How do I use the OBH Nordica Spirit 6411 kettle?

Use

The kettle consists of two parts: the kettle itself and a separate, live base, on which the kettle can be placed from any angle. Only use the kettle with the corresponding base. If necessary, wind up a part of the cord under the base and make sure that the cord is as short as possible in order that children cannot grab hold of it. Plug the switch to a wall outlet.

Press the button on top of the handle to open the lid of the kettle. Pour water in the kettle, see the markings on the outer level indicator and close the lid. Do not exceed the maximum marking (1.5 liters) and do not pour water less than the minimum marking (0.75 liter) and do not pour water when the kettle is positioned on the base. Position the kettle with water on the base and switch on the appliance on the switch under the handle. The water from the first two boilings should not be used, as there may be impurities from the production of the kettle. Note that the housing of the kettle gets very hot during use.

NOTE! The kettle comprises a hinged, lockable safety lid that reduces scalding hazards considerably, as the lid cannot fall off, should the kettle tip over. Remember always to close the lid properly after filling of water.

WARNING! If there is too much water in the kettle (i.e. water exceeds the MAX marking) boiling water may splash out. The maximum level of the kettle is 1.5 liters and should not be exceeded. Never switch on the kettle without water.

The kettle automatically switches off when the water is boiling. Every time the kettle is removed from the base, the kettle switches off. In this way, unintended heating is avoided when the kettle is put back on the base. If the kettle is shortly removed from the base in order e.g. to add water, remember to switch it on again. Always unplug from the mains supply when the appliance is not in use.

IMPORTANT: Make sure that the lid is always properly closed, when the kettle is in use. If not, the automatic switch-off function will not work and there is furthermore a risk that boiling water will splash out. The automatic switch-off function of the kettle is very sensitive. If the switching off becomes irregular (the kettle switches off too soon or too late), the kettle needs to be descaled and this might be the reason (see the section about descaling below).

Scale build-up/dry boiling protection

The kettle comprises a double protection system:

If the kettle has severe scale build-up at the bottom, if it is switched on without water or boils dry, the dry boiling protection system is activated and the kettle switches off automatically. In such case, check for lime in the bottom of the kettle and descale if necessary. Try to switch the kettle on again with water in it.

If the kettle continues to switch off before the water reaches the point of boiling, contact the shop of purchase.

Lime filter

The kettle has a lime filter in the spout. Remove the filter for cleaning by opening the lid of the kettle and carefully lifting the filter. Brush the filter with a washing-up brush under running water or put the filter in a descaler for a couple of minutes, when the kettle is being descaled. Put the filter back in the grooves inside the spout and make sure that it is positioned correctly.

It is very important that the filter is cleaned and does not scale again, as if not, water cannot pass through the filter, but will run off along the sides, which involves a risk of burning.

Descaling and cleaning

• The kettle needs regular descaling.
- Do not boil more water than you need. This will save energy due to a shorter boiling time and you will be sure that the kettle is emptied each time, which reduces the building-up of limestone.
- Check at regular intervals whether the kettle needs descaling. In case of a heavy build-up of limestone, use a decalcification product, citric acid or similar that you can buy in the store (do not use household vinegar). It is important to follow the instructions on the package, and remember to bring the kettle to a boil a couple of times subsequently and to pour out the water.
- Repeat the descaling procedure if necessary and descale the appliance more often, if necessary.
- The descaling procedure will be more efficient if you heat the liquid up to about 50-60°C.

Important! Never use sharp items to remove limestone, as these may damage the appliance. If the appliance is not descaled at regular intervals, the appliance may become unusable. Such damage is not covered by the warranty.

The housing of the kettle can be cleaned with a damp cloth and wiped dry. Do not use scouring or etching detergents. Neither the appliance nor the base is dishwasher-proof.

Disposal of the appliance

Legislation requires that all electrical and electronic equipment shall be collected for reuse and recycling. Electrical and electronic equipment marked with the symbol indicating separate collection of such equipment must be returned to a municipal waste collection point.

Warranty

Warranty according to current law. Any claim shall be accompanied by the cash receipt with purchase date. When raising a claim the appliance must be returned to the store of purchase.
