Frequently Asked Questions - UNiTE-2 Kurzweil

How do I connect the Kurzweil UNiTE-2 to my computer?
Connect the UNiTE-2 to an available USB 2.0 port on your computer using the included USB cable. The device is bus-powered, so no separate power supply is needed. Windows and macOS will automatically detect the device.
Do I need to install drivers for macOS?
No, macOS supports the UNiTE-2 as a class-compliant USB audio device via CoreAudio. You can optionally install the control panel application from the Kurzweil website for additional settings.
How do I enable phantom power (+48V) for my condenser microphone?
Press the +48V ON switch on the front panel. The switch enables phantom power for both microphone inputs simultaneously. Ensure your microphone is connected via XLR cable before enabling phantom power.
What is the purpose of the HI-Z ON switch?
The HI-Z ON switch (on Input 1) activates the high-impedance instrument input for connecting electric guitars or basses. When pressed, the input is optimized for Hi-Z signals. When not pressed, it works as a standard line/mic input.
How do I adjust the buffer/latency settings on Windows?
Open the UNiTE-2 Control Panel by double-clicking the Kurzweil icon in the taskbar notification area. Go to Config > Latency and choose a buffer size from 32 to 1024 samples. Lower values reduce latency but require more CPU performance.
Can I use the UNiTE-2 with an iPad or other mobile devices?
The manual does not specify iPad compatibility. However, since it is a class-compliant USB device, it may work with iOS devices using a Camera Connection Kit (USB adapter), but this is not officially supported.
How do I set the sample rate on macOS?
Open the UNiTE-2 Panel from your Applications folder. In the SAMPLERATE section, select the desired sample rate (e.g., 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 96 kHz). Alternatively, use the Audio MIDI Setup utility in macOS.
What does the MONITOR switch do?
The MONITOR switch controls real-time input monitoring. OFF: no direct monitoring (use software monitoring). MONO: both inputs are mixed to mono and heard on both outputs. STEREO: left input to left output, right input to right output.
Why is the PEAK LED lighting up?
The PEAK LED indicates that the input signal is clipping (too loud). Reduce the input gain using the corresponding GAIN knob until the LED turns off or only flashes occasionally.
How do I clean the UNiTE-2?
Unplug the device before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use liquids, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, as they may damage the surface or internal components.

This chapter describes the UNiTE-2 Control Panel under Windows.

To open the control panel double click on the KURZWEIL icon in the task notification area. The following dialog will appear:

UNITE-2 v1.0 File Config KURZWEIL INPUT OUTPUT 0dB MUTE 0dB MUTE

The panel has the following functions and sections:

INPUT section: This section controls the input monitoring volume of the incoming signal from the hardware. A pair of mono faders can be controlled together or individually depending on your mouse position – perfect for stereo signals. The MUTE button below this section allows you to mute the input signal. An orange button indicates that the mute function is enabled. When disabled, the button is gray.

OUTPUT section: This section controls the playback volume of the playback signal from your audio applications. The pair of mono faders can be controlled together or individually depending on your mouse position – perfect for stereo signals. The MUTE button below this section allows you to mute the output signal. An orange button indicates that the mute function is enabled. When disabled, the button is gray.

4.1 Latency settings

Via Config > Latency in the Control Panel it is possible to change the latency setting (also called "buffer size") for the driver of UNiTE-2:

UNiTE-2 v1.0 File Config Mouse Wheel > Sample Rate > Latency > Buffer Number > Always on Top 32 Samples 64 Samples 128 Samples ✓ 256 Samples 512 Samples 1024 Samples 0dB 0dB MUTE MUTE

A smaller latency is the result of a smaller buffer size and value. Depending on the typical application (e.g. for playback of software synthesizers) a smaller latency is an advantage. At the same time, the best latency setting indirectly depends on the performance of your system. For recording applications, a typical latency buffer size between 128 and 512 samples is standard, a value displayed typically inside your audio application. Note that the latency has to be setup before launching the audio application using UNiTE-2.

5. Control Panel under macOS

This chapter describes the UNiTE-2 Control Panel under macOS.

After the installation, the panel can be found in your Applications folder. You can launch it in the Finder via Go>Applications > UNiTE-2 Panel. The following dialog appears:

UNITE-2 KURZWEIL INPUT OUTPUT 1AMPLERATE 96000 Hz 48000 Hz +4100 Hz +0.0 MUTE +0.0 MUTE LINK

The panel has the following functions and sections:

INPUT section: This section controls the input monitoring volume of the incoming signal from the hardware. The pair of mono faders can be controlled together when the LINK function is enabled (perfect for stereo signals) or individually when it is disabled. The MUTE button below this section allows you to mute the input signal. An orange button indicates that the mute function is enabled. When disabled, the button is gray.
