Frequently Asked Questions - SME 211 Extron

How do I configure the SME 211 for streaming to Twitch?
Open the WebUI, navigate to Configuration > Encoding & Settings, then set resolution, framerate, bitrate, and rate control. Under RTMP settings, enter the server URL from Twitch and your stream key. Enable the RTMP encode and Main Stream Control.
What are the recommended encoding settings for Twitch?
Use 1920x1080 resolution, 6000 kbps video bitrate, CBR rate control, and a framerate of 30, 50, or 60 fps. Advanced settings include GOP 30, IDR 2, entropy CAVLC, profile Main, and framing IP.
How do I find the RTMP server URL for Twitch?
Visit https://stream.twitch.tv/ingests/. Twitch will suggest the best ingestor based on your location. Copy the server URL (e.g., rtmp://atl.contrib.live-video.net/app/{stream_key}) and paste it into the SME WebUI Server URL field after removing the stream key placeholder.
Where is the stream key located in Twitch?
Log in to your Twitch account, go to Settings > Stream. Under Primary Stream Key, click Copy. Then paste it into the SME WebUI Server Stream Key field.
What is the maximum resolution supported by the SME 211?
The SME 211 supports a maximum resolution of 1920x1080 (1080p).
Can I stream at 60 frames per second?
Yes, the SME 211 supports framerates of 30, 50, and 60 fps. Choose the appropriate setting in the encoder.
What is the purpose of the GOP size setting?
GOP (Group of Pictures) size determines how often a keyframe (I-frame) is inserted. A GOP of 30 means a keyframe every 30 frames, which balances compression efficiency and stream responsiveness.
How do I enable the Main Stream Control?
After configuring the encoder and RTMP settings, toggle the Main Stream Control to enable it. This starts the streaming output.
Do I need a Twitch account to use the SME 211?
Yes, streaming to Twitch requires an active Twitch account. The stream key is obtained from your Twitch dashboard.
What is the difference between CBR and VBR rate control?
CBR (Constant Bitrate) maintains a steady bitrate, ideal for live streaming to ensure consistent quality. VBR (Variable Bitrate) allows bitrate to vary, potentially improving quality but may cause fluctuations. The SME 211 supports both.
