Installation

Work surface

Choose a clean work surface on which to place the appliance. A minimum distance of 20 cm should be kept between this and non-heat-resistant surfaces. For optimum user comfort, the top of the irons must be located between 85 and 95 cm from the ground.

If this appliance must be placed in close proximity to a wall, partition, kitchen furniture, decorative borders, etc., they should be of non-flammable material. If not, they should be covered by appropriate heat insulating, non-combustible material, with particular attention paid to fire prevention regulations.

When placing the waffle iron, position it so as not to crush the hoses of the device.

Electrical connection

The appliances must be connected to a single-phase 240 V power supply, a two-pin socket + an earth contact of 16 amps. It is shipped with a HO7RNF-type power cable with three conductors (phase + neutral + earth) with a 1.5 mm ^2 section.

Appliances delivered without a plug must be connected to the system with a power cord including the 3 wires (earth in green and yellow, neutral in blue and the live wire in another colour), with a 1.5 ~mm^2 section, according to the instructions in the diagram opposite.

One disconnection method must be planned in the fixed lines in keeping with installation rules for the country where the appliance is installed.

This setup must be performed by an authorised professional.

Use

Seasoning the Irons

Before first use, the waffle iron should be seasoned.

Season with edible oil that contains no other ingredients.

Good seasoning means a chestnut (dark brown) colour and the look of a varnish.

We advise you to follow these steps:

- Plug in the waffle iron, set it to its open position and adjust the thermostat to 270 °C.

- Let it heat for about 30 minutes.

- Leave the waffle iron at this temperature (270 °C) throughout the procedures below.

- Using a food-safe brush, carefully apply a thin layer of oil across all the nooks and crannies of the grids. Don’t leave extra oil in the depressions; spread around using a dry brush if needed.

- Let this first layer cook for 10 minutes.

■ Apply a second layer of oil in the same way.

- Let that cook for 10 more minutes, then turn off the waffle iron.

Necessary material:

Here are the recommended accessories for making perfect waffles:

■ The Krampouz waffle iron set (Ref. ASG2) comes with a soft brush, fork and stainless steel brush.
■ Edible oil to grease the iron plates
■ A container for the batter
■ A ladle or jug

Cooking recommendations :

  • Place the appliance on a flat, rigid surface. Do not use it on a heat-sensitive support.
  • With the irons previously seasoned (see the section Seasoning the Irons), start heating the appliance – set the thermostat to 200 °C – with the irons closed.
  • Wait for about 15 minutes for the irons to reach 200 °C.

■ Set the irons to the open position.

■ Using a food-safe brush, oil all parts of the irons.

- For Belgian waffles, use a ladle or jug to fill the irons on one side until the tops of the grid outlines are covered.

■ For Liège waffles, place the batter pieces in the iron.

- Close the irons immediately and tightly together using the handles. Rotate the irons to cook the liquid batter (except for waffle irons that open to 90°).

- Let cook in this position for 3-4 minutes, according to the type of waffle, the texture of the batter and your irons' temperature (adjust the time after a few tests).

- Delicately lift the top plate and remove the waffles using a waffle pick.

- Place the waffles on a grill so they don’t get soft.

The frame

Before cleaning the appliance, unplug it and let the irons cool.

Clean the frame and the removable plates with a sponge dipped in warm water and liquid detergent.

Any stubborn stains can be removed by using a special industrial product.

Never use abrasive products or metallic brushes.

Do not clean the appliance by immersing in water, spraying it, or by using a steam cleaner.

Iron plate covers

The covers should be cleaned the same way as the frame.

Due to this unit's operating temperature (over 300^ ), it is normal for the covers to darken over time.

Iron plates

Cooking waffles requires fat on the wafflemaker's iron plates:

  • Greasing the irons before use with a food-safe brush
  • Fat in the batter depending on the recipe.

These fats will gradually add to the initial seasoning. It is important that the seasoning does not become too thick because:

  • It acts as an insulator and disrupts the cooking process,
  • It detaches or flakes off giving the impression that the metal is disintegrating.

Cleaning with water (disassembling heating element packs and irons) and brushing regularly will prevent this phenomenon (do not be afraid of scratching the metal). Also consider cleaning the axle pin regularly, so that it doesn't get clogged up. It can be placed in the dishwasher. (Caution: risk of damaging the seasoning.)

If this crust becomes too thick, making any cleaning or brushing ineffective, the iron plates can be stripped by sanding or pyrolysis.

After these procedures, it is necessary to repeat the seasoning, just like for new irons.

Special case for Liège waffles :

- The use of sugar mixed with the batter causes burned caramel on the wafflemaker's plates. To remove the caramel, disassemble the heating element packs, free the irons, and soak them in hot water. The caramel will dissolve and a simple wipe with a sponge will remove it.

Note: Never abruptly cool irons that are hotter than 100 °C (for example, by immersing in water) – the thermal shock could break your appliance.

Disassembly procedures to clean iron plates: see diagrams on pp. 44-48.

REMEMBER: Let the plates cool before disassembling.
