Frequently Asked Questions - Transient Designer 4 Mk2 SPL

What is the Transient Designer 4 Mk2?
It is a 4-channel level-independent dynamics processor from SPL that allows separate control of the attack (transient) and sustain portions of an audio signal.
How do I connect the Transient Designer 4 Mk2?
Use balanced XLR cables to connect your audio sources to the inputs and outputs. Ensure all devices are powered off before connecting. The power cord should be connected to the mains and the rear power switch turned on.
What do the Attack and Sustain controls do?
Attack adjusts the transient phase by ±15 dB (positive increases attack, negative attenuates). Sustain adjusts the sustain phase by ±24 dB (positive lengthens sustain, negative shortens it).
How do I use the Link function?
For stereo operation, press the Link switch for channels 1&2 or 3&4. The left channel becomes the master, and its Attack/Sustain controls affect both channels in the linked pair.
What is the On switch for?
The On switch activates or bypasses the processing for that channel. It uses a relay hard bypass to minimize switching noise and provides direct input-to-output connection in case of power failure.
What are the power requirements?
The device can be set to 230 V AC / 50 Hz or 115 V AC / 60 Hz via a selector. Power consumption is max 15 W. Use the supplied power cord and ensure proper grounding.

Attack

ATTACK 0 3 6 10 dB

Attack can be used to increase or attenuate the transient phase of a signal by up to 15 dB. A positive attack value increases the amplitude of the transient response. negative attack values lead to an attenuation.

Sustain

SUSTAIN 0 3 6 12 18 24 dB

Sustain can be used to increase or attenuate the sustain phase of a signal by up to 24 dB. Positive sustain values extend the sustain. Negative Sustain values shorten the sustain.

SPL Transient Designer 4 Mk2 - Link - 1

Channels 1 & 2 as well as 3 & 4 can be linked for processing stereo signals. The respective left channel becomes the master.

On

SPL Transient Designer 4 Mk2 - On - 1

The On switch activates the respective Transient Designer channel. This allows you to quickly switch between processed and unprocessed signal.

To minimize switching noises, switching is performed directly after the balanced inputs and outputs. This relay hard bypass circuitry also provides immediate redirection of inputs to outputs in the event of a power fault on the primary or secondary side of the power supply, or if the device is powered off.
