Frequently Asked Questions - RC 1200 Ottimo Rommelsbacher

How do I use the RC 1200 Ottimo for the first time?
Before first use, clean the grill plate, pans and shovels with warm water and mild detergent. Then heat the appliance at maximum power without pans for about 10 minutes to burn in the protective layer. A small amount of smoke and smell is normal. After cooling, lightly grease the grill plate with oil or bacon fat for easier release.
Can I use metal utensils on the grill plate?
No, metal utensils can damage the non-stick coating. Use wooden or plastic utensils only. Avoid contact with hot areas for prolonged periods.
Is the appliance dishwasher safe?
The manual does not specify dishwasher safety. It recommends cleaning the grill plate, pans and shovels in lukewarm water with mild detergent. Do not immerse the appliance, cable or plug in water, and do not use a steam cleaner.
What should I do if the appliance stops working?
First, check that the power cord is properly plugged into a grounded outlet. Ensure the outlet is functional. If the problem persists, do not attempt to repair yourself. Contact a qualified professional or Rommelsbacher service for inspection.
How do I prevent food from sticking to the pans?
The pans have a non-stick coating, so sticking is minimal. For first use, lightly grease the pans. Avoid using metal utensils which can scratch the coating. Also, ensure the pans are not overheated without food.
Can I leave the appliance unattended while it's on?
No, never leave the appliance unattended during operation. It can become very hot and pose a fire hazard. Always supervise the appliance, especially when cooking with oil or fatty foods.
What type of food can I cook on the RC 1200 Ottimo?
You can grill meat, vegetables, fish, and of course melt cheese for raclette. For best results, use small, tender pieces of meat. Vegetables and fish also work well. Avoid over-seasoning before grilling as spices may burn.
How do I clean the heating element?
Always unplug the appliance and let it cool completely. Wipe the heating element with a damp cloth only. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse in water. Ensure no moisture enters the housing.
Why does my appliance produce smoke when grilling?
Smoke can be caused by food juices or marinades dripping onto the heating element. To reduce smoke, use non-marinated meat and offer sauces on the side. Also, avoid overfilling the pans. Some initial smoke during first use is normal due to protective coating burn-in.
Can I use aluminum foil on the grill plate?
The manual does not recommend using aluminum foil. It may interfere with heat distribution and damage the non-stick coating. Use the grill plate directly for best results.

Oil lean meat slightly before grilling. The best results are achieved with small and tender pieces of meat.

Sausages should be pierced before grilling so that they do not burst.

Spices and marinades might generate smoke when grilling. To avoid this you may use non-seasoned/non-marinated raw meat and rather offer seasoning mixtures and barbecue sauces as side dish.
