How to install hard drives in the SA6400?

Open the disk tray by pressing the button on the handle. Insert the 3.5" or 2.5" drive into the tray, then secure it with the provided screws. For 2.5" drives, use the fastening panels. Insert the tray into the bay, push the handle, and lock it by lowering the switch.

How to reset the admin password?

Press and hold the RESET button until you hear a beep. Release immediately. This restores the IP address, DNS, and default admin password. To reinstall DSM, hold RESET until the beep, release, then press and hold again within 10 seconds.

What does the flashing orange ALERT LED mean?

The flashing orange ALERT LED indicates a fan failure or overheating. Log in to DSM for details. Check the fans and temperature. If the problem persists, replace the faulty fan.

How to expand the RAM of the SA6400?

Power off the NAS, disconnect cables, and remove the rear top cover. Insert Synology memory modules into the DIMM slots (C1, D1, etc.) aligning the notch and pushing firmly until the clips lock. Replace the cover and power on the NAS. Verify recognition in Control Panel > Information Center.

How to connect an RX1223RP expansion unit?

Connect an expansion cable between the expansion port of the SA6400 and that of the RX1223RP unit. Ensure the blue stripe on the cable is oriented to the right on the SA6400 side and upward on the RX1223RP side. Plug in the power cords. Power on the SA6400: the expansion unit will turn on automatically.

Can I use hard drives of a different brand?

Yes, but Synology recommends using compatible drives listed on the Synology Product Compatibility List for optimal performance. To create a RAID volume, use drives of the same size.

How to update DiskStation Manager (DSM)?

Log in to DSM as admin. Go to Control Panel > Update & Restore and click Download to install the latest version. Make sure the NAS is connected to the Internet.

The NAS does not start, what to do?

Check the power connection and power button. If the power LED flashes continuously, remove all external devices, drives, and additional memory. Try again. If the LED stays solid, follow the troubleshooting procedure in the manual. Contact Synology technical support if the problem persists.

How to replace a faulty fan?

Press the side buttons of the NAS to remove the fan cover. Locate the faulty fan. Lift it to remove it. Insert a new fan (ref. Fan 80*38_2) aligning it properly. Replace the cover.

How to access the NAS remotely?

Enable QuickConnect in DSM (Control Panel > QuickConnect) or configure access via VPN or port forwarding on your router. You can also use the Synology Drive or DS finder app for remote access.
