the bass boost control?
The bass boost adds 0 to +12 dB of boost at 45 Hz. Use it sparingly to avoid distortion or speaker damage. Start at the minimum setting and increase gradually while listening to music.
How do I use the remote level control?
Plug the included remote level control cable into the 'REM' port on the amplifier. This allows you to adjust the amplifier's volume from the driver's seat, independent of the stereo's volume.
The amplifier operates but gets very hot. What can I do?
Ensure the amplifier is mounted in a location with free air circulation and not covered by carpet or other materials. Check that the input gain is not set too high. Verify the speaker impedance is correct. Also check for increased current draw due to a possible short or incorrect wiring.

Location/Mounting Amplifier

Select a safe/dry location to mount your Amplifier. Double check location and placement of your amplifier before making any connections or drilling any holes. Never mount your Amplifier in the engine compartment, or cover it with carpet or any other fabric materials that will cause the Amplifier not to get the proper ventilation. Avoid drilling through electrical wires, fuel lines, or other obstructions that may be around your mounting area. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our tech support team at 1-800-621-3695 Ext. 3

IMPORTANT/ PRELIMINARY

WARNING: MAKE SURE YOU CHECK TWICE. DRILLING THROUGH ANY ELECTRICAL WIRES, FUEL LINES OR ANY OTHER VEHICLE SYSTEMS MAY CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH.

ROUTING CABLES AND WIRES

Determine the safest place to run wires through firewall. If it is necessary to drill holes be sure area is free of any obstructions on either side. Always use a grommet to protect wire.

Be sure to route all wires and cables away from parts that may move or become hot. Excessive heat will damage the amplifier and wiring. Route power wires away from signal (RCA) cables. If power wires and signal cables need to intersect cross at a 90% angle. Route RCA cables away from wires that may carry high current.
