ETNA KIS159ZT - Control panel - 2

Before use, read the separate safety instructions first!

Temperature safety

A sensor continuously measures the temperature of certain parts of the hob. Every cooking zone is equipped with a sensor that measures the temperature of the bottom of the pan to avoid any risk of overheating when a pan boils dry. In case of temperatures rising too high, the power is reduced or the hob switches off automatically.

Cooking-time limiter

ETNA KIS159ZT - Cooking-time limiter - 1

The cooking-time limiter is a safety function of your cooking appliance. It will operate if you forget to switch off your hob. Depending on the setting you have chosen, the cooking time will be limited as follows:

Cooking level Maximum operating time (hours)
1 8 h
2 8 h
3 8 h
4 4 h
5 4 h
6 4 h
7 2 h
8 2 h
9 2 h
P (boost) 5 minutesAfter 5 minutes, the power is reduced to the original setting. If the original setting equals 0, the power is reduced to setting 9.

Power limiter

ETNA KIS159ZT - Power limiter - 1

Cooking zones influence each other. When the maximum power is reached, the power is distributed automatically. A higher power can no longer be set per cooking zone. You must first reduce the power off a cooking zone or switch off a cooking zone in order to be able to set a higher power on another cooking zone.

Use of the touch keys and the slide control

Place the tip of your finger flat on a key or the slide control to achieve the best results. You do not have to apply any pressure. The touch buttons only respond light pressure from a fingertip. Do not operate the controls with any other objects.

Induction noises

A ticking sound

This is caused by the power limiter on the cooking zones. You may also hear a ticking sound at lower cooking levels.

Pans make noise

Pans can make noise while cooking. This is caused by the energy flowing from the hob to the pan. At high levels, this is perfectly normal for some pans. This does not harm the pans or the hob.

The fan makes noise

The appliance is equipped with a fan to extend the life of the electronics. If you use the appliance intensively, the fan turns on to cool the appliance and you will hear a buzzing sound. The fan continues to operate for a few minutes after the hob is switched off.

Suitable pans

For induction cooking, a pan should have a thick flat bottom (at least 2.25 mm). Use pans made of ferrous (magnetic) material or pans with a sandwich bottom. Other pans will not work as well. Pans made of copper, aluminium or ceramic material are unsuitable.

ETNA KIS159ZT - Suitable pans - 1

Only use pans with a flat bottom. A hollow or convex bottom may impede the operation of the boil-dry protection; the appliance may overheat. This can lead to damage. Damage caused by using unsuitable pans or boiling dry is not covered by the warranty.

ETNA KIS159ZT - Suitable pans - 2

Pans used on a gas hob are no longer suitable for induction cooking.

ETNA KIS159ZT - Suitable pans - 3

Be careful when using enamelled pans made of thin sheet steel! The enamel can be damaged on a high setting if the pan is too dry. Excessively high power levels can easily warp the bottom of the pan.

BEFORE USING THE APPLIANCE FOR THE FIRST TIME

Minimum pan diameter

- The minimum diameter of the pan bottom:

>90 mm for a cooking zone 160 mm.
110 mm for a cooking zone 180 mm.
130 mm for a cooking zone 210 mm.

- You will achieve the best results with a pan of the same diameter as the cooking zone. If the pan is too small, the cooking zone will not switch on.

Warning

Grains of sand can cause permanent scratches. Therefore, only put pans with clean bottoms on the hob. We recommend lifting pans rather than sliding them across the hob.

Pan detection

  • If after setting the power level the hob does not detect a (ferrous) pan, the pan detection symbol flashes on the display. The cooking zone switches off automatically after 1 minute.
  • If you remove a pan from the cooking zone during cooking, the pan detection symbol appears. The cooking zone switches off. The symbol disappears when you place the pan again. The cooking zone switches back on at the previously set power level.

Setting power

The cooking zones have power levels from 0 to 9 and a boost level (P). Set the power level by touching the slide control. When you first touch it, the level is set to the part of the slide control you touch. Swiping across the slide control changes the setting. The setting increases as you slide to the right. The setting decreases as you slide to the left. When you remove your finger from the slide control, the cooking zone starts heating at the selected setting.

Boost function

You can use the boost function to cook for max. 5 minutes at the highest cooking level. After 5 minutes, the power is reduced to the original setting. If the original setting equals 0, the power is reduced to setting 9.

Cooking settings

As the ideal settings depend on the quantity and consistency of the dish in the pan, the following are merely guidelines.

Use the boost setting for:

- quickly bringing food or liquid to a boil

Use setting 9 for:

  • searing meat
  • preparing fish

  • you have not placed a pan on the correct cooking zone;
  • the pan you're using is not suitable for induction cooking;

Tips for energy-efficient cooking with hobs

  • Always use the right size of pan for the amount of food you are cooking.
  • Put just enough water in the pan to cover vegetables.
  • Choose the right size of zone for the pan.
    • Always put lids on pans to keep the heat in.
  • Turn down or turn off the cooking zone once the cooking temperature or state is reached.
  • Use a steamer to cook vegetables, that way you can layer a number of vegetables on top of each other and still use one ring, or use a pan with a divider.
  • Use a pressure cooker for cooking pulses, and even joints of meat, whole meals, or stews. It speeds up the cooking process.

Disposal of packaging and appliance

In the manufacturing of this appliance durable materials were used. Make sure to dispose of this equipment responsibly at the end of its lifecycle. Ask the authorities for more information regarding this.

The appliance packaging is recyclable. The following may have been used:

text_image Prohibition sign for a trash bin with crossed-out lanes and a blank rectangular base

As a reminder of the need to dispose of household appliances separately, the product is marked with the symbol of a crossed-out wheeled dustbin. This means that at the end of its working life, the product must not be disposed of as urban waste. It must be taken to a special local authority differentiated waste collection centre or to a dealer providing this service.

Disposing of a household appliance separately avoids possible negative consequences for the environment and health deriving from inappropriate disposal and enables the constituent materials to be recovered to obtain significant savings in energy and resources.
