Frequently Asked Questions - KWCS100WSS KITCHENAID

How to install the KitchenAid KWCS100WSS range hood?
Installation must be performed by a qualified technician. Follow the provided installation instructions. Use a 6 in (15.2 cm) metal duct for external venting or a recirculation kit for ductless installation. Use the provided mounting screws and secure the hood to a wooden structure. Respect the minimum distances from the cooking surface (30 in minimum, 36 in recommended).
How to clean the metal grease filters?
Remove the filters by pressing the tab and pulling down. Wash them in the dishwasher or by hand with warm detergent. Let them dry completely before reinstalling. Clean them frequently to prevent grease buildup.
How to replace the halogen lamp?
Turn off the hood and wait for the lamp to cool. Remove the two screws from the lighting bracket and gently pull the bracket. Replace with a halogen lamp of 12 V, 20 W max, MR11 base. Do not touch the lamp with bare fingers; use a glove or cloth.
Can I use the hood in recirculation mode (without external venting)?
Yes, you must purchase the chimney recirculation kit (part no. W10272172) and charcoal filters (part no. 4378623). Install the diverter fitting provided with the hood and the charcoal filters. The vapors are then recirculated and returned to the room.
What are the exact dimensions of the hood?
The hood has a width of 91.4 cm (36 in) and a depth of 50.8 cm (20 in). The total height with the chimney is adjustable from 73.7 cm to 113 cm (29 in to 44 in) depending on the ceiling height.
What to do if the hood stops suddenly during use?
The hood is equipped with a thermal protection device. Set the fan to off (position 0) and wait about 60 minutes for it to cool down. Then turn it back on. If the problem persists, check the circuit breaker or contact after-sales service.
What type of vent duct is recommended?
Use only a rigid metal duct with a diameter of 6 in (15.2 cm). Avoid flexible ducts that reduce performance. The maximum circuit length is 35 ft (10.7 m). Limit the number of 90° elbows to three maximum.
How often should the charcoal filters be replaced?
Replace the charcoal filters every 4 months under normal use, more often with heavy use. They are not washable and must be discarded. Follow the removal instructions: remove the grease filters, then turn the charcoal filters counterclockwise to remove them.
Is the hood compatible with a gas stove?
Yes, it can be installed over a gas stove. Maintain a minimum distance of 30 in (76.2 cm) between the cooking surface and the bottom of the hood. Ensure adequate ventilation and follow local codes.
What is the warranty for the KitchenAid KWCS100WSS range hood?
The hood is covered by a 1-year limited warranty from the date of purchase, for parts and labor. The warranty applies only in the United States and Canada. Keep the proof of purchase. For service, call 1-800-807-6777 in Canada.

*NOTE: The range hood chimneys are adjustable and designed to meet varying ceiling or soffit heights depending on the distance "X" between the bottom of the range hood and the cooking surface. The chimney extension replaces the upper chimney shipped with the range hood. See "Assistance or Service" section to order.

IMPORTANT:

Minimum distance "X": 24" (61.0 cm)

Suggested maximum distance "X": 36" (91.4 cm)

The chimneys can be adjusted for ceilings between 7^5^ (2.26 m) with dimension "X" at 24" (61.0 cm) and 9^812^ (2.96 m) with dimension "X" at 36" (91.4 cm).

Venting Requirements

(Vented Models Only)

  • Vent system must terminate to the outdoors, except for nonvented (recirculating) installations.
  • Do not terminate the vent system in an attic or other enclosed area.
  • Do not use 4'' (10.2 cm) laundry-type wall caps.
Use metal vent only. Rigid metal vent is recommended. Plastic or metal foil vent is not recommended.
The length of vent system and number of elbows should be kept to a minimum to provide efficient performance.

For the most efficient and quiet operation:

Use no more than three 90^ elbows.
Make sure there is a minimum of 24^ (61.0 cm) of straight vent between the elbows if more than 1 elbow is used.
- Do not install 2 elbows together.

Use clamps to seal all joints in the vent system.
The vent system must have a damper. If the roof or wall cap has a damper, do not use the damper supplied with the range hood.
Use caulking to seal exterior wall or roof opening around the cap.
The size of the vent should be uniform.

Cold weather installations

An additional back draft damper should be installed to minimize backward cold air flow and a thermal break should be installed to minimize conduction of outside temperatures as part of the vent system. The damper should be on the cold air side of the thermal break.

The break should be as close as possible to where the vent system enters the heated portion of the house.

Makeup air

Local building codes may require the use of make up air systems when using ventilation systems greater than specified CFM of air movement. The specified CFM varies from locale to locale.

Consult your HVAC professional for specific requirements in your area.

Venting Methods

This canopy range hood is factory set for venting through the roof or through the wall.

A 6'' (15.2 cm) round vent system is needed for installation (not included). The hood exhaust opening is 6'' (15.2 cm) round.

NOTE: Flexible vent is not recommended. Flexible vent creates back pressure and air turbulence that greatly reduce performance.

Vent system can terminate either through the roof or wall. To vent through a wall, a 90^ elbow is needed.

Rear discharge

A 90^ elbow may be installed immediately above the hood.

For non-vented (recirculating) installations

If it is not possible to vent cooking fumes and vapors to the outside, the hood can be used in the non-vented (recirculating) installation by fitting the charcoal filters and the diverter to the range hood. Fumes and vapors are recycled through the vent slots in the lower chimney.
