Before using the appliance, the user should read the following instructions carefully.

Connection to the mains supply

The appliance should only be connected to an earthed socket installed in accordance with the regulations. Make sure that the supply voltage corresponds with the voltage marked on the rating label. Th is product complies with all binding CE labelling directives.

Application

The coffee maker is designed for brewing coffee. It is intended to brew average domestic quantities of coffee and is not designed for commercial applications.

Important safety instructions

Danger for children and persons with reduced capabilities to operate such appliances

- This appliance is not intended for use by any person (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lacking experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.

Danger from electric shock

Warning - danger of burns/scalding

• The hot-plate becomes very hot during operation; it remains hot for some time even after switching off. Caution: There is a danger of burns.
• The glass carafe becomes very hot as well. Caution: There is a danger of burns. Always use the handle when handling the hot carafe.

To prevent the danger of hot water or steam being emitted, always switch the coffee maker off and allow sufficient time for it to cool down before opening the water container lid or removing any accessories.

Caution - material damage

- Do not allow the appliance or its power cord to touch hot surfaces or to come into contact with any heat sources.

- During operation, the coffee maker must be placed on a level, non-slip surface, impervious to splashes and stains.

As most of today's furniture is coated

with different kinds of lacquer or plastic materials, which are then treated with various cleaning agents, it cannot be completely ruled out that some of those materials contain substances which may react with the rubber feet of the appliance, i.e. softening them. To prevent this, a suitable non-slip mat should be placed under the appliance wherever necessary.

- Caution: There is a danger of scalding from hot water or steam escaping through the fi lter insert lid during use. Ensure that the steam is allowed to escape freely. Do not, therefore., place the appliance underneath a shelf and keep well away from hot steam.

Before using for the first time

Before making coff ee for the fi rst time, let the appliance go through two or three cycles using the indicated maximum amount of cold water, but without using ground coff ee or a paper fi lter. Th is should also be done if the appliance has not been used for an extended period of time, and aft er descaling.

General information

A measuring scale on the glass carafe - facilitates filling the container with the correct amount of clean water. The scale shows the amount of coffee available after brewing. The scale refers to normal-sized cups with a capacity of about 125 ml. Make sure that the indicated maximum amount of water is not exceeded.

- If several consecutive brewing cycles are required, switch off the coffee maker after each cycle and let it cool down for approx. 5 minutes.

Caution: When filling the appliance with fresh water shortly after a brewing cycle is completed, there is a danger of scalding from hot water or steam escaping through the water outlet.

Making coff ee

-Filling with water:

Grip the recess on the water reservoir and lift it out. Open the reservoir, fill it with the required amount of fresh cold water and close the lid. Replace the reservoir in the appliance and push it down to open the valve in the bottom of the reservoir.

You may also use the glass carafe to fill the water reservoir.

- Inserting the paper filter:

Pull out the filter holder by its handle and insert a size 4 paper filter, first folding down its perforated sides.

- Adding ground coffee:

We recommend using fi nely ground fi lter coffee, approximately 6 g = 1½ - 2 tsp. per medium-sized cup (125 ml). Take the fi lter by its handle and replace it into the appliance.

-Preparing the carafe:

Fit the aroma protection lid on the carafe, and then place the carafe into the appliance. Only if correctly inserted will the lid disable the drip-stop mechanism in the filter holder during the brewing cycle.

- Starting the filtering process:

Plug in the appliance and use the On/Off switch to turn the appliance on. The filtration cycle starts and the water passes through the filter.

Note: While the water is passing through the system, certain noises can be heard. This is perfectly normal and no sign of any malfunction.

-Removing the carafe:

Wait until all the water has passed through the fi lter before the carafe is removed from the appliance.

- Switching the coffee maker off:

Th e coff ee may be kept warm inside the carafe by leaving it standing on the hot-plate. Th e plate is kept warm until the appliance is turned off using the On/Off switch. After the appliance has been switched off, it takes several more minutes for the hot-plate to cool down. Always switch off after use and remove the plug from the wall socket.

Descaling

- Like all thermal household appliances using hot water, the coffee maker needs

descaling (i.e. removal of lime deposits) on a regular basis to ensure proper functioning. A lengthening of the brewing time and increased noise during brewing indicate that descaling of the coffee maker has become necessary. The build-up of lime deposits also causes an increase in energy consumption.

An excessive build-up of lime deposits is very difficult to remove, even when strong descaling agents are used. It may also cause the brewing system to leak. We therefore strongly recommend descaling the appliance after each thirty to forty brewing cycles. For descaling, a commercially available descaling agent for coffee makers or a vinegar solution may be used.

Mix 2-3 tablespoons of vinegar with about - 10 cups of cold water

Pour this mixture into the water reservoir. – Place a paper filter into the filter holder and fit the filter holder into the appliance. Place the carafe with the aroma protection lid into the appliance.

Operate the appliance as described in the - section Making coff ee.

Repeat the procedure if necessary. For a - second descaling cycle, the same descaling solution may be used again; ensure, however, that it has cooled down completely.

To clean the appliance aft er descaling, let it run through 2-3 filtration cycles using clean water only.

- Thoroughly clean the filter holder after descaling. The carafe should be properly rinsed before the appliance is used again to make coffee.

- Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.

To avoid the risk of electric shock do not immerse the coff ee maker in water. It may be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth, using a mild detergent. Wipe dry aft erwards.

- Do not use abrasives or aggressive cleaning solutions.

Remove the paper fi lter with the used-coffe grounds and clean the fi lter holder. The filter holder is dishwasher safe. The coff ee grounds as well as the paper fi lter may be composted.

- If necessary, the water reservoir can be cleaned in warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water aft erwards.

Glass carafe:

–Clean the glass carafe in warm soapy water and thoroughly dry aft erwards.

- The glass carafe and lid are dishwasher safe.

- Every time the coffee maker is used, ensure that the handle of the glass carafe is properly and securely fitted. If necessary, the metal ring may be tightened by means of the screw in the handle.

Disposal

Do not dispose of old or defective appliances in domestic garbage; this should only be done through public collection points.
