Frequently Asked Questions - AC225 Guardian

How to replace the filter of the Guardian AC225?

Turn off the device and unplug it. Remove the front cover by unlocking the tabs at the bottom. Replace the old filter with a new one (model FLT200) with the carbon layer facing the cover. Put the cover back on and press the night light button for 3 seconds to reset the indicator.

Why is the night light flashing?

If the night light flashes, it indicates it is time to replace the allergen filter. Replace the filter and reset the system by pressing the night light button for 3 seconds. If it flashes red, the UV-C bulb (model LB200) needs to be replaced.

Can I use an extension cord with the air purifier?

No, using an extension cord is prohibited to reduce the risk of fire or electric shock. Plug the device directly into a 120 V outlet.

How to use the essential oil diffuser?

Remove the front cover, take out the oil pad (located inside), add a few drops of your favorite essential oil, put the pad back, and replace the cover. The oil will be diffused by the airflow.

The device no longer works, what to do?

First check that the device is plugged into a working outlet. Make sure the filter is correctly installed. If the problem persists, contact Guardian customer service at 1.866.603.5900.

How often to replace the UV-C bulb?

The UV-C lamp has a lifespan of approximately 5,000 hours. It is recommended to replace it approximately every 10 months, depending on usage. Use only the Guardian model LB200.

Can I wash the filter?

No, the filters cannot be washed or reused. You can gently vacuum the surface of the filter to remove dust and extend its life. Replace it as soon as the indicator flashes.

Does the device produce ozone?

Yes, but in very small amounts and within standards. The average ozone concentration over 8 hours is 0.001 ppm, well below the limit of 0.05 ppm. The device complies with Health Canada guidelines.

How to reset the filter replacement indicator?

After replacing the filter, press the night light control button (at the top of the device) and hold it for 3 seconds. The light will stop flashing.

What to do if the UV-C lamp flashes red?

This means the UV-C bulb needs to be replaced. Turn off and unplug the device, remove the cover, unscrew the lamp cover with a Phillips screwdriver, unplug the old bulb and replace it with a new one (LB200). Reset by pressing the night light button for 3 seconds.

This warranty applies to repair or replacement of product found to be defective in materials or workmanship. This warranty does not apply to damage resulting from unusual wear, commercial, abusive, unreasonable use or supplemental damage. This warranty does not cover damage from unauthorized repairs or from any use not in accordance with the instruction manual. Defects that are the result of normal wear and tear will not be considered manufacturing defects under this warranty.

If this product should become defective within the warranty period, we will repair or replace any defective parts free of charge. All warranty repairs must be completed by Guardian Technologies LLC. This warranty gives you specific legal rights and you may also have other rights (other rights may vary from state to state in the U.S.A.)

The 8 hour TWA Ozone for this product is 0.001 ppmv when tested in a 30 m ^3 chamber. The product complies with the maximum allowable concentration of ozone of 0.050 parts per million by volume (ppmv) in a 24-hour period. The Health Canada Guideline 2010 recommends that the maximum exposure limit, based on averaging time of 8 hours, is 0.020 ppmv or less when tested in a sealed, controlled room approximately 30 m ^3 .

Cleaner Air UV-C Light Allergen Filter HOW IT WORKS Fan draws in air. Allergen filter captures airborne particles, such as dust mites, pollens, mold spores, debris and pet dander.

UV-C light destroys the DNA of germs eliminating their ability to reproduce.
Titanium Dioxide enhances killing efficiency and odor elimination.
Cleaner air is released into the room.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

1. Plug the unit into a 120V AC electrical outlet.
2. Turn power on by sliding up switch on side of unit.
3. UV-C light will run continuously when the unit is on.
4. Turn night light on/off by pressing switch on top of unit.
5. For best results continuous operation is recommended.

Essential oil option

A replaceable aroma pad is included

if the addition of your favorite essential oil is desired.

1. Remove the front cover.
2. Remove the oil pad and add a few drops of an essential oil – more or less may be used depending on your aroma strength preference.
3. Replace the oil pad into your unit.

FILTER REPLACEMENT

CHANGE FILTER INDICATOR

The night light on the top of the air cleaner will flash indicating that it is time to replace the filter. Replace the filter according to the directions then press the night light button and hold for 3 seconds to restart the system. The light will stop flashing. Depending on usage the filter will last approximately 3 months.

REPLACE FILTER

1. Turn off the unit.
2. Remove the unit from the outlet and remove the front cover by first pulling away from the tabs on the bottom of the unit.
3. Remove the used filter.
4. Place the new filter inside of the front cover with the black carbon layer facing the cover.
5. Reattach the front cover of the unit and securely latch into place.
6. Push and hold the night light control button for 3 seconds to reset Filter Change Indicator.

CHECKING AND MAINTAINING FILTER

Maintain the filter by checking it frequently.

Depending on air quality conditions, you may need to replace it more frequently. Vacuum the carbon filter layer as needed to remove loose debris and dust and to help prolong the life of your filter.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT try to wash and re-use the Filter.

REPLACING THE UV-C BULB

WHEN TO CHANGE THE BULB

You will know to change the bulb when the night light flashes a red light.

A replaceable 1.7 watt UV-C light bulb will last over 5000 hours.

It is suggested to replace the UV-C light bulb every 10 months depending on use.

REPLACE BULB

1. Turn off the unit.
2. Unplug the unit from the electrical outlet.
3. Remove the front cover by pulling away from the tabs on the bottom of the unit.

4. Using a small Phillips head screwdriver, loosen and remove the two Phillips screws located on the lamp cover. Remove the bulb and cable from the lamp compartment.

5. Remove the bulb by pulling it to unplug it from the cable. Do not pull the internal wire lead when disassembling the UV Lamp.

6. Replace the new bulb by plugging it into the cable.

Replace the bulb and cable back into the lamp compartment.

1. Reassemble by reversing steps 3-4 above.

2. Push and hold the night light control button for 3 seconds to reset the UV light indicator.

NOTE: The purifier will run but the UV-C light will not function if the front cover is off or not properly installed.

WARNING:

ULTRAVIOLET-C LIGHT IS EMITTED FROM THE BULB WHEN THE UNIT IS ELECTRIFIED, EYE INJURY OR IRRITATION COULD RESULT, UNPLUG THE UNIT WHEN SERVICING THE BULB TO AVOID OVER EXPOSURE OF EYES AND SKIN TO THE ULTRAVIOLET-C LIGHT.

Discard the used bulb by following the recommended disposal procedure for a used fluorescent bulb. The bulb should only be used in the Germ Guardian AC225 and all instructions for use must be followed.

WARNING:

MISAPPLYING OR MISUSING THE UV-C BULB COULD CAUSE INJURY TO THE EYES OR SKIN. NEVER USE THE BULB WITHOUT INSTALLING IT IN THE UNIT AS INSTRUCTED. NEVER OPERATE THE UNIT WITHOUT THE FRONT COVER IN PLACE.

This product can be serviced or maintained only by changing the UV-C bulb. The unit contains no serviceable parts. All parts, except the UV-C bulb, are warranted for 1 year from date of purchase. See the Limited Warranty. Use of any bulb other than the appropriate Guardian Technologies pluggable bulb will void the warranty. You may purchase bulbs directly from Guardian Technologies, or we can provide the names of retailers who stock our products in your area. Please call 866-603-5900 for more information. The health aspects associated with this product and its ability to aid in the disinfection of environmental air have not been investigated by CSA. The purchase of the Germ Guardian device does not prevent illness.
