Frequently Asked Questions - CH250 Cotech

How do I install the CH250 panel heater on the wall?
Use the supplied wall brackets. Detach them by pressing the release catch, mark and drill holes (ensuring no hidden cables/pipes), screw the brackets to the wall using suitable plugs and screws (not included), then hook the heater onto the brackets. Keep at least 50 mm clearance from the wall.
How do I set the desired room temperature?
Turn the thermostat knob to max, wait until the room reaches your desired temperature, then slowly turn the knob back until you hear a click (the heater switches off). It will then maintain that temperature automatically.
What is the freeze prevention feature and how do I use it?
Set the thermostat knob to the minimum (min) position. The heater will then try to keep the room temperature above 5°C, useful when you are away. Note that in very cold conditions or rapid temperature changes, it might not be sufficient.
What should I do if the heater stops working or overheats?
Unplug the heater, let it cool down for at least 10 minutes. Plug it back in and switch it on. The built-in over-temperature safety cut-off should reset and the heater will function normally again.
Can I use the panel heater in a bathroom?
No, the manual states: 'Do not use the panel heater in the immediate vicinity of bathtubs, showers or swimming pools.' It has an IP20 rating, which is not splash-proof.
How do I clean and maintain the heater?
Switch off and unplug the heater, let it cool completely. Vacuum the air intake/outlet grilles and wipe the exterior with a damp cloth using a mild cleaning agent. Never use solvents or corrosive chemicals.
Is the heater safe to leave unattended?
Yes, it has overheating protection and a freeze prevention setting. However, never cover the heater or place it directly under a wall socket. It should not be used with an external timer or automatic switch-on device.
What power does the heater consume?
The maximum power is 1000 W. It runs on 220–240 V AC, 50 Hz. Actual consumption depends on thermostat cycling.
Can I use an extension cord with the heater?
The manual does not explicitly forbid it, but it is recommended to plug it directly into a wall socket. If you must use an extension cord, ensure it is rated for at least 10 A and fully unwound to avoid overheating.
How should I dispose of the heater at the end of its life?
Take it to a local recycling facility or contact your retailer. Do not discard it with general household waste. The crossed-out wheeled bin symbol indicates separate collection for electrical and electronic equipment.

Installation

The wall brackets come fitted to the panel heater, pay attention to how they are attached so that you know how to hang the panel heater onto the brackets once they have been mounted on the wall.

  1. Detach the wall brackets from the panel heater by pressing in the release catch.
  2. Using the wall brackets as a guide, mark out the position of the mounting holes. Note: Before drilling the mounting holes, first make sure that there are no hidden electrical cables or water pipes in the wall.

  3. Use wall plugs and screws (sold separately) or another appropriate fastening method and screw the brackets to the wall.

Operating instructions

  1. Plug the heater into a wall socket.
  2. Switch the panel heater on.
  3. Turn the thermostat knob to max.
  4. Wait until the room has reached the desired temperature.
  5. Turn the knob back the other way until the panel heater switches off.
  6. The panel heater will now start heating automatically when the temperature in the room drops below this setting and stop heating once the set temperature has been reached.

Overheating protection

The heater is fitted with an over-temperature safety cut-off which switches the heater off if it overheats.

To reset the over-temperature safety cut-off switch, unplug the heater and let it cool. Plug the mains lead back in and switch the panel heater on again. The appliance should now function normally again.

Freeze prevention feature

To prevent the room temperature from dropping to under 5 °C (if you are going on holiday), the thermostat can be set to the freeze prevention setting min. The panel heater then keeps the room temperature at about 5 °C. Note: Bear in mind that the room temperature can be affected by many factors. The capacity of the panel heater may be insufficient in very cold weather or if the temperature changes rapidly. It might be necessary to monitor the temperature of the room to prevent it from dropping below 5 °C.

Care and maintenance

  • Switch the panel heater off, unplug it from the wall socket and let it cool before cleaning.
  • Vacuum clean and wipe the panel heater with a damp cloth, if and when required. Use only mild cleaning agents, never solvents or corrosive chemicals.
