3: Preventing the TV from toppling over

1 Install a wood screw (4 mm in diameter, not supplied) in the TV stand.
2 Install a machine screw (M4 × 20, not supplied) into the screw hole of the TV.
3 Tie the wood screw and the machine screw with a strong cord (not supplied).

- An optional Sony support belt kit is used to secure the TV. Contact your nearest Sony service centre to purchase a kit. Have your TV model name ready for reference.

4: Bundling the cables

• Do not bundle the mains lead/AC power cord together with other cables.
• The illustration may differ from that of the actual rear panel, and the mains lead/AC power cord may already be connected, depending on the screen size.

5: Performing the initial set-up

* The shapes of mains plug/AC power plug and mains socket/AC power outlet differ depending on the region.

Follow the instructions on the screen.

Location: Select "Home" for the best TV settings to use the TV in the home.

Programme Sorting: If you want to change the order of channels, follow the steps in “Programme Sorting” (page 31).

Eco Preset: When you select "Yes", the "Eco" settings are changed into recommended values to reduce power consumption.

• You can also tune channels manually (page 32).
• Language options vary depending on model.

Adjusting the viewing angle of the TV

This TV can be adjusted within the angles shown below.

• Remove the screws guided by the arrow marks of the TV.
• Do not remove the Table-Top Stand for any reason other than listed below.
• To wall-mount the TV.

Safety Information

Installation/Set-up

Install and use the TV set in accordance with the instructions below in order to avoid any risk of fire, electrical shock or damage and/or injuries.

Installation

• The TV set should be installed near an easily accessible AC power outlet.
• Place the TV set on a stable, level surface to avoid it from falling down and cause personal injury or damage to the TV.
• Only qualified service personnel should carry out wall installations.

- For safety reasons, it is strongly recommended that you use Sony accessories, including: - Wall-mount bracket SU-WL500 - Wall-mount bracket SU-WL50B

- Be sure to use the screws supplied with the Wall-mount bracket when attaching the mounting hooks to the TV set. The supplied screws are designed so that they are 8mm to 12mm in length when measured from the attaching surface of the mounting hook. The diameter and length of the screws differ depending on the Wall-mount bracket model. Use of screws other than those supplied may result in internal damage to the TV set or cause it to fall, etc.

Transporting

• Before
transporting the TV set, disconnect all cables.
• Two orth r people are needed to transport a large TV set.
- When transporting the TV set by hand, hold it as shown on the right. Do not put stress on the LCD panel and the frame around the screen.
- When lifting or moving the TV set, hold it firmly from the bottom.
- When transporting the TV set, do not subject it to jolts or excessive vibration.
- When transporting the TV set for repairs or when moving, pack it using the original carton and packing material.

Ventilation

• Never cover the ventilation holes or insert anything in the cabinet.
• Leave space around the TV set as shown below.
• It is strongly recommended that you use a Sony wall-mount bracket in order to provide adequate air-circulation.

• To ensure proper ventilation and prevent the collection of dirt or dust:

- Do not lay the TV set flat, install upside down, backwards, or sideways.

- Do not place the TV set on a shelf, rug, bed or in a closet.

- Do not cover the TV set with a cloth, such as curtains, or items such as newspapers, etc.

- Do not install the TV set as shown below.

Air circulation is blocked.

AC power cord

Handle the AC power cord and outlet as follows in order to avoid any risk of fire, electrical shock or damage and/or injuries:

- Use only Sony supplied AC power cords, not those of other brands.

- Insert the plug fully into the AC power outlet.

- Operate the TV set on a 110–240 V AC supply only.

- When wiring cables, be sure to unplug the AC power cord for your safety and take care not to catch your feet on the cables.

- Disconnect the AC power cord from the AC power outlet before working on or moving the TV set.

- Keep the AC power cord away from heat sources.

- Unplug the AC power plug and clean it regularly. If the plug is covered with dust and it picks up moisture, its insulation may deteriorate, which could result in a fire.

Notes

• Do not use the supplied AC power cord on any other equipment.
• Do not pinch, bend, or twist the AC power cord excessively. The core conductors may be exposed or broken.
• Do not modify the AC power cord.
• Do not put anything heavy on the AC power cord.
• Do not pull on the AC power cord itself when disconnecting the AC power cord.
• Do not connect too many appliances to the same AC power outlet.
• Do not use a poor fitting AC power outlet.

Prohibited Usage

Do not install/use the TV set in locations, environments or situations such as those listed below, or the TV set may malfunction and cause a fire, electrical shock, damage and/or injuries.

Location:

Outdoors (in direct sunlight), at the seashore, on a ship or other vessel, inside a vehicle, in medical institutions, unstable locations, near water, rain, moisture or smoke.

Environment:

Places that are hot, humid, or excessively dusty; where insects may enter; where it might be exposed to mechanical vibration, near flammable objects (candles, etc.). The TV set shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing and no objects filled with liquids, such as vases, shall be placed on the TV.

Situation:

Do not use when your hands are wet, with the cabinet removed, or with attachments not recommended by the manufacturer. Disconnect the TV set from AC power outlet and antenna during lightning storms.

Broken pieces:

• Do not throw anything at the TV set. The screen glass may break by the impact and cause serious injury.
• If the surface of the TV set cracks, do not touch it until you have unplugged the AC power cord. Otherwise electric shock may result.

When not in use

• If you will not be using the TV set for several days, the TV set should be disconnected from the AC power for environmental and safety reasons.
• As the TV set is not disconnected from the AC power when the TV set is just turned off, pull the plug from the AC power outlet to disconnect the TV set completely.
  • However, some TV sets may have features that require the TV set to be left in standby to work correctly.

For children

• Do not allow children to climb on the TV set.
• Keep small accessories out of the reach of children, so that they are not mistakenly swallowed.

If the following problems occur...

Turn off the TV set and unplug the AC power cord immediately if any of the following problems occur.

Ask your dealer or Sony service centre to have it checked by qualified service personnel.

When:

• AC power cord is damaged.
  – Poor fitting of AC power outlet.
  – TV set is damaged by being dropped, hit or having something thrown at it.
  – Any liquid or solid object falls through openings in the cabinet.

Precautions

Viewing the TV

• View the TV in moderate light, as viewing the TV in poor light or during long period of time, strains your eyes.
- When using headphones, adjust the volume so as to avoid excessive levels, as hearing damage may result.

LCD Screen

• Although the LCD screen is made with high-precision technology and 99.99% or more of the pixels are effective, black dots may appear or bright points of light (red, blue, or green) may appear constantly on the LCD screen. This is a structural property of the LCD screen and is not a malfunction.
• Do not push or scratch the front filter, or place objects on top of this TV set. The image may be uneven or the LCD screen may be damaged.
• If this TV set is used in a cold place, a smear may occur in the picture or the picture may become dark. This does not indicate a failure. These phenomena disappear as the temperature rises.
• Ghosting may occur when still pictures are displayed continuously. It may disappear after a few moments.
• The screen and cabinet get warm when this TV set is in use. This is not a malfunction.
  • The LCD screen contains a small amount of liquid crystal. Mercury is sometimes contained depending on the kind of fluorescent tubes. Follow your local ordinances and regulations for disposal.

Handling and cleaning the screen surface/cabinet of the TV set

Be sure to unplug the AC power cord connected to the TV set from AC power outlet before cleaning.

To avoid material degradation or screen coating degradation, observe the following precautions.

• To remove dust from the screen surface/cabinet, wipe gently with a soft cloth. If dust is persistent, wipe with a soft cloth slightly moistened with a diluted mild detergent solution.
• Never use any type of abrasive pad, alkaline/acid cleaner, scouring powder, or volatile solvent, such as alcohol, benzene, thinner or insecticide. Using such materials or maintaining prolonged contact with rubber or vinyl materials may result in damage to the screen surface and cabinet material.
• Periodic vacuuming of the ventilation openings is recommended to ensure to proper ventilation.
• When adjusting the angle of the TV set, move it slowly so as to prevent the TV set from moving or slipping off from its table stand.

Optional Equipment

Keep optional components or any equipment emitting electromagnetic radiation away from the TV set. Otherwise picture distortion and/or noisy sound may occur.

Batteries

- Observe the correct polarity when inserting batteries.

• Do not use different types of batteries together or mix old and new batteries.
• Dispose of batteries in an environmentally friendly way. Certain regions may regulate the disposal of batteries. Please consult your local authority.
• Handle the remote with care. Do not drop or step on it, or spill liquid of any kind onto it.
• Do not place the remote in a location near a heat source, a place subject to direct sunlight, or a damp room.

Buttons on the TV will work the same as those on the remote.

* In the TV menu, these buttons will work as ↩/▽/↔/⇨/⊕.

- The number 5, ▶, PROG + and AUDIO buttons on the remote have a tactile dot. Use the tactile dots as a reference when operating the TV.

2 ⏻ (Power)	Press to turn the TV on or off.When ENERGY SAVING SWITCH is off, the TV cannot be turned on (KLV-40WE5 only)To turn the TV completely off, turn off the TV, then unplug the mains lead/AC power cord from the mains/AC power.
3 ENERGY SAVING SWITCH (for KLV-40WE5 only)	Press to turn the TV on or off. When ENERGY SAVING SWITCH is switched off, power consumption is reduced. If the TV is in standby mode when ENERGY SAVING SWITCH is switched off, switching ENERGY SAVING SWITCH on puts the TV back into standby mode only.When ENERGY SAVING SWITCH is switched off, you will not be able to perform functions such as saving clock settings or updating the TV’s software.

Press / to select the next file. When playing a music/video file: Press 3to pause/start the playback. Press and hold / to fast forward/fast reverse, then release the button at the point where you want to resume playback. Press to start playback from the beginning of the current file. Press to go to the next file.
5	HOME	Press to display the TV Home Menu (page 23).

18 (Previous channel)	Returns to the previous channel watched (for more than five seconds).

19 SCENE Press to display the "Scene Select" menu.

When you select the desired scene option, the optimum sound quality and picture quality for the selected scene are automatically set. Press // to select the scene option, then press .

Cinema: Delivers picture scenes just like those in a theatre-like atmosphere with dynamic sound.

Sports: Delivers picture scenes that enable you experience realistic picture and sound like those in a stadium.

Photo: Delivers picture scenes that authentically reproduces the texture and colour of a printed photo.

Music: Delivers sound effects that enable you experience dynamic and clear sound like that at a concert.

Game: Delivers picture scenes that enable you enjoy your game-playing experience to the fullest with superb picture and sound quality.

Graphics: Delivers picture scenes that ease your prolonged monitor viewing experience and reduce fatigue by displaying clearer detailed pictures.

General: Use this setting when you do not optimise the sound quality and picture quality for any scene.

Auto: The optimum sound quality and picture quality are automatically set according to the input source, though there may not be any effect depending on the connected devices.

- When you set Theatre Mode (page 13) to on, the “Scene Select” setting switches to “Cinema” automatically.

21BRAVIA Sync	◀◀/▶-/■/▶▶/■: You can operate the BRAVIA Sync-compatible equipment that is connected to the TV.SYNC MENU: Displays the menu of connected HDMI equipment. While viewing other input screens or TV programmes, “HDMI Device Selection” is displayed when the button is pressed.THEATRE: You can set Theatre Mode to on or off. When Theatre Mode is set to on, the optimum sound quality (if the TV is connected with an audio system using an HDMI cable) and picture quality for film-based contents are automatically set.⚠️If you turn the TV off, Theatre Mode is also turned off.When you change the “Scene Select” setting, Theatre Mode turns off automatically.“Control for HDMI” (BRAVIA Sync) is only available with the connected Sony equipment that has the BRAVIA Sync or BRAVIA Theatre Sync logo or is compatible with control for HDMI.

- Make sure that the TV is completely turned off before unplugging the main lead/AC power cord. Unplugging the main lead/AC power cord while the TV is turned on may cause the indicator to remain lit or may cause the TV to malfunction.

Watching TV

1 Press ⏻ on the TV to turn on the TV.

When the TV cannot be turned on, switch ENERGY SAVING SWITCH on, then press ⏻ on the TV (page 10) (KLV-40WE5 only).

When the TV is in standby mode (the ⏻ (standby) indicator on the TV front panel is red), press ⚠/⏻ on the remote to turn on the TV.

2 Press the number buttons or PROG +/- to select a TV channel.

To access Text

Press ☐. Each time you press ☐, the display changes cyclically as follows:

Text and TV picture → Text → No Text (exit the Text service)

To select a page, press the number buttons or 📐/✉.

- You can also jump directly to a page by selecting the page number displayed on the screen. Press and // to select the page number, then press

- When four coloured items appear at the bottom of the Text page, you can access pages quickly and easily (Fastext). Press the corresponding coloured button to access the page.

To change the Wide Mode manually

Press repeatedly to select the desired Wide Mode.

Wide Zoom\*

Simple geometric diagram with a central circle surrounded by four smaller circles, no text or symbols present.

Enlarges the centre portion of the picture. The left and right edges of the picture are stretched to fill the 16:9 screen.

Normal

Displays the 4:3 picture in its original size. Side bars are shown to fill the 16:9 screen.

Full

Stretches the 4:3 picture horizontally, to fill the 16:9 screen.

Zoom\*

Displays the cinemascopic (letter box format) picture in the correct proportion.

* Parts of the top and bottom of the picture may be cut off. You can adjust the vertical position of the picture. Press / to move the picture up or down (e.g. to read subtitles).

[Non-Text]

- When you select “Wide Zoom”, some characters and/or letters at the top and the bottom of the picture may not be visible. In such a case, adjust “Vertical Size” in the “Screen” menu (page 28).

[Symbol]

• When “Auto Wide” (page 28) is set to “On”, the TV will automatically select the best mode to suit the input from an external equipment.
• If 720p, 1080i or 1080p source pictures are displayed with black borders on the screen edges, select "Wide Zoom" or "Zoom" to adjust the pictures.

Using the Favourite List

The Favourite feature lets you select programmes from a list of up to 16 favourite channels that you specify.

Connecting audio-video equipment (quality order, high to low)

4 HDMI IN 1, 2, 3, HDMI cable or 4	Digital video and audio signals are input from the connected equipment.In addition, when you connect the equipment that is compatible with control for HDMI, communication with the connected equipment is supported. See page 30 to set up this communication.If the equipment has a DVI socket/jack, connect the DVI socket/jack to the HDMI IN 1 socket/jack through a DVI - HDMI adaptor interface (not supplied), and connect the equipment's audio out socket/jack to the PC/HDMI 1 AUDIO IN socket/jack in the PC IN sockets/jacks (the PC/HDMI 1 AUDIO IN socket/jack is used as the audio in socket/jack for both the PC IN and HDMI IN 1 sockets/jacks).Be sure to use only an authorized HDMI cable bearing the HDMI logo. We recommend that you use a Sony HDMI cable (high speed type).
3 1 or 2 Component video cable, audio cable	When using the component video jack 1 as the video jack 3, select “Video 3” in the “Video 3/Component 1 Input” menu (page 30).You cannot use the component video jack 1 and the video jack 3 at the same time.
2 7 s→1, 1 or 2, and or 2 S-video cable or 1 composite video cable, audio cable	To avoid picture noise, do not connect the camcorder to the video jack and the S video jack 1 and the same time. If you connect a mono equipment, connect to the L (MONO) jack 1 or 2.When using the video jack 1 and audio jack 1 as output jacks, select “Output” in the “Video 1 Input/Output” menu (page 30).

Viewing Pictures from Connected Equipment

Turn on the connected equipment, then perform the following operation.

2 Press ♠/▽ to select the desired input source, then press ⊕

The picture from the connected PC or equipment is displayed in full size and the TV programme is displayed in the bottom right corner.

The sub screen picture is framed in gray when the main screen is audible.

You can use ♠/▽ to move the sub screen position.

2 Press ⚙, RETURN or ☐ repeatedly to return to single picture mode.

- Because the video processing modes are different, the picture quality may differ between the main and sub screens. This is not a malfunction.

To view two pictures simultaneously – Twin Picture/PIP (Picture in Picture)

You can view two pictures (external or PC input and TV programme) on the screen simultaneously.

Each time you press ☐ the viewing mode changes cyclically from “Twin Picture”, to “PIP”, to single picture mode.

- “PC Power Management” (page 24) is not available in PIP mode.

• You can switch the audible picture by pressing / .
• You can select the TV channel with the number buttons or PROG +/-

For Twin Picture mode

1 Press (ecept HDMI (PC) or PC input).

The picture from the connected equipment is displayed on the left and the TV programme is displayed on the right. The picture framed in gray is audible.

2 Press ⊕, RETURN or □ repeatedly to return to single picture mode.

For PIP mode

1 Press □ again.

The mode changes from “Twin Picture” to “PIP”.

You can enjoy photo/music/video files stored in a Sony digital still camera or camcorder through a USB cable or USB storage device on your TV.

1 Connect a supported USB device to the TV.

Photo Playback Auto Start

The TV automatically starts photo playback when the TV is turned on and a digital still camera or other device storing photo files is connected to the USB port then turned on (page 29).

• While the TV is accessing the data on the USB device, observe the following:
• Do not turn off the TV or connected USB device.
• Do not disconnect the USB cable.
• Do not remove the USB device.
  The data on the USB device may be damaged.

- Sony will not be held liable for any damage to, or loss of, data on the recording media due to a malfunction of any connected devices or the TV.

- Playback does not start automatically if the TV is turned on after connecting the digital still camera or other device to the USB port.

- USB playback is supported for the following photo file formats:

- JPEG (JPEG format files with the extension ".jpg" and conforming to DCF 2.0 or Exif 2.21)

- RAW (ARW/ARW 2.0 format files with the extension “.arw” for preview only)

• USB playback is supported for the following music file format:
• MP3 (files with the extension “.mp3” that have not been copyrighted)

- USB playback is supported for the following video file format:

- MPEG1 (files with the extension “.mpg”)

- Photo Playback Auto Start works only for photo files in the newest digital still camera folder (DCF-compliant, highest-numbered “DCIM” folder).

• Playback may not start automatically when some digital still cameras (such as cameras with internal memory) are connected.
• The file name and folder name support only English.
• When you connect a Sony digital still camera, set the camera's USB connection mode to Auto or “Mass Storage”. For more information about USB connection mode, refer to the instructions supplied with your digital camera.

• Use a USB storage device that is compliant with USB mass storage device class standards.

You can register the background music to be played during a slideshow using photo). While playing back music, press OPTIONS, then select "Add to Slideshow", or while displaying a photograph, press OPTIONS, select "Playback options", then select "Slideshow Music".

To display a photograph — Picture Frame

You can display a photograph on the screen for a selected period of time. After that period, the TV automatically switches itself into standby mode.

1 Select a photograph.

2 Press OPTIONS while the selected photograph is displayed, select “File options”, then press ⏻/⌘ to select “Picture Frame Image” and press Ⓗ

3 Press RETURN repeatedly to return to the Home Menu.

4 Press ⇔/⇒ to select "Photo", then select "Picture Frame" and press ⊕

The TV is switched to Picture Frame mode, and the selected photograph is displayed on the screen.

To set the duration of displaying a photograph

Press OPTIONS, then select "Duration" and press ⚠Then, select the duration, and press ⚠.

The duration appears on the screen.

To return to the XMB™

Press RETURN.

- If the photograph is selected from a USB device, it must remain connected to the TV.

- If “Sleep Timer” is activated, the TV will automatically switch into standby mode.

Using BRAVIA Sync with Control for HDMI

The control for HDMI function enables the TV to communicate with the connected equipment that is compatible with the function, using HDMI CEC (Consumer Electronics Control). For example, by connecting Sony equipment that is compatible with control for HDMI (with HDMI cables), you can control them together.

Be sure to connect the equipment correctly, and make the necessary settings.

Control for HDMI

• Automatically turns the connected equipment off when you switch the TV to standby mode using the remote.
• Automatically turns the TV on and switches the input to the connected equipment when the equipment starts to play.
• If you turn on a connected audio system while the TV is on, the sound output switches from the TV speaker to the audio system.
• Adjusts the volume ( + / - ) and mutes the sound ( × ) of a connected audio system.

• You can operate the connected Sony equipment that has the BRAVIA Sync logo by the TV remote by pressing:

• ▶/■/■/◄◄/►► to operate the connected equipment directly.

• SYNC MENU to display the menu of the connected HDMI equipment on the screen.
  After displaying the menu, you can operate the menu screen by using ⏻/∅/∅/∅, ⊕, colour buttons and RETURN.

- OPTIONS to display “Device Control”, then select options from “Options” and “Content List” to operate the equipment.

– Refer to the instruction manual of the equipment for available control.

- If “Control for HDMI” of the TV is set to “On”, “Control for HDMI” of the connected equipment is also automatically switched to “On”.

To connect the equipment that is compatible with control for HDMI

Connect the compatible equipment and the TV with an HDMI cable. When connecting an audio system, be sure to also connect the audio output jacks (refer 1 in page 18) to listen to the sound from the TV on audio system.

To make the control for HDMI settings

The control for HDMI settings must be set on both the TV side and connected equipment side. See “HDMI Set-up” (page 30) for the TV side settings. For settings on the connected equipment, refer to the operating instructions for that equipment.

Navigating through TV Home Menu on XMB™

The XMB ^TM (XrossMediaBar) is a menu of BRAVIA features and input sources displayed on the TV screen. The XMB ^TM is an easy way to select programmes and adjust settings on your BRAVIA TV.

Clock/ Timers

Sleep Timer

Sets the TV to automatically switch to standby mode after a certain amount of time.When “Sleep Timer” is activated, the ⏻(Timer) indicator on the TV front panel lights up in orange.When you turn off the TV and turn it on again, “Sleep Timer” is reset to “Off”.

On Timer Sets the TV to automatically turn on from standby mode.

Clock Set Allows you to adjust the clock manually.

- “Clock Set” will automatically reset when you turn off the AC power or ENERGY SAVING SWITCH.

Eco

Reset Resets all the “Eco” settings to the factory settings.

Power Saving	Reduces power consumption of the TV by adjusting the backlight.When you select “Picture Off”, the picture is switched off, and the (Picture Off) indicator on the TV front panel lights up in green. The sound remains unchanged.
Presence Sensor (for KLV-40WE5 only)	When no presence is detected in front of TV, the TV switches to picture off mode automatically according to the selected period of time. Additionally, when no presence is detected after 30 minutes in picture off mode, the TV switches to standby mode.

- Even if a person is in front of the TV, the sensor may work if the person does not move. The sensor may not work when the temperature changes due to the air conditioning etc.

Idle TV Standby	Turns the TV off after it has been kept idle for the preset length of time.
PC Power Management	Switches the TV to standby mode when the TV receives no signal from the PC input source for 30 seconds.
Light Sensor	Automatically optimises the picture settings according to the ambient light in the room.

- Do not put anything over the sensor, doing so may affect its function. See page 14 to check the position of the sensor.

Target Inputs	Allows you to select whether to use the common settings or to make custom settings for the input you are currently viewing.
	Common	Applies common settings to all inputs in which “Target Inputs” is set to “Common”.
	Name of current input (e.g. Video 1)	Allows you to make custom settings for the input.
Picture Mode	Sets a picture mode. The options that can be selected differ depending on the scene select settings.
	Vivid Enhances picture contrast and sharpness.
	Standard For standard pictures. Recommended for home entertainment.
	Custom Allows you to store your preferred settings.
	Cinema	For viewing film-based content. Most suitable when viewing the TV in a theatre-like environment.
	Photo-Vivid	For viewing photographs. Enhances picture contrast and sharpness.
	Photo-Standard	For viewing photographs. Provides the optimum picture quality for viewing in the home.
	Photo-Original	For viewing photographs. Represents the picture quality used when imaging developed photographs.
	Photo-Custom For viewing photographs. Allows you to store your preferred settings.
	Sports	Provides the optimum picture quality for viewing sports.
	Game Most suitable for when playing games on your TV.
	Graphics	Provides the optimum picture quality for viewing graphics.
Reset	Resets all the “Picture” settings to the factory settings excluding “Target Inputs”, “Picture Mode” and “Advanced Settings”.
Backlight Adjusts the brightness of the backlight.
Picture	Increases or decreases picture contrast.
Brightness	Brightens or darkens the picture.
Colour	Increases or decreases colour intensity.
Hue	Increases or decreases the green tones and red tones.
	“Hue” can be adjusted only for the NTSC colour signal (e.g. U.S.A. video tapes).
Colour Temperature	Adjusts the whiteness of the picture.
	Cool	Gives white colours a blue tint.
	Neutral	Gives white colours a neutral tint.
	Warm 1/Warm 2	Gives white colours a red tint. “Warm 2” gives a redder tint than “Warm 1”.
	“Warm 1” and “Warm 2” are not available when “Picture Mode” is set to “Vivid” (or “Photo-Vivid”).
Sharpness	Sharpens or softens the picture.
Noise Reduction	Reduces the noise level of pictures (snowy pictures).
MPEG Noise Reduction	Reduces picture noise in MPEG-compressed videos. This is effective when viewing a DVD.
Motionflow	Provides smoother picture movement and reduces picture blur.
	High Provides smoother picture movement such as for film-based contents.
	Standard Provides smooth picture movement. Use this setting for standard use.
	Off Use this setting when the “High” or “Standard” settings result in noise.
	Depending on the video, you may not see the effect visually, even if you have changed the setting.
Cinema Drive	Provides improved picture movement when playing DVD or VCR images taken on film, reducing picture blur and graininess.
	Auto 1 Provides smoother picture movement than the original film-based content. Use this setting for standard use.
	Auto 2 Provides the original film-based content as is.
	Off Turns off the “Cinema Drive” feature.
	If the image contains irregular signals or too much noise, “Cinema Drive” is automatically turned off even if “Auto 1” or “Auto 2” is selected.
Advanced Settings	Allows you to set “Picture” settings in more detail. These settings are not available when “Picture Mode” is set to “Vivid” (or “Photo-Vivid”).
	Reset Resets all the advanced settings to the factory settings.
	Black Corrector Enhances black areas of the picture for stronger contrast.
	Adv. Contrast Enhancer Automatically adjusts “Backlight” and “Picture” to the most suitable settings judging from the brightness of the screen. This setting is especially effective for dark images scenes, and will increase the contrast distinction of the darker picture scenes.
	Gamma Adjusts the balance between bright and dark areas of the picture.
	Auto Light Limiter Reduces glare such as in scenes where the entire screen is white.
	Clear White Emphasises white colours.
	Live Colour Makes colours more vivid.
	White Balance Adjusts the temperature of each colour.

Sound

Target Inputs	Allows you to select whether to use the common settings or to make custom settings for the input you are currently viewing.
	Common Applies common settings to all inputs in which “Target Inputs” is set to “Common”.
	Name of current input (e.g. Video 1) Allows you to make custom settings for the input.
Sound Mode	Sets a sound mode. “Sound Mode” includes options best suited for video and photographs, respectively. The options that can be selected differ depending on the scene select settings.
	Dynamic Enhances the treble and bass sounds.
	Standard	For standard sounds. Recommended for home entertainment.
	Clear Voice Makes voice sound clearer.
Reset	Resets all the “Sound” settings to the factory settings excluding “Target Inputs”, “Sound Mode” and “Dual Sound”.
Treble Adjusts higher-pitched sounds.
Bass Adjusts lower-pitched sounds.
Balance Emphasises the left or right speaker.
Intelligent Volume	Minimizes the difference in volume level between all programmes and adverts (e.g. adverts tend to be louder than programmes).
Volume Offset	Adjusts the volume level of the current input relative to other inputs, when “Target Inputs” is set to the current input name (e.g. Video 1).
Surround	Allows you to select the suitable surround effects depending on the genre of TV programme (movie, sport, music, etc.) or video game.The options that can be selected differ depending on the “Scene Select” settings.
	S-FORCE Front Surround	Delivers surround effects that help you enjoy the virtual multi-ch surround audio with just the two internal TV speakers.
	Simulated Stereo	Adds a surround-like effect to mono programmes.
	Cinema	Delivers surround effects just like the high-grade audio systems found in movie theatres.
	Music	Delivers surround effects that make you feel like you are surrounded by sound as in a music hall.
	Sports	Delivers surround effects that make you feel like you are watching a live sports contest.
	Game	Delivers surround effects that enhance game sound.
	Off	Converts and reproduces multi-ch audio to 2ch audio. In the case of other audio formats, the original audio is reproduced.
Voice Zoom	Adjusts the sound level of human voices. For example, if the voice of a news announcer is indistinct, you can turn up this setting to make the voice louder. Conversely, if you are watching a sports programme, you can turn down this setting to soften the voice of the commentator.
Sound Enhancer	Enhances high-frequency sounds.Reproducing the sound with much clearness by adjusting high-frequency bands.
Sound Booster	Produces a fuller sound for more impact, by emphasizing the treble and bass sounds.
Dual Sound	Sets the sound from the speaker for a stereo or bilingual broadcast.
	Stereo/Mono	For stereo broadcasts.
	Main/Sub/Mono	For bilingual broadcasts, select “Main” for sound channel 1, “Sub” for sound channel 2, or “Mono” for mono channel, if available.
	For other equipment connected to the TV, set “Dual Sound” to “Stereo”, “Main”, or “Sub”.
Target Inputs	Allows you to select whether to use the common settings or to make custom settings for the input you are currently viewing.
	Common Applies common settings to all inputs in which “Target Inputs” is set to “Common”.

Wide Mode See “To change the Wide Mode manually” (page 16).

4:3 Default Sets the default Wide Mode for 4:3 broadcasts.
			Wide Zoom Enlarges the 4:3 picture to fill the 16:9 screen, keeping the original image as much as possible.
			Normal	Displays conventional 4:3 broadcasts in the correct proportion.
			Off Uses the setting that you specified in “Wide Mode”.
Display Area Adjusts the picture display area.
			Auto Automatically switches to the most appropriate display area.
			Full Pixel Displays the picture for 1080/50i, 1080/60i, 1080/50p and 1080/60p sources (HDMI or component input only) or 1080/24p sources (HDMI input only) in the original size.
			+1 Displays pictures in their original size.
			Normal Displays pictures in their recommended size.
			-1/-2	Enlarges the picture so that the edges are outside the visible display area.
Horizontal Shift	Adjusts the horizontal position of the picture.
Vertical Shift	Adjusts the vertical position of the picture when “Wide Mode” is set to “Wide Zoom” or “Zoom”.
Vertical Size	Adjusts the vertical size of the picture when “Wide Mode” is set to “Wide Zoom”.

Screen (for PC input)

Auto Adjustment	Automatically adjusts the display position, phase, and pitch of the picture when the TV receives an input signal from the connected PC.
	• “Auto Adjustment” may not work well with certain input signals. In such cases, manually adjust “Phase”, “Pitch”, “Horizontal Shift”, and “Vertical Shift”.
Reset	Resets all PC screen settings to factory settings.
Phase	Adjusts the phase when the screen flickers.
Pitch	Adjusts the pitch when the picture has unwanted vertical stripes.
Horizontal Shift	Adjusts the horizontal position of the picture.
Vertical Shift	Adjusts the vertical position of the picture.
Wide Mode	Sets “Wide Mode” for displaying pictures from your PC.
	Normal Displays the picture in its original size.
	Full 1 Enlarges the picture to fill the vertical display area, while maintaining its original proportion.
	Full 2 Enlarges the picture to fill the display area.

Video Settings

Colour System

Sets the colour system (“Auto”, “PAL”, “SECAM”, “NTSC3.58” or “NTSC4.43”) according to the input signal from the input source.

Audio Settings

Speaker TV Speaker Turns on and outputs the TV's sound from the TV speakers.
	Audio System Turns off the TV speakers and outputs the TV's sound from external audio equipment connected to the audio output sockets/jacks on the TV.You can also turn on the connected equipment that is compatible with control for HDMI, after making the appropriate settings of control for HDMI.
Audio Out	Variable	When using an external audio system, volume output from audio out can be controlled using the TV's remote.
	Fixed The audio output of the TV is fixed. Use your audio receiver's volume control to adjust the volume (and other audio settings) through your audio system.
Headphone Settings	Speaker Link	Switches the TV's internal speakers on/off when you connect headphones to the TV.
	Volume	Adjusts the volume of the headphones when “Speaker Link” is set to “Off”.
	Dual Sound	Sets the sound from the headphones for a bilingual broadcast.

Set-up

USB Auto Start	Automatically starts photo playback when the TV is turned on and a digital still camera or other device storing photo files is connected to the USB port then turned on.
	Playback does not start automatically if the TV is turned on after connecting the digital still camera or other device to the USB port.
Quick Start	The TV turns on faster than usual by turning on the power using the remote.However, power consumption in standby mode is approximately 16 watts higher than usual. Up to 3 out of 5 time zones can be set.
Video Labels	Assigns an icon or name to the external inputs. Video 3/Component 1 Input	Switches between the component video jack ➔and the video jack 3. ➔You cannot use the component video jack ➔1 and the video jack ➔3 at the same time.
HDMI Set-up	Allows the TV to communicate with equipment that is compatible with the control for HDMI function, and connected to the HDMI sockets/jacks of the TV. Note that communication settings must also be made on the connected equipment.
	Control for HDMI Sets whether or not to link the operations of the TV and the connected equipment that is compatible with control for HDMI. When set to “On”, the following functions are available.If the specific Sony equipment that is compatible with control for HDMI is connected, this setting is applied to the connected equipment automatically when the “Control for HDMI” is set to “On” using the TV.
	Auto Devices Off When this is set to “On”, the connected equipment that is compatible with control for HDMI turns off when you turn off the TV by remote.
	Auto TV On When this is set to “On”, the TV turns on when you turn on the connected equipment that is compatible with control for HDMI.
	HDMI Device List Displays a list of connected equipment that is compatible with control for HDMI.
	You cannot use “Control for HDMI” if the TV operations are linked to the operations of an audio system that is compatible with control for HDMI.
Auto Start-up	You can run the initial set-up that appeared when you first connected the TV, and select the language and country/area, or tune in all available channels again. Even if you have made the settings when you first connected the TV, you may need to change the settings after moving house, or to search for newly launched channels.
Language Sets the language displayed on the menu screens.
Product Information Displays product information of the TV.
Factory Settings	Resets all settings to factory settings except for the “Programme Block” setting, “Favourites” setting, and programme preset data. After completing this process, the initial set-up screen is displayed. Completing auto tuning in initial set-up will reset the settings that are not reset by “Factory Settings”. To retain the settings, skip the “Auto Tuning”.

Channel Set-up

1 Digit Direct	When “1 Digit Direct” is set to “On”, you can select a channel using one preset number button (0 – 9) on the remote.
	When “1 Digit Direct” is set to “On”, you cannot select channel numbers 10 and above by entering two digits on the remote.
Favourite Set-up	Allows you to set your favourite channels by assigning the desired channel numbers.To reset the favourite channels, select “– – –”.
Auto Tuning Tunes in all the available channels.You can retune the TV after moving house, or to search for newly launched channels.
Programme Sorting Changes the order of channels stored in the TV.
1	Press ⇔/⇨ to select the channel you want to move to a new position, then press ⊕.
2	Press ⇔/⇨ to select the new position for the channel, then press ⊕.
Programme Labels	Assigns a channel name of your choice, up to five letters or numbers. The name appears briefly on the screen when you select the channel. Names for channels are usually taken automatically from Text (if available).
1	Press ⇔/⇨ to select the channel you want to name, then press ⊕.
2	Press ⇔/⇨ to select the desired letter or number (“_” for a blank space), then press ➔.
If you enter a wrong characterPress ⇔/⇨ to select the wrong character. Then, press ⇔/⇨ to select the correct character.
3	Repeat step 2 until you finish entering the name.
4	Press to exit the labeling procedure.
Programme Block Blocks an individual channel from being watched.
1	Press ⇔/⇨ to select the channel you want to block, then press ⊕.
2	Press ⇔/⇨ to select “Block”, then press ⊕.To watch the channel, select “Allow”.
Intelligent Picture	On with Indicator Automatically reduces the picture noise. The signal level bar is displayed when the channel is changed or the display is changed from an input screen to a TV programme.
On	Automatically reduces the picture noise.
Off	Turns off the “Intelligent Picture” feature.
Manual Programme Preset	To preset a channel, press PROG +/- to select the programme number, before selecting “Label”, “AFT”, “Audio Filter”, “Skip”, “Signal Booster” or “Colour System”. You cannot select a programme number that is set to “Skip” (page 32).
	Programme/ TV System/ Frequency	Presets programme channels manually.1 Press ⇧/▽ to select “Programme”, then press ⊕.2 Press ⇧/▽ to select the programme number you want to manually tune (if tuning a VCR, select programme 0), then press ⊕3 Press ⇧/▽ to select “TV System”, then press ⊕.4 Press ⇧/▽ to select the best received TV broadcast systems, then press ⊕5 Press ⇧/▽ to select “Frequency”, then press ⊕.6 Press ⇧/▽ to search for the next available channel. The frequency band (“VHF Low”, “VHF High” or “UHF”) is changed accordingly.
	Label	Assigns a name of your choice to the selected channel. This name appears briefly on the screen when you select the channel.To input characters, follow steps 2 to 4 in “Programme Labels” (page 31).
	AFT Allows you to fine-tune the selected channel manually if you feel that a slight tuning adjustment may improve picture quality.When “On” is selected, fine tuning adjustments are made automatically.
	Audio Filter	Improves the sound of individual channels when distortion occurs in mono broadcasts in TV system “B/G”, “I” and “D/K”.● You cannot receive stereo or dual sound when “Low” or “High” is selected.
	Skip	Skips unused channels when you press PROG +/- to select channels. To select channels you have programmed to skip, use the corresponding number buttons.
	Signal Booster	Improves the picture quality if the TV signal is too strong or weak. Press ⇧/▽ to select either “Off” if the signal is too strong (picture distorted; picture with lines; signal interference) or “Auto” if the signal is weak (snowy picture), then press ⊕
	Colour System	Selects the colour system (“Auto”, “PAL”, “SECAM”, “NTSC3.58” or “NTSC4.43”) according to the channel.
	Signal Level	Displays the signal level for programme currently being watched.

Installing the Accessories (Wall-Mount Bracket)

- Place the TV on the Table-Top Stand, when securing the Mounting Hook.

Sufficient expertise is required for installing this product, especially to determine the strength of the wall for withstanding the TV's weight. Be sure to entrust the attachment of this product to the wall to Sony dealers or licensed contractors and pay adequate attention to safety during the installation. Troubleshooting

Check whether the ⏻ (standby) indicator is flashing in red.

When the ⏻ (standby) indicator is flashing

The self-diagnosis function is activated.

1 Count how many times the ⏻ (standby) indicator flashes between each two second break. For example, the indicator may flash three times, go off for two seconds, then flash again three times.
2 Press ⏻ on the TV to turn it off, disconnect the mains lead, and inform your dealer or Sony service centre of how the indicator flashes (number of flashes).

When the ⏻ (standby) indicator is not flashing

1 Check the items in the tables below.
2 If the problem persists, have your TV serviced by qualified service personnel.

Picture
There is no picture (screen is dark) and no sound.	Check the antenna/cable connection.Connect the TV to the mains/AC power, and press ⏻ on the TV.If the ⏻ (standby) indicator lights up in red, press ⏻/ ⏻.

The picture is not displayed in colour.	Select “Reset” (page 25).
The picture from equipment connected to the 1 or 2 sockets/jacks is not displayed in colour, or is displayed in irregular colours.	Check the connection of the 1 or 2 sockets/jacks and check if the sockets/jacks are firmly seated in their respective sockets/jacks.

Channels

Some channels are blank.

The channel is for scrambled/subscription service only. Subscribe to a pay TV service.The channel is used only for data (no picture or sound).Contact the broadcaster for transmission details.

General

The TV power cannot be turned on.	• Check if ENERGY SAVING SWITCH is on (page 10).
The TV turns off automatically (the TV enters standby mode).	• Check if the “Sleep Timer” is activated, or confirm the “Duration” setting of “On Timer” (page 24).• Check if the “Idle TV Standby” is activated (page 24).• Check if the “Presence Sensor” is activated (page 24).
The TV turns on automatically.	• Check if the “On Timer” is activated (page 24).
Some input sources cannot be selected.	• Select “Video Labels” and cancel the “Skip” setting for the input source (page 30).
The remote does not function.	• Replace the batteries.
HDMI equipment does not appear on “HDMI Device List.”	• Check that your equipment is compatible with control for HDMI.
You cannot select “Off” in “Control for HDMI”.	• If you have connected any audio system that is compatible with control for HDMI, you cannot select “Off” in this menu. If you want to change the audio output to the TV speaker, select “TV Speaker” in the “Speaker” menu (page 29).

Instructions on "Installing the Wall-Mount Bracket" are not supplied in the form of a separate leaflet with this TV. These installation instructions are included within this TV's instructions manual.
