  1. Read Instructions - All the safety and operating instructions should be read before the appliance is operated.
  2. Retain Instructions - The safety and operating instructions should be retained for future reference.
  3. Heed Warnings - All warnings on the appliance and in the operating instructions should be adhered to.
  4. Water and Moisture – Do not use the apparatus near water (e.g. bath tub, sink, swimming pool) or in wet places or tropical climates. Do not place objects filled with liquids, such as vases, on top of the apparatus. Do not expose the apparatus to dripping or splashing.
  5. Setup – The apparatus should only be placed on a stable, flat surface. Do not let the apparatus fall down or expose it to shock.
  6. Wall or Ceiling Mounting - The appliance should be mounted to a wall or ceiling only as recommended by the manufacturer.
  7. Ventilation - The appliance should be situated so that its location or position does not interfere with its proper ventilation. Power Supply

Power Adaptor

  1. The unit requires DC 6V = 0.5A.
  2. Plug the supplied adaptor cable into the DC input socket of the unit and the other end into a suitable wall socket.
  3. Make sure that the output power of the wall outlet matches the required power of the

adaptor.

Note:

- If not using the unit for a longer period of time, unplug the adaptor from the wall outlet and from the unit.

Battery Power

  1. Ensure that the AC/DC adaptor is disconnected from the radio and the mains power supply.
  2. Insert 4x 1.5V size UM-3/AA batteries into the battery compartment. Be sure that the batteries are inserted correctly to avoid damage to the appliance. Always remove the batteries when the appliance will not be used for a long period of time, as this will cause leakage to the batteries and subsequently damage to your set.

Note:

  • Use batteries of the same type. Never use different types of batteries together.
  • To use the appliance with batteries, disconnect the power adaptor from it.

Basic Functions

Switching the Unit On & Off

  1. Power the unit as described above.
  2. The unit is now in standby mode.
  3. To switch the unit on, press the STANDBY button once.
  4. To switch the unit off into standby mode, press the STANDBY button again.

Display Backlight

When the radio is in AC mode, the display backlight will be at full brightness all the time when the unit is switched on and dimmed when the unit is in standby mode.

When the radio is in DC battery operation, the display backlight will be turned on to full brightness for around 10 seconds and then go to dim. It will then be turned on to full brightness again for 10 seconds on every key press. In standby mode, the radio and display backlight will be turned off.

Mode Selection (Switching Between DAB+ and FM)

- With the unit switched on, press the MODE button to switch between DAB+ and FM mode.

Volume Control

  • To increase the volume, press the VOLUME+ button.
    • To decrease the volume, press the VOLUME-button.

The following controls are used to navigate the menu tree to choose and select the required settings:

  • Press and hold for 2 seconds the MENU/INFO button while the unit is in DAB+ or FM mode to enter the main menu.
  • Press the SELECT button to enter sub-menus or items and to confirm settings.
    • To exit the menu or go back inside the menu, repeatedly press the MENU/INFO button.

• Current or default values are indicated by an asterisk (*) on the right-hand side of the top

line of the character display.

Clock Setting

The clock in this radio is equipped to receive a DAB radio frequency and RDS time signal. After the unit has been turned on, it will automatically tune into a DAB radio station (see below) and update the clock. It may be necessary to wait for 1-2 minutes to allow the unit to receive the time signal. If there is no DAB or FM-RDS reception it will be necessary to manually set the clock.

To manually set the clock:

  1. Power the unit as described above.
  2. The display backlight will illuminate for a few seconds, a welcome message (F.1) will appear in the display briefly followed by "00:00:00 Time is not set".

  3. Switch the unit on by pressing the STANDBY button.

  4. Press and hold for 2 seconds the MENU/INFO button to enter the menu. Select "System" by pressing the TUN/CH▲ or TUN/CH▼ button. Once "System" is displayed, press the SELECT button to enter the system settings.

  5. In the system settings select "Time" by pressing the TUN/CH▲ or TUN/CH▼ button.

Once "Time" is displayed, press the SELECT button to enter the time menu and select "<Set Time /Date)". Press the SELECT button again to enter the time setting.

  1. The hours are flashing. Set the current hour by pressing the TUN/CH▲ or TUN/CH▼ button. Confirm by pressing the SELECT button.
  2. The minutes are flashing. Set the current minute by pressing the TUN/CH▲ or TUN/CH▼ button. Confirm by pressing the SELECT button.
  3. In the next step the date must be set. Set day, month and year by pressing the TUN/CH▲ or TUN/CH▼ button. Confirm each setting by pressing the SELECT button.
  4. Once the year has been set and confirmed by pressing the SELECT button, "Time Saved" will be shown in the display.
  5. You can now exit the menu by repeatedly pressing the MENU/INFO button or switching the unit into standby mode by pressing the STANDBY button.

DAB+ Radio

First Use and Operation

  • Press the STANDBY button to turn the radio on. When switching the radio on for the first time it will automatically enter DAB+ mode and perform the auto scan function to search for available radio stations.
  • During the scan the display shows "Scanning..." together with a slide bar that indicates the progress of the scan and the number of stations that have been found so far (F.1, F.2).
  • Once the scan is finished the radio will select and play the first alphanumerically found station.
    • You can now press the TUN/CH▲ or TUN/CH▼ button to explore the found stations followed by pressing the SELECT button to play the selected station.

Note:

- If there are no stations found after auto scan, the radio will enter the Tune/Select menu. In this menu you can chose to do full scan or manual tuning.

DAB Auto Scan

The auto scan will search for the entire DAB Band III channels. After the scan has finnished, the first alphanumerically found stations will be automatically selected.

  1. To activate auto scan, press and hold the

MENU/INFO button for 2 seconds to enter the menu and then press the TUN/CH▲ or TUN/CH▼ button to select "Full scan". Finally press the SELECT button to confirm. The display will show "Scanning..." and a slide bar (F.3).

automatically. To explore the stations that have been found, press the TUN/CH▲ or TUN/CH▼ button and when you find a station that you would like to listen to, press the SELECT button.

DAB Manual Tuning

  1. To select manual tune, press and hold the MENU/INFO button for 2 seconds to enter the menu, then press the TUN/CH▲ or TUN/CH▼ button to select "Manual tune" (F.4, F.5).
  2. Press TUN/CH▲ or TUN/CH▼ button to move through the DAB channels, the display will show "5A to 13F" and their associated frequencies.
  3. When your desired frequency appears in the display, press the SELECT button to listen, the name of the station group (ensemble/multiplex) will be displayed.

Prune

You can remove all unavailable stations from the list:

  1. In DAB mode press and hold the MENU/INFO button for 2 seconds to enter the menu, then press the TUN/CH▲ or TUN/CH▼ button to select "Prune" and finally press the SELECT button to confirm.
  2. Press the TUN/CH▲ or TUN/CH▼ button to select to confirm to delete. Or select to cancel. Press the SELECT button to confirm the setting.

DAB Display Modes

Every time you press the MENU/INFO button the display will cycle through the following display modes:

Signal strength, Programme Type, Ensemble Name, Channel number/frequency, Signal error, Bit Rate, codec/DAB variant, power status (Mains/Battery), Time and Date.

FM Radio

  1. Press the STANDBY button to switch on the radio.
  2. Press the MODE button to switch to FM mode. The display will show the frequency.
  3. To automatically search for the next available radio station, press and hold for 2 seconds the TUN/CH▲ or TUN/CH▼ button. The display will show "Scanning..." and it will stop automatically once a station has been found (F.6, F7).
  4. To manually search for a station, press the TUN/CH▲ or TUN/CH▼ button repeatedly. Each press adjusts the frequency by 0.05 MHz.

Note:

- To improve the reception, fully extend the antenna and adjust its position, or try moving the radio to another location.

Scan Setting

This function enables you to search only for stations with strong reception or for all stations during automatic tuning.

  1. During FM mode, press and hold the MENU/INFO button for 2 seconds to enter the menu and then press the TUN/CH▲ or TUN/CH▼ button to select "Scan setting". Finally press the SELECT button to confirm.
  2. Press the TUN/CH▲ or TUN/CH▼ button to select "Strong stations". Press the SELECT button to confirm the setting. With this setting active, only strong stations will be found during automatic tuning. To find all stations, also those with inferior reception, select "All stations".

Audio Setting

  1. During FM mode, press and hold the MENU/INFO button for 2 seconds to enter the menu and then press the TUN/CH▲ or TUN/CH▼ button to select "Audio setting". Finally press the SELECT button to confirm.
  2. Press the TUN/CH▲ or TUN/CH▼ button to select between "Stereo allowed" and "Forced mono". Press the SELECT button to confirm the setting.

Note:

- The radio will automatically switch between stereo and mono mode, but you can override this and switch this function manually which is helpful for poor signal reception.

FM Display Modes

Every time you press the MENU/INFO button, the display will cycle through the following display modes:

RDS Radio Text, Programme Type, Frequency, Mono/Stereo, Power status (Mains/Battery), Time and Date.

Storing and Recalling Stored Stations

This function allows up to 10 stations to be programmed into the memory and stored in both DAB and FM mode.

  1. To store a preset, first tune to your desired station, then press and hold the PRESET button for 2 seconds. The display will show the preset store number (F.8).
  2. Press the TUN/CH▲ or TUN/CH▼ button to select your desired station preset number.
  3. Press the SELECT button to confirm your selection. The station currently broadcasting has now been stored in the selected location (F.9).

be displayed in the lower half of the display (F.10). If the preset has not been allocated "Preset Recall #: (Empty)" and then "Preset empty" will be shown in the display.

Note:

- If the unit is disconnected from the mains supply for any length of time and the batteries are not installed, the programmed stations will be lost.

Factory Reset

If moving the radio to another location in the country the pre-tuned and stored DAB stations may no longer be available and it will be necessary to reset the radio back to the factory settings.

  1. Connect the radio to AC mains (via AC/DC adaptor), then press STANDBY to turn the radio on.
  2. Press and hold the MENU/INFO button for 2 seconds to enter the menu, then press the TUN/CH▲ or TUN/CH▼ button to select "System". Press the SELECT button to enter the system menu.
  3. Press the TUN/CH▲ or TUN/CH▼ button to select "<Factory Reset)". Press the SELECT button to confirm (F.11)
  4. The display now shows "Factory Reset Yes". Press the TUN/CH▲ or TUN/CH▼ button to select "" and then press the SELECT button again (F.12) to do the factory reset.
  5. The radio will display "Restarting...." and will then go into standby mode.

Note:

- All stored programmed stations will be lost during reset.

Headphone Jack

A headphone jack is located at right side of the unit. When the unit is powered on and playing music, you can connect earphones (not included) to the headphone jack for your private listening. Mind the safety information from page 14 on.

With headphones connected the unit's speaker is disabled. To listen via the speaker again, disconnect the headphones.
