Installing and operating your fridge freezer

Before starting to use your fridge freezer, you should pay attention to the following points:

  • The operating voltage for your fridge freezer is 220-240 V at 50Hz.
  • The plug must be accessible after installation.
  • Your fridge freezer may have a smell when it is operated for the first time. This is normal and the smell will fade away when your fridge freezer starts to cool.
  • Before connecting your fridge freezer, ensure that the information on the data plate (voltage and connected load) matches that of the mains electricity supply. If in doubt, consult a qualified electrician.
  • Insert the plug into a socket with an efficient ground connection. If the socket has no ground contact or the plug does not match, we recommend that you consult a qualified electrician for assistance.
  • The appliance must be connected with a properly installed fused socket. Power supply (AC) and voltage at the operating point must match with the details on the name plate of the appliance (name plate is located on the inside left of the appliance).
    • We do not accept responsibility for any damages that occur due to ungrounded usage.
  • Place your fridge freezer where it will not be exposed to direct sunlight.
  • Your fridge freezer should never be used outdoors or exposed to rain.
  • Your appliance should be at least 50 cm away from stoves, gas ovens and heater cores, and at least 5 cm away from electrical ovens.
  • When your fridge freezer is placed next to a deep freezer, there should be at least 2 cm between them to prevent humidity forming on the outer surface.
  • Do not place heavy items on the appliance.
  • Clean the appliance thoroughly, especially the interior, before use (see Cleaning and Maintenance).

HOW TO OPERATE THE APPLIANCE

Thermostat setting

AIRLUX ARI122 - Thermostat setting - 1

natural_image Technical line drawing of a handheld device with ventilation slots and a circular component (no text or symbols)

Thermostat automatically regulates the inside temperature of the fridge compartment and freezer compartment. By rotating the knob from position 1 to 5, colder temperatures can be obtained.

Important note: Do not try to rotate knob beyond

1 position it will stop your appliance.

  • The “•” position shows thermostat is closed and no cooling is available.
  • For short-term storage of food in the freezer compartment, you can set the knob between minimum and medium position (1-3).
  • For long-term storage of food in the freezer compartment, you can set knob medium position.(3-4)

Note that; the ambient temperature, temperature of the freshly stored food and how often the door is opened, affects the temperature in the refrigerator and freezer compartments. If required, change the temperature setting.

Warnings about temperature adjustments

  • The freezer compartment of the refrigerator cools down to -18^ and less.
  • It is not recommended that you operate your fridge freezer in environments colder than 10^ C in terms of its efficiency.
  • Temperature adjustments should be made according to the frequency of door openings and the quantity of food kept inside the fridge freezer.
  • When you first switch on the appliance, you should ideally try to run it without any food in for 24 hours and not open the door. If you need to use it straight away, try not to put a large quantity of food inside.
  • A 5 minute delay function is included to prevent damage to the compressor of your fridge freezer, when you unplug it and then plug it in again to operate it, or when an energy breakdown occurs. Your fridge freezer will start to operate normally after 5 minutes.
  • Your fridge freezer is designed to operate in the ambient temperature intervals stated

in the standards, according to the climate class stated in the information label. It is not recommended that your fridge freezer is operated in the environments which are out of the stated temperature intervals. This will reduce the cooling efficiency of the fridge freezer.

- This appliance is designed for use at an ambient temperature within the 16°C - 32°C range.

Climate ClassAmbient Temperature °C
T Between 16 and 43 (°C)

Visual and text descriptions on the accessories section may vary according which model you have.

PART 3. ARRANGING FOOD IN THE APPLIANCE

Fridge compartment

• Refrigerator compartment is used for storing fresh food for few days.

- To reduce humidity and the consequent increase in frost, never place liquids in unsealed containers in the fridge compartment. Frost tends to concentrate in the coldest parts of the evaporating liquid and in time will more frequent defrosting will be required.

- Never place warm food in the refrigerator. Warm food should be allowed to cool at room temperature and should be arranged to ensure adequate air circulation in the fridge compartment.

- Nothing should touch the back wall of the appliance as it will cause frost and packaging to stick to it. Do not open the fridge compartment door too frequently.

- Arrange meat and cleaned fish (wrapped in packages or sheets of plastic) which you intend to use in 1-2 days, in the bottom section of the fridge compartment.

- Store fruit and vegetable items loose in the crisper containers.

Freezer compartment

- Use the freezer for storing deep-frozen or frozen food for long periods of time and making ice cubes.

- Do not store fresh or warm food with frozen food as it can thaw the frozen food.

- When freezing fresh food (e.g. meat, fish and mincemeat), divide it into portions that you will consume in one sitting.

  • When storing frozen food; the instructions shown on frozen food packaging should always be followed carefully and if no information is provided, food should not be stored for more than 3 months from the purchase date.
  • When buying frozen food ensure that these have been frozen at suitable temperatures and that the packing is intact.
  • If a frozen food package shows signs of humidity and abnormal swelling it is probable that it has been previously stored at an unsuitable temperature and that the contents have deteriorated. Do not buy such food.
  • The storage life of frozen food depends on the room temperature, thermostat setting, how often the door is opened, the type of food and the length of time required to transport the product from the shop to your home. Always follow the instructions printed on the packaging and never exceed the maximum storage life indicated.
  • The maximum amount of fresh foods that can be loaded in the freezer within 24 hours is indicated on the name plate (see freezing capacity).

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

  • Disconnect the unit from the power supply before cleaning.
  • Do not wash your fridge freezer by pouring water on it.
  • Make sure that no water enters the lamp housing and other electrical components.
  • The refrigerator should be cleaned periodically using a solution of bicarbonate of soda and lukewarm water.

AIRLUX ARI122 - CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE - 1

natural_image Simple line drawing of a mechanical component or bracket (no text or symbols)

AIRLUX ARI122 - Defrosting - 2

natural_image Diagram showing a hand holding a circular object with an arrow, no text or symbols present

- Defrosting occurs fully automatically in refrigerator compartment during operation; the defrosted water collected by the evaporating tray and evaporates automatically.

- The evaporating tray and water drain hole (back of the refrigerator crisper shelf) should be cleaned periodically to prevent the water from collecting on the bottom of the refrigerator instead of flowing out.

Defrosting the freezer compartment:

WARNING: Never use sharp metal tools, unless recommended by manufacturer, for this operation as they can damage the refrigeration circuit.

After a period of time, frost will build up in certain areas in the freezer compartment. The frost, accumulated in the freezer compartment, should be removed periodically (use the plastic scraper if available).

Complete defrosting will become necessary if the frost layer exceeds 3-5 mm to maintain the efficiency of the freezer.

- The day before you defrost, set the thermostat dial to position "5" to freeze the foods completely.

- During defrosting, frozen foods should be wrapped in several layers of paper and kept in a cool place. The inevitable rise in temperature will shorten their storage life. Remember to use these foods within a relatively short period of time.

- Set the thermostat knob to position “•” and switch off the appliance.

- Leave the door open to accelerate defrosting. Remove the defrost water from the compartment.

- Clean the interior by hand with lukewarm water and a little detergent. Never use abrasive products or aggressive cleaning agents.

- Dry the inside of the unit, plug on the mains, and set the thermostat knob to position "5". After 24 hours, reset the thermostat to the desired position.

Replacing the light bulb

MAX 15W MAX 5 8

When replacing the bulb of the fridge compartment;

  1. Unplug the unit from the power supply,
  2. Press the hooks on the sides of the light cover top and remove the light cover
  3. Change the present light bulb with a new one of not more than 15 W.
  4. Replace the light cover and after waiting 5 minutes plug the unit.

BEFORE CALLING YOUR AFTER SALES SERVICE

If your fridge freezer is not working properly, it may be a minor problem, therefore to save time and money, check the following before calling an electrician.

What to do if your refrigerator does not operate,

Check that:

• There is no power,
• The general switch in your home is disconnected,
- The thermostat setting is on the “•” position,
- The socket is not sufficient. To check this, plug in another appliance that you know is working into the same socket.

What to do if your refrigerator performs poorly

Check that:

  • You have not overloaded the appliance,
    • The doors are closed properly,
    • There is no dust on the condenser,
  • There is enough place at the rear and side walls.

If there is noise:

The cooling gas which circulates in the refrigerator circuit may make a slight noise (bubbling sound) even when the compressor is not running. Do not worry this is quite normal. If you hear any other noises, check that:

• The appliance is level,
- Nothing is touching the rear of the appliance,
- The objects on the appliance are vibrating.

If there is water in the lower part of the refrigerator

Check that:

The drain hole for the water is not clogged (use defrost drain plug to clean the drain hole)

Recommendations

  • In case of a sudden power loss, or unplugging and plugging in the plug to the electrical socket, the compressor protective thermal element will open as the pressure of the gas in the cooling system of your refrigerator is not yet balanced. Your refrigerator will start to operate 4 or 5 minutes later, this is normal.
  • The cooling unit of your refrigerator is hidden in the rear of the appliance. Therefore, water droplets or ice may form on the rear surface of your fridge due to the operation of the compressor at specified intervals. This is normal. There is no need to perform a defrosting operation unless the icing is excessive.
  • If you do not intend to use your fridge for a long time (e.g. in summer holidays), set the thermostat to “•” position. After defrosting, clean your fridge and leave the door open to prevent humidity and smell.
  • If a problem persists after you have followed all the instructions above, please consult to the nearest Authorised Service Centre.
  • The appliance you have purchased is designed for domestic use and can only be used at home and for the stated purposes. It is not suitable for commercial or common use. If the consumer uses the appliance in a way that does not comply with this, we emphasise that the manufacturer and the dealer will not be responsible for any repair and failure within the guarantee period.

Tips for saving energy

  1. Install the appliance in a cool, well ventilated room, but not in direct sunlight and not near a heat source (radiator, cooker.. etc). Otherwise use an insulating plate.
  2. Allow warm food and drinks to cool down outside the appliance.
  3. When thawing frozen food, place it in the refrigerator compartment. The low temperature of the frozen food will help to cool the refrigerator compartment when it is thawing. This will help to save energy. If the frozen food is put out, it results in a waste of energy.
  4. Cover drinks or other liquids when placing them in the appliance Otherwise humidity increases in the appliance. Therefore, the working time gets longer. Also covering drinks and other liquids helps to preserve smell and taste.
  5. Try to avoid keeping the doors open for long periods or opening the doors too frequently as warm air will enter the cabinet and cause the compressor to switch on unnecessarily often.
  6. Keep the covers of the different temperature compartments (crisper, chiller ...etc) closed
  7. Door gasket must be clean and pliable. Replace gaskets if worn.
