Maintenance
To enjoy your Canton loudspeakers as long, as possible you have to consider the following:

Choose a level surface Avoid moisture Avoid vibrations

Avoid direct sunlight

Protect against extreme cold

Do not open the housing

Keep away from heat sources

Do not use aggressive alcohol-based or abrasive cleaning agents

General instructions for operation
Canton loudspeakers are suitable for operation with amplifiers producing large power output, even if the amplifier power output is greater than the load ratings specified in the technical data for the Canton loudspeakers. Infact loudspeakers are more endangered by amplifiers with weak output power because the socialised "clipping distortion" they produce when attempting to produce more sound pressure by turning-up the volume and tone controls boosts the mean power especially in the tweezers of the speaker boxes and may destroy the tweezers. Therefore please pay attention not to set volume levels leading to distortion - turn down the volume level directly when necessary.
Caution:
Floorstanding speakers have a high center of gravity and may become unstable if rocked or improperly positioned. Customer is responsible to prevent any accident.
Running-in period
To reach its maximum efficiency a loudspeaker needs a running-in period of approx. 15-20 operation hours. In this time the characteristics of all mechanical parts change until they reach the values specified during the development of the loudspeaker, i.e. the suspension of the chassis is affected more mobile and the rendition quality positively.
Connecting the speakers
You will find the connector terminal on the rear of your Canton speakers. This terminal is provided for connecting the Canton speakers to the amplifier. Important!
Make sure that the polarity is correct. Plus to plus and minus to minus. In order to make it easier to distinguish plus (+) from minus (-) the screwclamps on the back of the loudspeaker (plus = red, minus = black) as well as the screwclamps of your amplifier or receiver differ in color or are marked with a symbol. Also the two conductors of the loudspeaker cable differ in color, form or marking. Different polarity between the left and the right channel lead to sound falsifications.
For a better understanding please check the operating instructions of your controller.
Important!
Switch-off your amplifier before connecting the speakers to it.
Bi-wiring/bi-amping-terminal
The loudspeakers of The Reference X series are equipped such that you can connect the tweeter/midrange chassis and the woofer chassis separately to two respective amplifiers (bi-amping), or at least via two separate connecting cables (bi-wiring). For this purpose these speakers are filled with a dual terminal set. The upper pair of sockets is intended for the treble/midrange frequencies, and the bottom pair for bass frequencies. These two terminal pairs have been linked with jumpers in the factory for normal operation with a single connecting cable.
Remove the jumpercables for bi-wiring operating mode and bi-amping operating mode, otherwise the connected amplifiers might be damaged. For this purpose, release the terminal screws and remove the jumpercables.

Bi-wiring Bi-amping

Connector terminal Reference 1 K and 3 K
To eliminate interference as much as possible, the crossovers in Reference loudspeakers are split into high/midrange and bass units and physically separated. The high-quality internal wiring with a gold-plated bi-wiring/bi-amping terminal ensures optimal signal transmission.
In addition, tweeter and midrange adjustment makes it possible for the Reference 1 K and 3 K to be perfectly attuned to the acoustic conditions in the room where it is positioned. You can adjust the midrange or the tweeter by changing the position of the metal bridges. Therefore loosen the screws and move the metal bridges in the desired position.

By rising or lowering the midrange level the balance of the sound reproduction can be optimize. Voices should sound natural and feel real.

Positioning the speakers
The Reference needs a wall distance from 20 centimeter (7.9 inch) to 1 meter (3 feet) and an angle of 0° to 5° inwards. Decide for yourself which position pleases you best.
The "stered Triangle" is a good rule of guidance for optimum positioning of your new Canton speakers (Fig. 1). This means that the best performance is usually obtained when the two speakers and your favourite listening position lies at the corners of an equilateral triangle. For decoupling the speakers from the licor your Reference K are provided with adjustable feet (Fig. 2). Those can be screwed in the tapped holes in the base plate. Self-adhesive rubber pads can be used in addition if desired (Fig. 3).
Responsible for the system's exceptional acoustic perfection are the use of top-quality electronic components and the innovative design of the crossover network. To suppress feedback effects, the crossover network has been mounted so as to be insulated against vibrations.
Premium-quality components are used exclusively. Likewise integrated into the crossover network is the DC technology developed by Canton, which suppresses subsonic vibrations of the woofer and delivers bass lones that are perceptibly lauler and more precise.
The cabinets of the Reference IC series have a complex design, formed from multiple layers of wood, glued together with heat and pressure. This multilayer sandwich construction creates a very stiff cabinet, preventing unwanted cabinet resonance.
The heart of the Reference tweeter is the shape optimized cone made out of aluminum-oxycd-ceramic. Centered in the Tweeter's transmission front plate, Canton is significantly improving tweeter performance. The new integrated waveguide extends the useable frequency bandwidth to 40,000 Hz. The extended frequency response is particularly beneficial with high-resolution formats such as SACD and DVD-Audio.
The cone of the midrange driver has a also special shape (Triple Curved Cone) and is anodized. Material resonances, which lead inevitably to a higher distortion factor, are almost completely eliminated thereby.

Canton's new developed wave surround is used with the Reference midrange and woofer systems. This unique, multi-curved wave shape doubles the excursion capabilities and reduces resonance of our midrange and woofers for better frequency response and higher output levels – with lower distortion.
In addition to cutting edge technology, the Reference features a modern design, with the finest materials and first-class craftsmanship of the enclosure documenting Canton's perfectionist credentials.
The Reference K excels on its natural and utterly authentic acoustic image. A vital factor for balance of the sound image is the harmonious symbiosis of transparent highs, lively midranges and an absolutely precise, impressive bass.
Also characteristic of this high-end speaker is that the bass range retains its contour even at extreme listening levels with no signs of distortion whatsoever, right down into the lowest frequencies.
Midrange system Bass-Guide

The triple-curved cone membrane of the midrange speaker with its ceramic-tungsten structure represents an optimum design standard. Together with the new, triple-d-fielded wave surround, it gives extreme rigidity and excellent balance in terms of the swing-in and swing-out behaviour through to the highest frequencies.

natural_image
Black plastic tray with two curved sides, no text or symbols visibleThe perfect isolation of the cabinet from its base and the down-firing design of the bass reflex port in combination with the new Bass-Guide ^® make the loudspeaker very versatile when it comes to room placement.
Dispersion Innovative woofer

natural_image
3D structural diagram of a curved layered structure with color-coded grid layers (no text or symbols)With the aid of computer simulations, the tweeler dispersion is improved with the precise shaping of the transmission front plate.

The ceramic-lungsten cone, motor system and the wave surround of the reference woofers are totally new. This technology offers considerable advantages over conventional membrane suspensions. These new drivers offer higher output levels at even lower levels of distortion.

Interior of an anechoic chamber with a speaker emitting three speakers and a seated man crouching beside it (no visible text or symbols)*Always room for improvement* is more than just a cliche for us - it is the consistent transformation of pure music. We want to offer our customers the very best at all stages.
To do this, our experienced development learn uses the most technologically advanced simulation technologies and measuring systems. We use our anechoic chamber to put our ideas to the acid test.
Music is more than a combination of sounds and audio. It is a complete work with its own distinct character – created for the moment.
Technology has made it possible to record and replay music in many formats, but the true character and magic of music is often overlooked.
The loudspeakers in the Reference K series restore some of music's magic, bringing you closer to a live experience – goose bumps and all.
The design of loudspeakers crosses many borders. They operate in electronic, mechanical and acoustic dimensions, as well as meet visual requirements. The process involved in developing the Reference K loudspeakers was initially analytical. Using computer simulations and scientific analysis, each individual component was isolated, examined and optimized for overall performance.
The result produced a prototype. Then the process of fine tuning began. Counless test listening sessions were held, and necessary adjustments to components were made until the loudspeakers were able to stand up to rigorous scrutiny.
The cabinet design of the loudspeakers was also developed at the same time. The Reference K series requires compatible cabinet design as well as stateof-the-art production procedures, some of which are used in the manufacturing of instruments.
