How do I make Turkish tea with this kettle?

Fill the kettle with water (observe min/max marks), set to Boil, place tea filter with 1/3 full of Turkish tea in the teapot, and place teapot on kettle. When boiled, fill teapot with hot water, refill kettle, and reboil. Let steep for at least 20 minutes. Mix tea and water to taste.

What does the illuminated ring indicate?

The illuminated ring lights up while the water is boiling and goes out as soon as the water has boiled. It does not light during the keep warm function; instead, the indicator light comes on.

How do I descale the kettle?

Fill the kettle to the max mark with water, bring to a boil, then add a little household vinegar or a commercial descaler. Leave to react for several hours. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water. Do not use hard implements to remove scale.

What should I do if the kettle stops heating?

The overheating protection may have activated. Switch off the kettle, unplug it, and allow it to cool down. Then it can be switched on again. If the problem persists, contact customer service.

Can I use the kettle without the lid?

No. The lid must always be attached when using the kettle. Operating without the lid may cause the kettle not to switch to keep warm automatically and poses a safety risk.

Is the teapot dishwasher safe?

Yes, the teapot, lid for teapot, and tea filter are all dishwasher-safe. The kettle itself must not be immersed in water or cleaned in a dishwasher.

What is the correct way to pour tea from the teapot?

When pouring tea, press the teapot lid forwards with your thumb to prevent the filter from slipping. This ensures a controlled pour.

What should I do if the power cord is damaged?

To prevent injury, repairs such as replacing a damaged power cord must be carried out by our customer service only. Do not use the appliance until repaired.

Can children use this appliance?

This appliance can be used by children aged 8 years and above if supervised. Children under 8 must be kept away from the appliance and cable. Children shall not play with the appliance.

What is the energy-saving feature?

The keep warm function keeps the water and tea warm after boiling, using up to 90% less energy than reheating from cold. This feature is activated automatically after boiling.

Please read, follow and retain the operating instructions!

When passing on the appliance, enclose these instructions.

This appliance is designed for processing normal household quantities in the home or similar quantities in non-industrial applications.

Non-industrial applications include e.g. use in employee kitchens in shops, offices, agricultural and other commercial businesses, as well as use by guests in boarding houses, small hotels and similar dwellings.

Risk of electric shock!

Connect and operate the appliance only in accordance with the specifications on the rating plate.

To prevent injury, repairs to the appliance, such as replacing a damaged power cord, should be carried out by our customer service only.

This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and if they understand the hazards involved. Keep children under 8 years of age away from the appliance and connecting cable and do not allow them to use the appliance. Children shall not play with the appliance.

Cleaning and descaling shall not be made by children unless they are older than 8 years and supervised.

Never immerse the appliance, base or power cord in water.

Use the water jug with the enclosed base only.

While the appliance is on, the temperature of the exposed surface may be very hot. Do not use the appliance if the power cord and/or appliance are damaged. If there is a fault, pull out the mains plug immediately or switch off the power supply.

Risk of fire!

Do not place the base, water jug or teapot on or near hot surfaces, e.g. cooker plates.

Risk of scalding!

The tea maker is hot during operation and for some time afterwards. Therefore take hold of the tea maker by the handles only and do not open the lid until the tea maker is cold. Use appliance only with lid attached.

Do not use this appliance near bathtubs, basins or other vessels containing water.

Risk of suffocation!

Do not let children play with packaging material.

Important

• Use kettle 2 only with base 1 which is marked with type WK5.
• Fill the kettle 2 with water only. Milk or instant products will burn and damage the appliance.

• Do not operate the kettle 2 without water or overfill, observe min and max marks (Fig. 5a).

• Use the kettle 2 with attached teapot 4 or lid7only, otherwise the kettle will not switch automatically to keep warm ⚠.

• If the kettle is not being used, always switch off with the switch 10 or unplug.

Before using your appliance for the first time

• Unwind the power cord to the required length and plug in.
• Fill the kettle 2 with fresh water, attach the lid 7 and place on the base 1.
• Switch on the appliance by pressing down switch 10 (Fig. 2).
  Set the selection button 8 to Boil ⚠ (Fig. 3).
  When the water has boiled, the selection button 8 automatically switches to Warm ⚠ (Fig. 4).
  Info: The illuminated ring 11 comes on while the water is boiling and goes out as soon as the water has boiled. The indicator light 9 comes on during the warming function only.
• Repeat the process twice in order to clean the kettle.
• Rinse the teapot 4 with lid 6 and tea filter 5.

The preparation of Turkish tea is described here. Other types of tea may become bitter due to the long steeping time.

• Fill the kettle 2 with water, observe min and max mark.
• Place the kettle 2 on the base 1 and set the selection button 8 to Boil 🔊.
• Fill the tea filter 5 approx. 13 full of Turkish tea and insert into the teapot 4.
• Place the teapot 4 on the kettle 2. Switch on the appliance by pressing down switch 10. The illuminated ring lights up.
• As soon as the water has boiled, the selection button 8 automatically switches to Keep warm ⚠. The indicator light 9 lights up.
• Now fill the teapot 4 with the hot water and refill the kettle 2 with fresh water.
• Place the teapot 4 on the kettle 2 and the kettle on the base 1. Set the selection switch 8 to Boil!
• As soon as the water has boiled, the selection button 8 automatically switches to Keep warm ⚠.
• Now the tea from the teapot 4 can be mixed with the hot water from the kettle 2 according to taste.

When pouring out tea, press the teapot lid forwards with your thumb.

Info: The water and the tea are kept warm by setting the switch to ⚠.

This saves up to 90% energy. If the kettle 2 is refilled with fresh water, first bring the water to the boil and then keep warm.

Tips

• Pour the Turkish tea into the tea filter 5 and briefly rinse with hot running water. This will remove dust residue from the tea and improve the taste.
• The Turkish tea should be left to steep for at least 20 min. in order to extract the full flavour.
• Always use up the tea extract in the tea-pot 4, do not refill with water.

Boiling the water

Only water can be heated with the kettle 2. The lid 7 must always be attached.

• Fill the kettle 2 with water, observe min and max mark.
• Set the selection button 8 to Boil ⚠️ and switch on with the switch 10. The illuminated ring 11 lights up
• As soon as the water has boiled, the selection button 8 automatically switches to Keep warm ⚠. The indicator light 9 lights up.
• If the water is not to be kept warm, switch off the kettle 2 with the switch 10.

Cleaning and descaling

Risk of electric shock!

Before cleaning the appliance, pull out the mains plug. Never immerse the appliance in water or clean in the dishwasher.

Do not use a steam cleaner.

• Wipe the outside of the appliance with a damp cloth only. Do not use sharp or abrasive detergents.
• Descale the water jug 2 with vinegar or a commercially available descaler.
• Fill jug 2 with water up to the max mark and bring to the boil. Then switch off the appliance, add a little household vinegar and leave to react for several hours. Or use descaler according to the manufacturer's instructions.
• Then rinse the water jug 2 and calcification filter 3 with fresh water.

Attention: Never remove calcification residue with hard implements, otherwise the seal will be damaged.

Eliminating minor faults yourself

The appliance is not heating or warming up. The illuminated ring 11 or the indicator light 9 does not come on. → The overheating protection system has actuated.

• Switch off the kettle 2 with the switch 10 and leave to cool down.
  Then the appliance can be switched on again.
