About coffee
The coffee aroma depends on the grinding quality. In general, the faster the coffee is brewed, the more finely ground it should be. Therefore, espresso is more finely ground than filter coffee.
Too finely ground coffee intended for an espresso maker gives a bitter taste to the coffee brewed in a filter. And vice versa, a coarse ground coffee used in an espresso machine gives a coffee with no taste. If you use the grind that suits your coffee maker and increase the amount of ground coffee, you get a stronger coffee without a bitter taste.
Before use
Clean the removable parts as described in “Cleaning and maintenance” before use.
Use of the appliance
- Place the appliance on a flat, stable surface.
- Put the ground coffee container (9) with its lid (8) in place and make sure they are directly below the dispenser.
- Remove lid (1) on the coffee bean hopper (2) and pour in coffee beans (up to 300 g/33 cups of coffee). Replace the lid and check that it is on correctly.
- Set the grind during the grinding process when the grinder is running. Select the grind by turning the knob (6) to the desired setting 1-15. Setting 1-6 provides very finely ground coffee (espresso), setting 6-8 (pour over brewing), setting 8-12 (filter brewing) and setting 12-15 provides more coarsely ground coffee (boiled coffee and cold brewing). The grind should be changed from fine to coarse during the grinding process.
- Plug the appliance in. The signal lights turn on dimly (M shines brightly).
- Set the desired grinding time by turning the knob (5) to the desired setting depending on how much ground coffee you want (the corresponding indicator light comes on):
M = manual start/stop, 5 minutes max
Setting 2 = 10 seconds
Setting 3 = 20 seconds
Setting 4 = 30 seconds
Setting 5 = 40 seconds
Setting 6 = 50 seconds
NOTE! Never run the grinder empty. Always ensure that there are enough coffee beans in the hopper before starting the appliance.
- Press the Start/Stop button (4) to start the appliance. The indicator lamp flashes during the grinding process.
- When the set time has passed the unit stops automatically.
- If you want to interrupt the grinding process sooner, press the Start/Stop button. If the grinding has been running continuously for five minutes, the appliance needs to cool down for 30 minutes before a new grinding cycle is begun. It is recommended to grind for a maximum of 90 seconds at a time, and then let the appliance cool down for 90 seconds before the next grinding cycle.
- After completion of the grinding cycle, tap lightly on the ground coffee container to get the remaining coffee down from the dispenser and the sides of the container. Then pull out the ground coffee container and immediately pour the ground coffee in the coffee maker's filter using a measuring cup.
- Always unplug the appliance after use.
Advice for grind selection
- Using the knob (6), you can set the grind depending on the brewing method and your personal taste.
- On first use, we recommend that you experiment to identify the grind suitable for the brewing method you will use.
NOTE!
For the appliance to work, check that it is properly assembled: that the grinding unit and the bean hopper are properly installed.
Practical advice
Keep the coffee beans in a hermetically sealed container in the refrigerator. The coffee can also be stored in the coffee bean hopper. To preserve the coffee's aroma, we recommend that you grind it just before use.
This appliance is equipped with overheating protection. If the appliance overheats, it automatically turns off. If so, let it cool down for 30 minutes.
Cleaning and maintenance
• Always unplug the appliance and let it cool down before cleaning.
- Never immerse the appliance's motor unit, cord or plug in water or any other liquid.
- Do not use harsh cleansers or steel wool to clean the appliance.
- Remove the bean hopper by pressing the release button (3) on the back of the motor unit while turning the hopper so that the arrow points to the symbol for the open padlock. Then pull out the ground coffee container and twist off the lid. The containers and their lids are to be washed by hand.
- Remove the grinding unit (11) by lifting the handle (12) and turning it counterclockwise. Then lift it from the base and rinse it under warm water and wipe it dry. Then clean the grinder (13) with the supplied brush. You can also vacuum the grinding unit and grinder to clean them thoroughly.
- When the grinding unit is completely dry, put it back in the appliance by lowering it down and using the handle to turn it clockwise until it stops.
- Clean the ground coffee dispenser (10) and the appliance's motor unit (7) with a damp cloth or the supplied brush.
