Frequently Asked Questions - HV390UK SHARK

What should I do if the brushroll indicator light turns red?
The brushroll indicator light turning red indicates a jam in the brushroll area. Turn off and unplug the vacuum, then remove any debris (hair, string, carpet fibers) wrapped around the brushroll or Soft Roller. Once cleared, plug in and turn on; the light should turn green. If it remains red, contact Customer Service at 0800 862 0453.
Why is my Shark vacuum losing suction?
Loss of suction can be due to a full dust cup, dirty filters, or blockages. Empty the dust cup when debris reaches the MAX line. Clean the pre-motor filters monthly and the post-motor filter every 9 months. Check the wand, floor nozzle, and dust cup for blockages. Ensure all filters are completely dry before reinstalling.
How do I clean the filters?
For pre-motor filters: remove the dust cup, separate the foam filter from the felt frame, rinse both with water (no soap), and allow to air-dry completely. For post-motor filter: located under the handle, remove and rinse with water. Always air-dry for at least 24 hours before reinstalling.
The vacuum turns off by itself. What should I do?
This is likely due to the motor-protective thermostat activating from overheating. Turn off and unplug the vacuum. Empty the dust cup, clean filters, and check for blockages. Allow the unit to cool for at least 45 minutes. Then plug in and turn on. If it still does not start, call Customer Service.
Can I use the vacuum to pick up liquids?
No. This vacuum is designed for dry surfaces only. Do not use to suck up water or any liquids. Using it on wet surfaces or picking up liquids can cause electric shock and damage the appliance.
How do I switch to above-floor mode?
For long-reach cleaning: stand the vacuum upright, step on the foot pedal, and pull the wand up to detach from the floor nozzle. Attach an accessory to the wand. For short-reach cleaning: press the Wand Release button to detach the handheld vacuum from the wand, then attach accessories or the motorized floor nozzle directly.
How should I store the vacuum?
Wrap the power cord around the upper and lower cord hooks. Press the Flexology™ Lock Release button and fold the handheld vacuum forward toward the floor nozzle. Use the carry handle to transport or store. To release from storage mode, press the lock button and lift the handheld vacuum until the wand locks upright.
What accessories are compatible with my HV390UK?
The vacuum is compatible with Shark genuine accessories including crevice tool, dusting brush, upholstery tool, anti-allergen dust brush, deep-cleaning motorized pet tool, and under appliance wand. Some accessories are included with your model; check the box flap. Purchase additional accessories at sharkaccessories.eu.
How do I register my guarantee?
Register online within 28 days of purchase at sharkclean.eu/uk/register-guarantee. You will need the serial number (on the rating label) and proof of purchase. Registration extends the warranty to 5 years total (12 months plus 4 additional years).
What should I do if the nozzle headlights are flashing?
Flashing headlights indicate the brushroll garage is not completely closed. Turn off and unplug the vacuum. Ensure the lid is properly seated by inserting the tabs into the slots and pressing down firmly on both sides until it clicks into place. The lights should stop flashing.

  • Check filters to see if they need cleaning. Follow instructions for rinsing and completely air-drying the filters before reinserting into the vacuum.
  • Dust cup may be full; empty dust cup.
  • Check floor nozzle for blockages; clear blockages if required.
  • Remove any string, carpet fibres, or hair that may be wrapped around the brushroll and Soft Roller or trapped behind the Soft Roller.

  • Turn off the unit to disengage the brushroll and restart with the Power/Selector slider switch.

Brushroll/Soft Roller does not spin.

  • If Brushroll Indicator Light on the floor nozzle turns red, the brushroll and/or Soft Roller have stopped spinning. Immediately turn off and unplug vacuum and remove blockage before reconnecting and turning vacuum back on.
  • If Brushroll Indicator Light on the floor nozzle is green, the blockage has been successfully cleared. If the light is still red, please contact Customer Service on 0800 862 0453.
