Frequently Asked Questions - FKS-185L2 Ferm

How do I change the blade on the Ferm FKS-185L2?
First, unplug the saw. Rotate the SDS blade clamp on the front of the tool (usually a lever or ring) to release the blade. Insert the new blade with teeth facing forward. Release the clamp and ensure the blade is locked securely.
What is the orbital action and how do I adjust it?
Orbital action moves the blade in an elliptical path for faster cutting. There are 4 settings (0 to 3). Use the selector lever on the side of the tool: 0 for straight cuts, 1–3 for increasingly aggressive orbital motion. Adjust only when the tool is off.
What is the maximum cutting depth in wood?
At a 90° angle, the maximum cutting depth in wood is 80 mm. At 45°, it is 50 mm. For steel, the maximum is 10 mm.
Can I connect a vacuum cleaner for dust extraction?
Yes, the jigsaw has a 36 mm dust extraction port at the rear. Connect a standard vacuum hose or adapter. For best results, set the vacuum to a low suction setting to avoid affecting the saw's performance.
How do I adjust the bevel for angled cuts?
Unplug the tool. Loosen the bevel adjustment knob (usually under the base plate). Tilt the base plate to the desired angle (0° to 45° left or right). Retighten the knob. A scale shows the angle.
What type of blades does the FKS-185L2 use?
It uses T‑shank blades (universal fit). Blade length should match the material thickness. For wood use coarse‑tooth blades, for metal use fine‑tooth blades. The included blades are suitable for general wood and metal.
Why doesn't the saw start?
Check that the lock‑off button is depressed before squeezing the trigger. Ensure the power cord is plugged in and the outlet works. If the motor overload protection has tripped, let it cool for a few minutes and try again.
How should I maintain the jigsaw?
Keep the ventilation slots clean. Lubricate the guide roller with a drop of light oil occasionally. Wipe the blade clamp clean. Store in a dry place. Regularly check the power cord for damage.
Can I use this jigsaw for curved cuts?
Yes, the jigsaw is ideal for curved cuts. For tight curves, reduce the orbital action to 0 or 1 and use a narrow blade. Guide the saw gently; do not force it.
What safety precautions should I take?
Always wear safety glasses and hearing protection. Secure the workpiece firmly. Keep hands away from the blade. Use the lock‑off switch to prevent accidental start. Disconnect power before blade changes or adjustments.
