Frequently Asked Questions - DS-X2U3-Glanz Fantec

What types of drives are compatible with the Fantec DS-X2U3-Glanz?
The docking station supports SATA I/II/III hard drives and SSDs in both 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch sizes.
How do I clone a drive using the DS-X2U3-Glanz?
Insert the source drive into the front slot HDD A and the destination drive into the rear slot HDD B. Ensure the destination drive has equal or larger capacity. Connect the power adapter (do NOT connect USB), turn on the device, then press and hold the clone button for 5 seconds. The LEDs will indicate progress.
Can I use the device as a regular USB docking station?
Yes. Connect the USB cable to your computer, insert drives, and they will appear as external storage. The device can operate two drives simultaneously.
My new drive is not recognized by the computer. What should I do?
New drives need to be initialized, partitioned, and formatted. For Windows, go to Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc) and initialize the disk (MBR for under 2TB, GPT for over 2TB). For Mac, use Disk Utility to erase and format.
What do the LED indicators mean during cloning?
The four top LEDs show progress: at 25% the first LED stays on, at 50% the second, at 75% the third, and at 100% all four stay on. The HDD A, HDD B, and Power LEDs remain lit during the process.
Does the destination drive need to be empty before cloning?
No, but all existing data on the destination drive will be permanently overwritten when cloning starts. Back up important data beforehand.
Is the DS-X2U3-Glanz compatible with USB 2.0?
Yes, the USB 3.0 interface is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1, though transfer speeds will be limited to the slower standard.
Can I clone an SSD to a larger HDD?
Yes, as long as the destination drive has equal or greater capacity than the source. After cloning, the extra space can be partitioned.
Why is cloning not starting when I press the button?
Ensure the USB cable is not connected during cloning. Also check that the source drive is in HDD A (front) and destination in HDD B (rear), and that the power switch is on.
How do I clean the dock?
Use a dry, soft cloth to wipe the surface. Avoid liquids or abrasive cleaners to prevent damage to the glossy finish.
