Frequently Asked Questions - RTL265WHA NORDMENDE

How do I adjust the temperature on my Nordmende RTL265WHA fridge?
The temperature is controlled by a mechanical thermostat inside the fridge compartment. Turn the dial to a higher number for colder temperature. Typically, setting 3-4 is recommended for normal use.
What is the recommended temperature for the refrigerator and freezer?
For the refrigerator, set the thermostat to maintain +4°C to +5°C. The freezer compartment keeps food at -18°C or below, suitable for long-term storage.
How do I defrost the freezer?
The freezer requires manual defrosting. Unplug the fridge, remove all food, and leave the door open. Place towels to absorb melting water. Do not use sharp objects to remove ice.
Why is my fridge making noise?
Normal sounds include the compressor humming, refrigerant flowing (gurgling), and fans (if equipped). If it is excessively loud, check that it is level, not touching walls, and that the condenser fan is clear.
How do I reverse the door opening direction?
The door is reversible. Unscrew the hinges on the current side, remove the door, and reattach the hinges on the opposite side using the pre-drilled holes. See the manual for steps.
What should I do if the fridge stops cooling?
Check power supply and thermostat setting. Ensure the condenser coils at the back are clean. If still not cooling, the compressor or gas may be faulty; contact a technician.
How can I save energy with this fridge?
Place the fridge away from heat sources, keep the doors closed, avoid overfilling, and ensure the door seals are intact. Defrost regularly to maintain efficiency.
What does the 'E' energy class mean?
Energy class E (EU 2010 scale) indicates moderate energy consumption. It uses about 235 kWh per year, which is typical for a fridge of this size.
How often should I clean the condenser coils?
Clean the condenser coils at the back every 6 months using a vacuum cleaner or soft brush. This helps maintain cooling performance and energy efficiency.
Can I leave the fridge on when I go on vacation?
Yes, if you leave food. Otherwise, you can empty and defrost, then leave the door ajar to prevent mold. For short vacations, it is fine to leave it on with minimal food.

CHAPTER 5. BEFORE CALLING SERVICE

If your refrigerator is not working properly, it may be a minor problem, therefore check the following, before calling an electrician to save time and money.

What to do if your refrigerator does not operate ;

Check that ;

  • There is no power,
    • The general switch in your home is not disconnected,
  • The thermostat setting is on « 0 » position,
  • The socket is not sufficient. To check this, plug in another appliance that you know which is working into the same socket.

What to do if your refrigerator performs poorly ;

  • You have not overloaded the appliance,
    • The doors are closed perfectly,
  • There is no dust on the condenser,
  • There is enough place at the rear and side walls.

If there is noise ;

The cooling gas which circulates in the refrigerator circuit may make a slight noise(bubbling sound) even when the compressor is not running. Do not worry this is quite normal. If these sounds are different check that ;

• The appliance is well levelled,
- Nothing is touching the rear,
- The stuffs on the appliance are vibrating.

If there is water in the lower part of the refrigerator

Check that ;

The drain hole for defrost water is not clogged(Use defrost drain plug to clean the drain hole)

If your fridge is not cooling enough;

Your fridge is designed to operate in the ambient temperature intervals stated in the standards, according to the climate class stated in the information label. We do not recommend operating your fridge out of stated temperatures value limits in terms of cooling effectiveness.

Climate ClassAmbient Temperature (°C)
T Between 16 and 43 (°C)
ST Between 16 and 38 (°C)
N Between 16 and 32 (°C)
SN Between 10 and 32 (°C)

Recommendations

  • In order to increase space and improve the appearance, the « cooling section »
    of refrigerators is positioned inside the back wall of the refrigerator compartment. When the appliance is running, this wall is covered with frost or water drops, when the compressor is running. Do not worry. This is quite normal. The appliance should be defrosted only if an excessively thick ice layer forms on the back wall.
  • If the appliance is not used for a long time (for example during the summer holidays). Set the thermostat knob to « 0 » position. Defrost and clean the refrigerator leaving the door open to prevent the formation of mildew and smell.
