Frequently Asked Questions - EBK 965 BOMANN

How do I turn on the induction hob?
Press the On/Off button. All displays show '-' or '--'. If no function is selected within one minute, the appliance switches off automatically.
Why does the display show 'L'?
The 'L' indicates that no suitable cookware is detected or the cookware is too small. Place a ferrous pan with a diameter of at least 140 mm on the zone. If not placed within one minute, the hob goes to standby.
How do I set the timer to automatically turn off a cooking zone?
Select the cooking zone, set the power level, then press the Timer button. The display flashes '10'. Adjust time from 1 to 99 minutes using + or -. After a few seconds, the time is set. When time expires, the zone turns off and a beep sounds.
How do I use the timer as a minute minder without turning off a zone?
Press the Timer button without selecting a cooking zone. The display flashes '-'. Set the time as usual. The timer counts down but does not affect the cooking zones. At the end, a beep sounds and '--' appears.
How do I activate the child lock?
Press the Child lock button. The display shows 'Lo'. All buttons except On/Off are disabled. To unlock, press and hold the Child lock button for a few seconds while the hob is on.
What cookware is suitable for induction cooking?
Use cookware with a ferrous (magnetic) bottom and a diameter of at least 140 mm. It must have a flat base. Test: if the zone shows a power setting, it's suitable; if 'U' appears, it's not.
How do I clean the glass ceramic surface?
Allow the hob to cool. For light dirt, use a damp sponge and dry. For tougher residue, use a special glass ceramic cleaner or a scraper for sugar/molten plastic. Never use abrasive cleaners or sharp objects.
What does the error code 'E3/E4' mean?
E3/E4 indicates overheating. Check the pot and allow the hob to cool. If the issue persists, contact a specialist.
Why is there a humming noise during cooking?
A quiet humming is normal for induction technology due to magnetic fields, especially at high power. It usually disappears when the power is reduced. This is not a fault.
What are the required clearances for installation?
The worktop must be at least 3 cm thick and 62 cm deep. Minimum free space: 5 cm below the cut-out, 3 cm from the sides, and 1 cm for air exit. The hob should not be directly next to refrigerators/freezers.

Description of the functions

Functional principle

When cooking with induction, the heat will only be created with magnetic force when cookware with a magnetizable bottom is placed onto a cooking zone which is turned on. Only the bottom of the cookware is thereby heated, but not the cooking zone itself.

Benefits:

- time savings

- energy-saving

- easy cleaning

- controlled heat supply and safety

Pot detection

The heating function is interrupted, if:

• cookware of unsuitable size,
• of non-magnetic material (e.g. aluminum),
• or a small object (e.g. knife, fork, and bowl) is placed onto the cooling area or
• the cookware was removed.

The notification "L" will flash on the display of the respective cooking zone. If suitable cookware is not placed onto the respective zone within a minute, the appliance will switch to standby mode. After around another minute, the appliance will switch off automatically.

Overheating protection

A temperature sensor monitors the inside of the appliance. If the maximum temperature is exceeded, the appliance is automatically shut off to prevent damage.

Residual heat display

After shutting off the appliance, the display of the respective cooking zones shows the symbol "H" (Residual heat). This gives a warning not to touch the zone.

BOMANN EBK 965 - Residual heat display - 1

WARNING: Risk of burning!

Do not touch the cooking zones as long as the residual heat indicator is on.

Automatic switch-off

The automatic switch-off is a protective function for your appliance. If a stovetop is in operation for a long period and if you do not enter anything on the control panel, the automatic switch-off will be activated. For the standard times of the different power settings, please refer to the following table:

Power setting 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Shut-off time (hours) 8 8 8 4 4 42 2 2

Child lock

The appliance is equipped with a child lock to prevent children from turning on the appliance accidentally.

Installation / Fitting

△ CAUTION:

• The stovetop has to be installed so that the heat can be dissipated. Air intake and outlet may not be blocked.
• The worktop, back walls, veneers, laminates, and adhesives used must be sufficiently heat-resistant (up to 100°C).

Conditions for the installation location

• The appliance may only be installed on one side next to higher kitchen furniture, appliances, or walls.
- The appliance should not be installed directly next to refrigerators or freezers. Due to the heat dissipation, the energy consumption of the cooling appliances will increase unnecessarily.
- At least 5 cm free space must remain under the entire cut-out for the appliance. Heat-sensitive objects (base cabinet, drawer, etc.) may not be located in this area. Possibly existing side-walls or drawer cabinets must be cut out, or disassembled accordingly.
- When installing the device, ensure sufficient air circulation "Fig. 1".

Preparing the worktop for installation of the hob

  • The worktop must be at least 3 cm thick and at least 62 cm deep. It must lie horizontally and must be sealed off against overflowing liquids on the wall side.
    • The hob must be framed by at least 5 cm of worktop.
    • The cut surfaces (cutout edges) must be sealed with special varnish, silicone rubber, or cast raisin in order to prevent swelling caused by humidity.
  • Clean the cutout area of the worktop.

Prepare the cutout of the worktop using the dimensional drawing in "Fig. 2".

i NOTE:

Prior to sawing, stick a wide adhesive tape onto the outer edge of the cut-out to prevent jigsaw marks on the worktop.

Attach the sealing to the bottom of the hob frame before installing the hob.

Installing the hob

  • Check the hob sealing for any damage and for correct positioning on the hob.
  • Attach the hob to the worktop bottom using the four brackets and screws provided "Fig 3". For that place the hob with the glass side onto an even surface. Avoid scratches! Place a cushioned support beneath it. Position and adjust the brackets depending on the thickness of the worktop.
  • Place the hob with the cable first into the prepared cutout of the worktop. The appliance must be inserted into the cut-out with the control panel towards the front. Ensure that the distances to the cut-out are the same on all four sides.

Troubleshooting

The design of the appliance ensures a trouble-free operation and a long lifetime. If a malfunction stills occurs, then check if these may be the result of an operating error.

Error Possible cause Remedy
The cooking hob cannot be turned on.The power supply has been interrupted.- check the circuit breaker of the appliance.- Using another electrical appliance, check whether there is a problem with the power supply.
The buttons are no longer reacting. The child lock is active.- Unlock the control panel.
The buttons react very poorly during contact. The button surface is damp. You are touching the button surface with your finger tips.- Ensure that the area of the button is dry and - that you use the tip of your finger for the operation.
The glass surface is scratched. You are using rough, uneven cookware and/or an aggressive abrasive cleaner or sharp metal utensils.- Only use cookware with an even bottom, see “Selecting the right cookware”.- See “Cleaning”
A quiet humming is heard when a high power setting is selected. That is caused by the induction technology. This does not refer to any error. The noise should disappear as soon as the power setting has been reduced.
Ventilation noises can be heard. The appliance has a filter to prevent overheating of the electronics. The fan will still continue to run for a few seconds after the appliance has been shut off. This does not refer to any error. Do not switch off the power supply while the fan is running.
Cookware doesn’t get hot. The appliance cannot recognize the cookware. The cookware is not suitable for induction, is too small for the cooking zone or is not centered on the cooking zone.- Use cookware suitable for induction, see “Selecting the right cookware”.- Ensure that the cookware fits onto the cooking zone and that it is centered.
Some pans make cracking or clicking noises. This may be caused by the construction of your cookware (layers of different metals vibrating differently). This is normal for cookware and does not indicate a fault.
