Frequently Asked Questions - SC-20 DAP-Audio

How do I connect the DAP SC-20 to my computer?
Use the included USB A to USB B cable to connect the USB port on your PC or laptop to the USB B connector on the back of the SC-20. The device is plug-and-play: your computer will automatically install the necessary drivers. The green power LED will turn on.
Can I use the SC-20 without installing drivers?
Yes, the SC-20 is class-compliant and works with macOS and Windows without additional driver installation. Just connect it via USB and select it as your audio device in your software.
What is the ground lift switch for?
The two Lift/Ground switches on the back (one per XLR output) help eliminate hum and buzz caused by ground loops. Set them to LIFT to disconnect pin 1 (ground) of the XLR connector, or to GROUND to keep it connected. Choose the setting that gives the best sound quality.
Why is there no sound coming from my speakers?
Check all connections: ensure the USB cable is securely connected, the XLR cables are properly plugged into the outputs and your speakers, and that headphones (if used) are connected to the correct jack. Also verify that the output volume control is turned up and that your computer audio settings are set to the SC-20.
Can I use the SC-20 with a smartphone or tablet?
The SC-20 is designed for computers with a standard USB A port. It may not work with smartphones or tablets unless they support USB audio class and you have an appropriate adapter (e.g., USB OTG). However, this is not officially supported and may cause compatibility issues.
How do I adjust the headphone and output volume?
On the front panel, turn the PHONES LEVEL knob to adjust headphone volume, and the OUTPUT LEVEL knob to adjust the volume of the XLR line outputs. Turn left to decrease, right to increase.
What is the maximum cable length for connecting speakers?
The manual does not specify a maximum cable length, but for balanced XLR connections, standard cables up to 100 meters (328 feet) are typically usable without signal degradation. For best performance, use high-quality balanced cables.
Is the SC-20 suitable for professional recording or live sound?
Yes, the SC-20 is a 2-channel USB audio interface with low-noise preamps, making it suitable for studio recording, podcasting, and live sound applications. It provides clean audio output for connecting to mixers, powered speakers, or monitoring systems.
How should I clean the SC-20?
Always switch off the device before cleaning. Use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe the surface. Do not immerse in liquid, and avoid using alcohol or solvents, as they may damage the finish.
What should I do if the device is not recognized by my computer?
Try the following: 1) Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable. 2) Try a different USB port on your computer. 3) Restart your computer. 4) Test with another USB cable. If the problem persists, contact Highlite International dealer for further support.
