3. Proper use

The vacuum cleaner is designed to vacuum up dry dirt such as dust, crumbs or lint from smooth floors, carpet and upholstery inside your house or car. It is not suitable for vacuuming up liquids.

- The appliance is intended for private use only and not for industrial/commercial use.

Please note that we shall not be liable in cases of improper use:

- Do not modify the appliance without our consent and do not use any auxiliary equipment that we have not approved or supplied.

- Use only spare parts and accessories that we have supplied or approved.

- Heed all the information in these operating instructions, especially the safety information. Any other use is deemed improper and can cause personal injury or damage to the appliance.

- Do not use the appliance in extreme environmental conditions.

4. Safety information

4.1. People not permitted to use this appliance

  • Keep the appliance and its accessories out of the reach of children.
  • This appliance may be used by children over the age of 8 and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities or by those without experience and/or knowledge, if they are supervised or have been instructed in the safe use of the appliance and have understood the dangers that result from it. Children must not be allowed to play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance may not be carried out by children, unless they are aged 8 or over and are supervised.
  • Children younger than 8 should be kept away from the appliance and the mains cable.

4.2. Safe operation

  • Use only the supplied mains adapter YLS0121A-E160020 for EU or YLS0121A-U160020 for UK to charge the vacuum cleaner.
  • The appliance must not be connected to the mains adapter during use.
  • Connect the YLS0121A-E160020 for EU or YLS0121A-U160020 for UK mains adapter only to an easily accessible, properly installed power socket supplying a mains power voltage of 220–240 V \~ 50 Hz.
  • Do not use an extension cable.
  • The mains adapter may only be used in dry rooms.
  • Use the vacuum cleaner only in enclosed rooms and never expose the appliance to dripping or splashing water.
  • RISK OF EXPLOSION! Never use the appliance near flammable materials. Do not use it to vacuum sharp-edged

or inflammable objects or liquids, e.g. matches or hot ashes. When vacuuming combustible liquids there is a risk of fire or explosion!

  • Keep hair and items of clothing away from the suction opening.
  • Do not use the vacuum cleaner on damp surfaces or for vacuuming liquids. Before vacuuming a freshly shampooed carpet, wait until the cleaning agent has completely dried. Otherwise the motor can become damaged.
  • Do not use the vacuum cleaner on uneven surfaces and make sure that it cannot fall down (e.g. when cleaning stairs).
  • Do not use the vacuum cleaner without the filters and dust container.
  • Do not cover the suction and outlet openings.
  • Never pull on the cable to remove the mains plug from the socket.
  • Always switch off the vacuum cleaner before changing the accessories, emptying the dust container or cleaning the filter. Never use the appliance without any filter elements.

4.3. Use of rechargeable batteries

This appliance contains a NiMH battery.

WARNING!

Please note the following when using NiMH rechargeable batteries:

  • Charge the battery regularly and as fully as possible. Do not leave the battery discharged for long periods.
  • Keep the battery away from heat sources such as radiators or open flames, e.g. candles. There is a risk of explosion!
  • If the appliance cannot be switched on although it is connected to a power source, please contact your service centre.
  • Do not use charging appliances that are damaged in any way.
  • Do not dismantle or deform the batteries. You could injure

your hands or fingers, or battery fluid could come into contact with your eyes or skin. If this happens, rinse the affected areas with plenty of clean water and contact your doctor immediately.

- Do not leave the battery in hot or cold locations, e.g. in a car in summer or winter. Extremes of temperature can adversely affect the battery's capability to charge correctly.

4.4. Faults

WARNING!

Live components. There is a risk of electric shock. Therefore, follow the instructions below carefully:

  • If the plug, cable or appliance itself is damaged, disconnect the appliance from the mains immediately.
  • CAUTION! To avoid risks, never try to open and/or repair the appliance yourself. There is a risk of electric shock. In the event of a fault, contact our Service Centre or another suitable professional repair workshop.
  • If the mains cable on the appliance is damaged it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its customer service agent or another suitably qualified person. This is to avoid hazards.

4.5. Cleaning

  • Never immerse the vacuum cleaner in water for cleaning.
    • Empty the dust container regularly.
  • Clean the dust filter regularly.

CAUTION!

Breathing in the dust when emptying the dust container can pose health risks or cause allergies. Empty the dust container directly into an outside waste bin.

6. Preparing the appliance

Remove all packaging materials from the appliance and the accessories.

6.1. Assembling the handheld vacuum cleaner

Insert the cyclone insert precisely into the dust container so that the seal on the dust filter closes off the dust container.
Then insert the HEPA filter into the cyclone insert so that the seal on the dust filter closes off the dust container.
Place the dust container onto the motor block by firstly inserting it into the catch at the bottom of the motor block and then folding it shut until the release button clicks audibly into place.

6.2. Assembling the charging station

Place the foot holder with the locking tabs in the recesses on the charging station until it clicks correctly into place.
Place the charging station onto an even floor near to a mains socket.

6.3. Assembling the upright vacuum cleaner

You will require a flat-headed screwdriver or a Phillips screwdriver.

Place the vacuum cleaner foot onto the lower section of the upright vacuum cleaner housing so that the two metal pins on the vacuum cleaner foot fit into

the holes on the upright vacuum cleaner housing. Push the two sections together until there is a flush connection.

If necessary, remove the screw on the bottom of the handle with a flat-headed screwdriver or a Phillips screwdriver.
▶ Slide the handle back onto the upright vacuum cleaner housing. Then insert the screw into the drilled hole and tighten it using a flat-headed screwdriver or a Phillips screwdriver.

The handle and the upright vacuum cleaner are now connected firmly together.

Now place the handheld vacuum cleaner into the upright vacuum cleaner housing by firstly inserting the suction opening into the lower section of the upright vacuum cleaner housing and then pressing it backwards into the housing until it clicks firmly into place.

6.4. Charging the battery

Charge your vacuum cleaner using the supplied YLS0121A-E160020 for EU or YL-S0121A-U160020 for UK mains adapter.

▶ Switch off the appliance before charging it.

PLEASE NOTE!

The upright vacuum cleaner housing is part of the charging station. The handheld appliance must be inserted and clicked into place in the up-right vacuum cleaner housing as described above.

Place the upright vacuum cleaner into the charging station. Ensure that the charging contact on the upright vacuum cleaner housing clicks into place in the contact on the charging station.
▶ Attach the mains adapter to the power connection on the rear of the charging station.
▶ Insert the plug into the mains socket.

The appliance will charge; the operating light on the handheld vacuum cleaner flashes slowly in red. Once the battery is charged, the operating light will light up permanently. The operating light will flash quickly in the event of a malfunction.

▶ After charging, remove the plug on the mains adapter from the mains socket and remove the jack plug from the charging station.

PLEASE NOTE!

Charge the battery for at least 24 hours before using the vacuum cleaner for the first time.

Always charge the battery when the suction power drops significantly.

7. Using the handheld vacuum cleaner

Remove the handheld vacuum cleaner from the upright vacuum cleaner housing by taking hold of the handheld vacuum cleaner at the handle, pressing the two release buttons on the side of the handheld vacuum cleaner and lifting it out at an angle.
▶ Ensure that the filter housing and the dust filter are precisely fitted in the dust container and that the dust container has been securely mounted on the motor block.

▶ Connect a suitable vacuuming attachment:

–The crevice tool for vacuuming difficult to reach areas.

- Brush attachment for vacuuming sensitive surfaces such as books, upholstery, etc.

▶ Switch on the vacuum cleaner by pressing the On/Off switch.

▶ Switch off the vacuum cleaner by pressing the On/Off switch again.

8. Using the upright vacuum cleaner

Assemble the upright vacuum cleaner as described above.

Remove the upright vacuum cleaner from the charging station by lifting it out at an angle.

▶ Switch on the vacuum cleaner by pressing the On/Off switch on the handle.

▶ Switch off the vacuum cleaner by pressing the On/Off switch on the handle again.

9. Cleaning and care

Empty the dust container and clean the filter and cyclone insert ideally after every use. Clean the suction openings as required.

- Do not use solvents or caustic/gaseous cleaning agents to clean the surfaces of the appliance and the accessories. Wipe the surface with a damp cloth.

9.1. Cleaning the dust container

We recommend emptying the dust container and cleaning the filter after every use.

Carry out the following steps:

The appliance is switched off.

▶ Press the release button on the handheld appliance.
Remove the dust container from the motor block.

Remove the dust filter by grabbing hold of it inside the opening and pulling it out.
Remove the cyclone insert by grabbing hold of it inside the opening and pulling it out.
▶ Empty the dust container over a dustbin.
- Rinse the dust container and the cyclone filter with water and clean the HEPA dust filter regularly under running water. Rinsing is not necessary every time. Never put the dust container in the dishwasher!
When the dust container, cyclone insert and HEPA filter are dry again, insert the filter housing and the cyclone insert with the dust filter precisely into the dust container so that the seal on the dust filter closes off the dust container.
Place the dust container onto the motor block by firstly inserting it into the catch at the bottom of the motor block and then folding it shut until the release button clicks audibly into place.

CAUTION

Before using the appliance for the first time, please ensure that the dust filter in the dust container has been inserted correctly. If this is not the case, the vacuum cleaner could be damaged.

9.2. Cleaning the suction openings

After a while, dirt and dust can collect around the suction openings and can reduce the suction power. To avoid this, the suction openings should be cleaned regularly.

▶ Switch off the appliance.

Remove dirt and dust from in and around the suction opening on the handheld appliance and around the brush, as well as from the suction tube in the vacuum cleaner foot.

You can remove the brush on the vacuum cleaner foot for cleaning purposes:

▶ Use a suitably sized coin to turn the brush locking mechanism in an anticlockwise direction and then remove the cover. Remove the brush and clean it.

Insert the brush again so that the triangular recess on the brush fits the triangular lug on the foot housing and the other end with the flat side is pointing upwards. Then replace the cover and lock it again with the brush locking mechanism by turning it in a clockwise direction.

In the event of a clogged vacuum cleaner foot, remove it from the upright vacuum cleaner housing by pressing the release button on the bottom of the upright vacuum cleaner housing backwards and pulling off the foot at the same time. Remove the foreign body from the vacuum cleaner foot and the suction tube on the upright vacuum cleaner housing.

▶ Then assemble the upright vacuum cleaner as described above.

10. Problem solving

If the appliance malfunctions, please check first if you can eliminate the error yourself with the help of the following overview.

Never try to repair the appliance yourself. Contact our Service Centre or other qualified personnel if a repair is necessary.

The appliance is fitted with a built-in NiMH battery. Within the EU this symbol indicates that this product may not be thrown away with the household refuse. Old appliances contain valuable recyclable materials which should be disposed of through the proper channels in the interests of the environment and human health. Therefore please use the collection systems provided or send the product back to the place where you bought it so that it can be disposed of correctly. The materials in the appliance will then be recycled appropriately.

15. General Warranty Conditions

15.1. General information

The warranty period is 24 months and begins on the day the product is purchased. The warranty covers all types of material and product damage that could occur during normal use.

Please keep your original proof of purchase in a safe place. The warranty provider reserves the right to refuse to confirm the status of the warranty or to carry out a repair under warranty if a valid proof of purchase cannot be produced.

If it is necessary to return your device for repair, please ensure that it is suitably packaged for transportation. Unless otherwise specified, you shall bear the costs for sending the device and the transport risk. The warranty provider does not assume any liability for additional materials sent with the product that do not belong to the original package contents supplied with the product.

Please enclose as much information as possible about the fault when sending the device to the warranty provider. In order to make a valid claim under warranty and before returning the device, please contact the Service Hotline operated by the warranty provider or the Service Portal. They will provide you with information on how to proceed further.

This warranty has no effect on your statutory warranty rights and is subject to the laws of the country in which the first purchase of the product was made by the end customer.

15.1.1. Scope

In the event of a fault on your product that is covered by this warranty, the warranty provider guarantees to repair or replace the product. The decision about whether to repair or replace the device is taken by the warranty provider. Therefore, the warranty provider can at its own discretion decide to replace a device submitted for repair under warranty with a refurbished device of the same quality.

No warranty is provided for batteries or rechargeable batteries or for consumable materials i.e. parts which have to be replaced at regular intervals during the normal use of the product e.g. video projector lamps.

A pixel error (permanently coloured, light or dark point in an image) is not generally considered a fault. Please refer to the information provided in the manual for this product for the precise number of permissible defects in the image.

The warranty provider gives no warranty for burnt-in images on plasma or LCD devices that result from the improper use of the device. Please refer to the information provided in the manual for this product for precise instructions on operating your plasma or LCD device.

The warranty does not cover errors relating to the playback of data media that have been created in an incompatible format or as a result of using unsuitable software. If it is discovered during the repair that the fault concerned is not covered under warranty, the warranty provider reserves the right to invoice the customer for the

costs already incurred in the form of a flat-rate handling charge, as well as to charge the customer for the materials and labour required for the repair after submitting a cost estimate. You will be informed in advance as the customer about these repair charges; you are responsible for accepting or rejecting the repair process.

15.1.2. Exclusions

Malfunctions and damage to the device caused by external influences, accidental damage, improper use, changes made to the product, modifications, upgrades, the use of third-party parts, neglect, viruses or software faults, improper transport, improper packaging or loss during the return of the product are not covered by the warranty issued by the warranty provider.

The warranty will be invalidated if the fault to the device is caused by maintenance or repair carried out by someone other than a service partner authorized by the warranty provider. The warranty will also be invalidated if labels or serial numbers on the device or a component of the device have been modified or made illegible.

15.1.3. Service Hotline

Before sending the device to the warranty provider, you must contact us via the Service Hotline or the Service Portal. This ensures that you receive further information on how to make a valid claim under warranty.

The use of the hotline may be subject to a charge.

The Service Hotline should under no circumstances be considered a substitute for user training for software and hardware or reading the manual, nor does it provide support for third-party products.

15.2. Special warranty conditions for PC, notebook, pocket PC (PDA), devices with navigation functions (PNA), telephone devices, mobile telephones and devices with a memory function

Should any of the supplied options (e.g. memory cards, etc.) have a fault, you are entitled to a repair or replacement. The warranty covers material and labour costs for restoring the functionality of the product concerned.

The warranty can be invalidated if any damage to the product itself or the supplied options results from the addition of any hardware to your product that is not produced or distributed by the warranty provider.

A limited warranty is provided for supplied software. This applies to a pre-installed operating system and also to supplied programs. For software supplied with the device by the warranty provider, a warranty is issued that any data media, e.g. discs and CD-ROMs on which the software is supplied, shall be free from faults in terms of their materials and workmanship for a period of 90 days following purchase. In the event of a faulty data medium being supplied, the warranty provider shall replace the faulty data medium free of charge; any further claims are excluded. Excluding the warranty for data media, all software is supplied without warranty. Furthermore,

it is not warranted that this software shall function without interruption or errors or that it will meet your requirements. In the case of map material supplied for a device with navigation functions, no warranty is provided for its completeness.

It may be necessary to delete all data from the device in order to repair it. Please ensure that you have a backup copy for all of the data on the device before sending back the device. We expressly point out that the factory settings will be restored in the event of a repair. The warranty provider assumes no liability for the cost of a software configuration, lost revenue, loss of data or software, or other consequential damages.

15.3. Special warranty conditions for repair on site or replacement on site

If there is an entitlement to on-site repair or replacement, the specific warranty terms and conditions for on-site repair or replacement shall apply to your product.

The following provisions must be ensured by you for carrying out repairs or replacements on site:

  • Personnel from the warranty provider who arrive at your premises for the above-mentioned purpose must have unrestricted, safe and immediate access to the devices.
  • Telecommunication facilities required by these personnel for the proper execution of your order, for testing and diagnostic purposes or for remedying faults must be provided by you at your own expense.
