How do I set the timer to turn on at a specific time?

Rotate the timer dial until the current time aligns with the arrow. Then push the pins outwards (towards the outer rim) for the hours you want the heater ON. Push pins inwards (towards inner rim) for hours OFF. Set the inner contact to '0' to activate the timer.

What should I do if the heater overheats and shuts off?

Unplug the heater and allow it to cool completely. Check that the turbo fan grille is not blocked by dust or dirt. Clean if necessary before restarting. The overheat protection will reset automatically after cooling.

How do I clean my Melissa oil-filled radiator?

Unplug and let it cool completely. Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth; a mild detergent can be used if heavily soiled. Never submerge in water or use abrasive cleaners. Ensure it is fully dry before use.

Can I use an extension cord with the heater?

It is recommended to plug directly into a wall socket. If an extension cord is necessary, use a heavy-duty cord rated for at least 13 amps and fully extend it. Ensure the cord does not pose a tripping hazard.

Why does the heater not heat up even though it is switched on?

Check that the thermostat is set to a temperature higher than the room temperature. Also ensure the power button(s) are lit. If only the turbo fan is on (400W), the heating ribs may not activate. Verify that the overheat protection has not tripped.

How do I replace the fuse in the plug?

This product uses a BS 1363 13-amp plug. Replace the fuse with an ASTA or BSI approved BS1362 13-amp fuse. If a fuse cover is fitted, refit it after replacement. If the cover is missing, do not use the plug.

Is it safe to leave the heater unattended?

No, the appliance must be kept under constant supervision while in use. Do not use a timer or similar device to switch it on when unattended. Always turn off and unplug when not in use.

How much power does the turbo fan add?

To get the best out of your new appliance, please read this user guide carefully before using it for the first time. Take particular note of the safety precautions. We also recommend that you keep the instructions for future reference, so that you can remind yourself of the functions of your appliance.

IMPORTANT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

General

• Incorrect use of this appliance may cause personal injury and damage.
• Use for its intended purpose only. The manufacturer is not responsible for any injury or damage resulting from incorrect use or handling (see also Guarantee Terms).
• For domestic use only. Not for outdoor or commercial use.
  • For connection to 230 V, 50 Hz only.
• Check appliance is intact when unpacking first time. There should be no visible damage.
• Never submerge the appliance in water and make sure no water enters the appliance.
• Never touch the appliance, cord or plug with wet or damp hands.
• Keep the appliance under constant supervision while in use. Children must always be supervised when the appliance is in use.

• The appliance is not to be used by persons with reduced sensitivity, physical or mental disabilities or persons who are unable to use the appliance, unless supervised or instructed by a person responsible for their safety.

• The appliance is filled with a precisely measured quantity of special oil. Repairs involving opening the appliance must only be performed by an authorised repairer. Always contact an authorised repairer if the appliance is leaking oil.

• Always comply with local regulations concerning the disposal of oil when scrapping the appliance.

Positioning the appliance

• Always place the appliance on a level, dry, stable and heat-resistant surface.
• Never place the appliance on surfaces which can be damaged by heat.
• Always place the appliance at a safe distance from flammable objects such as curtains, carpets or similar.
• There must be a clearance of at least 90 cm from the sides and above the appliance to ensure sufficient ventilation.
• Never place objects on the appliance.
• Never cover the appliance during use or unless it is completely cooled off.
• If covering the appliance with a rug or the like for long-term storage, disconnect from the mains and wait until it is completely cool.

Use

• Do not move the appliance during use.
• Use the handle if moving the appliance just after use. Do not touch the heating fins, as they can get very hot during use and take a long time to cool off.
• Do not connect the appliance to a timer or the like. It must always be kept under supervision when in use. Similarly, do not set the integrated timer to switch on the appliance when it is not under supervision.

Cord and plug

• Keep the cord and appliance away from heat sources, hot objects and naked flames.
• Do not use with other cords than that supplied.
• Check that it is not possible to pull or trip over the cord or any extension cord.
• Switch off the appliance and remove the plug from the socket when cleaning or when not in use. Avoid pulling the cord when removing the plug from the socket. Instead, hold the plug.
• Ensure that the cord is fully extended.
• The cord must not be twisted or wound around the appliance.
• Check regularly that neither cord nor plug is damaged and do not use if they are or if the appliance has been dropped in water or damaged in any other way.

- If the appliance, cord or plug has been damaged, have the appliance inspected and if necessary repaired by an authorised repairer. Never try to repair the appliance yourself. Please contact the store where you bought the appliance for repairs under the guarantee. Unauthorised repairs or modifications to the appliance will invalidate the guarantee.

PRIOR TO FIRST USE

• Remove all packaging and transport materials from the inside and outside of the appliance.
• Check that the appliance has no visible damage and that no parts are missing.

Fitting the wheels

• Turn appliance upside down.
- Lay one of the two metal bars with wheels fitted (5) across the outer heating ribs (4) at the end of the appliance.

• Insert one end of the U-shaped shackle through the hole in the bar, place the shackle around the pipe at the bottom of the appliance, and insert its other end into the second hole in the bar (see illustration).
• Secure the shackle using the wing nuts supplied and tighten securely.
• Repeat this procedure with the other metal bar at the other end of the appliance.
• Place the appliance on its wheels and check that it can be moved around without problem.

USING THE APPLIANCE

Assembly before use:

• Place the appliance in the room to be heated.
  o Position it in a place where it will not get in the way of doors etc.
  o Observe the guidelines under Important Safety Precautions.

- Plug in and switch on the power.

Use

• Check that the thermostat (2) is in the lowest position.
• Switch on the on/off button (1).

o If button 1 lights, the appliance will run at 600 W.

o If button II lights, the appliance will run at 900 W.

o If both buttons light, the appliance will run at 1,500 W.

o The turbo fan (7) has an output of 400 W.

- Turn the thermostat to the temperature setting required. The heating ribs will activate and deactivate automatically to maintain the temperature set.

• If the appliance gets too hot during use, the overheating protection will activate automatically. Remove plug from the mains socket, and allow the appliance to cool down before using again.
• Check that the turbo fan grille is not blocked by dust or dirt, and clean if necessary before restarting the appliance.
• Do not move the appliance during use.

Using the turbo fan

The turbo fan can be activated by pressing the contact (8). When activated, the turbo fan heats the room faster. Switch off by pressing the contact once more.

Using the timer

• Set the timer (9) by turning the dial until the actual timer is aligned with the arrow.
• There are a number of pins around the inside of the timer.

o Push the pins OUTWARDS TOWARDS THE OUTER RIM of the timer to switch the appliance on at the appropriate time.
o Push the pins INWARDS TOWARDS THE INNER RIM of the timer to switch the appliance off at the appropriate time.

- The timer is active when the contact in the inner part of the timer is at the "0" position, and switched off when it is at "I".

Example:

If the time is 23.00, turn the dial until "23" is aligned with the arrow (A on the illustration). If the appliance is to be set to come on between 8.00 and 15.00, all pins between 8 and 15 (B on the illustration) must be pushed outwards towards the outer rim of the timer.

All the other pins must be pushed in towards the inner rim of the timer. Set the contact to "0" to activate the timer.

TIP

Always check the clock setting for the timer before use. If power to the appliance is switched off for an extended period, the timer clock will probably have to be set again before use.

After use

• Always turn off the appliance using the on/off button, and unplug it, when you are finished with it.
  o Please note: The heating ribs are filled with oil and take a long time to cool after use.
• Use the handle (3) if moving the appliance just after use. Do not touch the heating ribs.

STORAGE

• Ensure the appliance is completely cool before storage.
• Store the appliance in a clean and dry place.
• Do not place heavy objects on top of the appliance.
• The cord must not be twisted or wound around the appliance. Use the cord storage instead (6).

CLEANING

When cleaning the appliance, you should pay attention to the following:

• Remove the plug from the mains socket, and allow the appliance to cool down completely before cleaning it.
• Never submerge the appliance in water and make sure no water enters the appliance.
• Clean the appliance by wiping it with a damp cloth. A little detergent can be added if the appliance is heavily soiled.
• Check that the turbo fan grille is not blocked by dust or dirt and clean if required.
• Do not use scouring pads, steel wool or any form of strong solvents or abrasive cleaning agents to clean the appliance, as they can damage the external surfaces of the appliance.
• IMPORTANT! Allow to dry completely after cleaning. Do not use the appliance if it is damp.
• Always clean the appliance before putting it away if it is not to be used for a prolonged period.

Plug wiring:

This product is fitted with a BS 1363 13-amp plug. If you have to replace the fuse, only those that are ASTA or BSI approved to BS1362 and with a rated current of 13 amps should be used. If there is a fuse cover fitted, this cover must be refitted after changing the fuse.

If the fuse cover is lost or damaged, the plug must not be used. You must also check if the socket outlets in your home fit with the plug of the appliance. If the socket outlet in your home does not fit with the plug, the plug must be removed and disposed of safely as insertion of the plug into the socket is likely to cause electric hazard. A replacement plug should be wired according to following description.

This appliance must be earthed. The wires in the cord set are coloured thus:

As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this appliance may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows:

The wire that is coloured Green& Yellow must be connected to the terminal in the plug that is marked

The wire that is coloured blue must be connected to the terminal that is marked with the letter N or coloured black.

The wire that is couloured brown must be connected to the terminal that is marked with the letter L or coloured red.
