Frequently Asked Questions - TT-501 Krüger&Matz

How do I connect the turntable to my speaker system?
Use the standard RCA output jacks. Connect to a Line input (e.g., AUX, CD) on your amplifier or mixer. Do not use PHONO input because the turntable has a built-in pre-amp.
Can I record vinyl to my computer?
Yes, connect the turntable to your PC/Mac via USB cable. Install the included Audacity software. Open Audacity, select USB Audio Codec as input, press record, and lower the tonearm onto the record.
Why is the sound crackling?
Check the following: ensure connection to a high-level input (CD, AUX, not PHONO). Clean the stylus and vinyl. Verify correct counterweight and anti-skating settings.
How do I replace the cartridge or stylus?
Detach the headshell by loosening the locking nut. Remove old cartridge, attach new one with correct wire colors (White L+, Blue L-, Red R+, Green R-). Reattach headshell and tighten nut.
What should I do if the platter doesn't spin?
Check the belt: turn the platter over, ensure the rubber belt is attached to the inner ring of the platter and not twisted. Also verify it is looped over the motor spindle.
How do I adjust the tonearm balance?
Rotate the counterweight at the back of the tonearm until the arm is perfectly balanced horizontally. This is pre-set at the factory but can be adjusted.
Can I connect external devices like an iPod?
Yes, use the AUX TO PC audio input on the turntable to connect an iPod, MP3 player, etc. This allows playback through the turntable's output.
Why can't I save recordings as MP3 in Audacity?
You need to download and install the LAME MP3 codec from the internet. After installation, you can export files as MP3.
How do I clean the turntable?
Disconnect from power. Use a soft, slightly damp cloth. Do not use chemical agents. Clean the stylus with a soft brush.
What are the safety precautions I should follow?
Keep away from water and heat. Only use the specified power supply. Children over 8 and persons with reduced capabilities should be supervised. Do not remove cover; no user-serviceable parts inside.

Warning: Incorrect platter setup can lead to poor turntable performance, platter instability or permanent motor damage.

  1. The rubber belt has been pre-installed onto the turntable platter. However, please turn the platter over and make sure that the belt is attached and is not twisted. If the belt has come off during shipping, please place it around the inner bottom ring of the turntable platter, as shown above (no. 1).

  2. Place the platter on the center spindle and press it down firmly. Rotate the platter until the brass motor spindle is visible through one of the holes. Check to make sure that it rotates uniformly and does not wobble excessively.

  3. Pass your fingers through the hole, grip the rubber drive belt and install it over the motor spindle. Be careful not to twist the rubber drive belt during this step. Check to make sure the platter rotates uniformly. If the drive belt is properly installed, there should be a slight amount of tension that brings the platter to a stop after spinning it freely.
