The ignition switch (key switch, called tändningslåset in Swedish) is the main electronic and control system of the AL-KO Pro 700 V2 mower. It controls the power supply to the engine and ensures that the mower only starts or operates if all safety conditions are met.
Normal operation of the switch: Insert the key into the lock (reference 01/3, 05 on the diagram). The switch has three main positions: position 0 to completely stop the engine, position II for normal operation, and position III for starting. When starting, turn the key to position III and hold it for about 5 seconds to allow the starter to engage the engine. Once the engine has started, release the key which will automatically return to position II. The key can only be removed in position 0.
Checks in case of starting problems: If the engine does not start, first check that you are sitting correctly on the seat, as the seat safety switch must function: simply lifting the seat cuts off the power to the engine. Also, check that the parking brake (brake pedal) is fully engaged in the low position, as the brake switch also ensures starting safety. Visually inspect the key itself for any wear, cracks, or deformation that would prevent proper insertion into the lock.
Diagnosis of electrical problems: If the starter does not respond at all, check that the starter battery is not weak or discharged: recharge it fully before trying again. Ensure that all cables connected to the ignition lock and battery are tight and free of corrosion. The absence of a spark at the spark plug may also indicate a problem with the ignition system: examine the ignition cable and the spark plug, and clean the latter if it is dirty, or replace it if it is damaged.
Related safety switches: The AL-KO Pro 700 V2 mower has several safety switches interconnected with the ignition switch: the parking brake switch, the cutting deck switch (which cuts off the ignition if you operate the mower without being seated), the seat switch, and the grass collection bin switch. If any of these switches are malfunctioning, the engine cannot start or stops for no reason. Test each safety feature by following the instructions in the manual: press the brake pedal, sit firmly, ensure that the cutting deck is not activated.
Replacing the switch: If after these checks the ignition switch still does not function properly, it may be necessary to replace it with a compatible original part (check the reference on your mower). This operation should be carried out by an authorized AL-KO customer service or a specialized workshop, as it requires electrical knowledge and access to the internal wiring of the mower.
