Frequently Asked Questions - CKF3154V Elvita

How do I adjust the temperature on my Elvita CKF3154V refrigerator?
Turn the temperature regulator knob (located at the top of the refrigerator compartment) clockwise. Setting 0 turns the appliance off, setting 1 is the warmest, and setting 7 is the coldest. For normal use, select setting 3 or 4. If the ambient temperature is high, avoid setting 6 or 7 as the compressor may run continuously.
What should I do if the refrigerator is not cooling properly?
Check if the appliance is switched on and plugged in. Ensure the temperature is set correctly (see question 1). If the door was left open or a large quantity of warm food was added, the temperature may temporarily rise. Also verify that the condenser at the back is dust-free and there is adequate ventilation (75 mm rear clearance, 100 mm top/sides). If the problem persists, contact a qualified service engineer.
Can I reverse the door opening direction?
Yes, the door is reversible from right to left. You will need an 8 mm socket driver, cross-head screwdriver, and a putty knife. Follow the detailed instructions in the manual. Important: Unplug the appliance before starting. Lay the refrigerator on its back on soft packaging to avoid damage. Remove door shelves and transfer hinges as described.
How do I defrost the freezer compartment?
The freezer must be defrosted manually. First, remove all food and set the temperature regulator to 0 (off). Leave the door open until ice melts completely. You can place a bowl of warm water (approx. 50°C) inside to speed up the process. Do not use sharp tools or direct heat (hair dryer) as they can damage the interior. Wipe up water with a soft cloth and reset the regulator to its original position.
What type of light bulb does the refrigerator use and how do I replace it?
The interior uses an LED light bulb (220-240 V). To replace it, switch off the appliance and unplug it. Press the center of the bulb, remove the cover with a #1 screwdriver, replace the bulb, and refit the cover. Only a qualified electrician should perform this if the bulb is damaged.
Why does the refrigerator make clicking or humming noises?
These sounds are normal:
Clicks when the compressor switches on/off.
Humming when the compressor is running.
Bubbling or splashing from refrigerant flow. If the noises are unusually loud, check if the appliance is level or touching walls/objects. Adjust the feet or move the appliance slightly.
How often should I clean the refrigerator and what cleaning products can I use?
Clean the interior and accessories at least every two months. Use lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Avoid abrasive powders, organic solvents, essential oils, or steam cleaners – they can damage plastic parts. Wipe the condenser at the back once a year with a soft brush or vacuum. After cleaning, rinse with fresh water and dry thoroughly before plugging in.
What should I do if the water drain hole is blocked?
A blocked drain hole can cause water to pool on shelves or floor. Clean it using a soft object like a cotton swab or soft broom bristle. Do not use sharp items that could damage the cabinet. Ensure the drain hole on the rear wall of the refrigerator compartment is clear.
Can I store flammable substances like aerosol cans in the refrigerator?
No. Do not store explosive substances such as aerosol cans with flammable propellant in this appliance. The refrigerant (R600a) is also flammable. If the refrigerant circuit is damaged, avoid open flames, ventilate the room, and contact a professional.
What is the maximum freezing capacity per day?
The maximum amount of fresh food that can be frozen in 24 hours is specified on the rating plate inside the appliance. During the freezing process (24 hours), do not add other food to be frozen. For optimal performance, freeze only top-quality, clean food in small portions.

Control panel

Starting up and temperature regulation

  • Insert the plug on the power cord into an earthed power socket. When the refrigerator compartment door is opened, the internal lighting is switched on.
  • The temperature selector knob is located on the top of the refrigerator compartment.

Setting 0 means:

Off.

Turn the knob clockwise to turn on the appliance.

Setting 1 means:

Highest temperature, warmest setting.

Setting 7 (end-stop) means:

Lowest temperature, coldest setting.

Normally we advise that you select setting 3 or 4. If you want the temperature to be warmer or colder please turn the knob to a lower or higher setting accordingly.

Important! High ambient temperatures (e.g. on hot summer days) and a cold setting (position 6 or 7) may cause the compressor to run continuously!

Reason: when the ambient temperature is high, the compressor has to run continuously to maintain a low temperature in the appliance.

Helpful hints and tips

Noises from the appliance

The sounds listed below are perfectly normal for refrigeration appliances:

Clicks Whenever the compressor switches on or off, a click can be heard.

Humming As soon as the compressor is in operation, you can hear it humming.

Bubbling When refrigerant flows into thin tubes, you can hear bubbling or splashing noises.

Splashing Even after the compressor has been switched off, this noise can be heard for a short time.

Energy saving tips

Do not install the appliance near cookers, radiators or other sources of heat.

Do not open the door too often or leave the door open any longer than necessary.

Do not set the temperature colder than necessary.

Make sure there is clearance between the sides and rear of the appliance and the wall; follow the relevant installation instructions.

The illustration shows the recommended configuration of the drawers, crisper and shelves. Changing this configuration will lead to increased energy use.

Hints for fresh food refrigeration

To obtain the best performances:

Do not store warm foods or evaporating liquids in the appliance.

Do cover or wrap the food, particularly if it has a strong flavour.

Position food so that air can circulate freely around.

Hints for refrigeration

Meat (all types): wrap in polythene bags and place on the glass shelf above the vegetable drawer. For safety, only store meat in this way for one or two days at the most.

Cooked foods, cold dishes, etc.: these should be covered and may be placed on any shelf.

Fruit and vegetables: these should be thoroughly cleaned and placed in the special drawer(s) provided.

Butter and cheese: these should be placed in aluminum foil or polythene bags to exclude as much air as possible.

Milk bottles: these should have a cap and should be stored in the bottle rack on the door

Hints for freezing

To help you make the most of the freezing process there are some important hints:

The maximum quantity of food which can be frozen in 24 hours is shown on the rating plate.

The freezing process takes 24 hours. Do not add more food to be frozen during this period.

Only freeze top-quality, fresh and thoroughly cleaned foodstuffs.

Prepare food in small portions so that it can be rapidly and completely frozen and so that you only need to thaw the quantity required.

Wrap up the food in aluminum foil or polythene and make sure that packages are airtight;

Do not allow fresh, unfrozen food to touch food which is already frozen, to avoid raising the temperature of the latter.

Lean foods store better and longer than fatty ones; salt reduces the storage life of food.

If ice lollies or popsicles are eaten immediately after removal from the freezer compartment they may cause freezer burns to the skin.

It is advisable to mark the date of freezing on each individual pack so that you can keep track of the storage time.

Hints for storage of frozen food

To obtain the best performance from this appliance, you should:

Make sure that commercially frozen foodstuffs are stored according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

Be sure that frozen foodstuffs are transferred from the food store to the freezer in the shortest possible time.

Do not open the door frequently or leave it open longer than absolutely necessary.

Once defrosted, foods deteriorate rapidly and can not be re-frozen.

Do not exceed the storage period indicated by the food manufacture.

Cleaning and care

Cleaning and care

For hygienic reasons the appliance interior, including interior accessories, should be cleaned regularly. The fridge should be cleaned and maintained at least every two months.

Elvita CKF3154V - Cleaning and care - 1

Warning! Danger of electrical shock!

The appliance should not be plugged in during cleaning. Before cleaning, switch off the appliance and unplug it from the power socket, or switch off or remove the circuit breaker or fuse.

Important!

Remove the food from the appliance before cleaning. Store it in a cool place, well covered.

Never clean the appliance with a steam cleaner. Moisture could accumulate in electrical components,

Hot vapours can damage plastic parts. Essential oils and organic solvents can attack plastic parts,

e.g. lemon juice or the juice from orange peel, butyric acid, cleanser that contains acetic acid. Do not allow such substances to come into contact with appliance parts.

Do not use any abrasive cleansers.

Clean the appliance and the interior accessories with a cloth and lukewarm water. Commercially available dish washing detergents may also be used.

After cleaning, wipe with fresh water and a clean dish cloth.

Dust that settles on the condenser increases energy consumption. Clean the condenser at the back of the appliance once a year with a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner.

Check the water drain hole on the rear wall of the refrigerator compartment.

If the drain hole is blocked, clean it with the aid of something like a soft peg, taking care not to damage the cabinet with sharp items.

After everything is dry, reconnect and turn on the appliance.

Defrosting

Why defrost?

Water contained in food or from the air inside the fridge may form a frost layer inside. If this becomes thick it will impair refrigeration. If it is more than 10mm thick, you should defrost.

Defrosting of fresh food storage compartment

This is automatically controlled by switching the temperature regulator on or off, so there is no need to defrost it manually. Water from defrosting will drain into a drip tray through a drain pipe at the back of the fridge automatically.

Defrosting of frozen-food storage compartment

The freezer compartment must be defrosted manually. Before defrosting, take the food out.

Take the ice tray and drawers out or put them into the fresh food compartment temporarily.

Set the temperature regulator knob to position "0" (to turn off the compressor) and leave the door of the refrigerator open until ice and frost melt completely and gather at the bottom of the freezer chamber. Wipe off the water with a soft cloth.

To speed up the defrosting process you can put a bowl of warm water (about 50°C) into the

freezer chamber, and scrape away the ice and frost with a defrosting spatula. After doing so, be sure to set the temperature regulator knob to the original position.

It is not advisable to heat the freezer chamber directly with hot water or a hair dryer while defrosting, to avoid deforming the inner case.

It is also not advisable to use sharp tools or the like to scrape off ice and frost or to separate food that is frozen together or frozen to the container, as this could damage the

inner casing or the surface of the evaporator.

Warning! Switching off the appliance before defrosting and turn the temperature regulator to position "0".

Important! The fridge should be defrosted at least once a month. If the door is opened frequently or if the appliance is used in very humid conditions, we advise the user to defrost every two weeks.

If the appliance is not used for a long time

Remove all refrigerated packages. Switch off the appliance by turning the temperature regulator to position "0".

Unplug the appliance or switch off or disconnect the electricity supply.

Clean thoroughly (see section: Cleaning and Care)

Leave the door open to avoid the build up of odours.

What to do if...

Warning! Before troubleshooting, unplug the appliance. Only a qualified electrician or competent person may carry out troubleshooting that is not covered by this manual.
