Startup / Operation

Prior to first use

BOMANN GB 7246 - Startup / Operation - 1

CAUTION:

After transport, the appliance should be left standing upright for four hours before connecting to the power supply. Nonobservance could lead to malfunction of the cooling system and causes an appliance breakdown.

Clean the appliance interior including all accessory parts. Consider the instructions which we provide in the chapter "Cleaning and Maintenance".

Starting the appliance

  • Connect the appliance to the power supply.
  • Operate the temperature control at the appliance back. See also the following sections.

Settings

The power levels control the different values of the internal temperature. Turning the temperature control clockwise will lower the inside temperature.

Power level
1, 2lowest level,warmest internal temperature
3, 4medium level,optimal operating temperature
5*highest level,coldest internal temperature

*Beware of high settings: the compressor is running continuously.

Basically, the temperature changes depending on the ambient temperature (place of installation), the frequency of opening the door and the equipment.

For initial operation, first set the lowest possible internal temperature (= highest power level) until the appliance has reached the desired operating temperature. It is recommended to reset to a medium power level afterwards, then you can easily make any temperature correction.

Recommendation, for optimized food storage and to avoid food waste, a medium power level is generally best. A high power level also increases energy consumption.

To be able to check the cooling performance, you ideally need a freezing thermometer. Place it in the appliance.

The ideal temperature is -18^ . A less cold temperature setting may shorten food durability.

Equipment

Note that the equipment varies depending on the appliance type.

The various shelves or drawers can be removed for individual storage. Also practical for cleaning purposes.

BOMANN GB 7246 - Equipment - 1

NOTE:

For the most efficient use of energy, place all shelves/drawers in their original positions.

Removing / inserting the shelves

- To remove, open the unit door completely, lift the shelf, if necessary, slant slightly and pull it out to the front.

BOMANN GB 7246 - Removing / inserting the shelves - 1

natural_image Simple line drawing of a stylized roof awning with wavy lines and a black triangular accent (no text or symbols)

- Safely reinsert the shelf and push it in until the stop is reached.

Ice cube tray

Depending on the model, an ice cube tray for making ice cubes is included with the appliance.

  • Fill the ice cube tray about 34 full of water. Then place the tray flat in the freezer for a few hours.
  • To release the ice cubes from the tray more easily, you can briefly hold the tray under warm water.

Storing food

BOMANN GB 7246 - Storing food - 1

NOTE: Recommendation!

To guarantee that the temperature is low enough, you should pre-cool the appliance a few times before initial loading foods.

BOMANN GB 7246 - NOTE: Recommendation! - 1

CAUTION:

Always pay attention to the storage instructions on the sales packaging.

The 4-star freezer allows you to store frozen food at a temperature of -18°C or colder for several months; to prepare ice cubes and to freeze fresh food.

To avoid contamination of food, respect the following instructions:

  • Opening the door for long periods can cause a significant increase of the temperature in the compartments of the appliance.
  • Clean regularly surfaces that can come in contact with food and accessible drainage systems (see "Cleaning and Maintenance").

  • S tore raw meat and fish in suitable containers in the refrigerator, so that it is not in contact with or drip onto other food.

  • Two-star ^** frozen-food compartments are suitable for storing pre-frozen food, storing or making ice-cream and making ice-cubes.
  • One- *, two- ** or three-star *** compartments are not suitable for the freezing of fresh food.
  • If the appliance is out of use for long period, follow the instructions under "Switching off".

Freezing

  • CAUTION, refer to the enclosed product data sheet for the maximum amount of food in kg that can be frozen in 24 hours. If the quantity is greater, the quality of the freezing and the already frozen food will be affected.
  • Fresh food should be frozen as fast as possible to the core. During freezing operation, the temperature of fresh food should be lowered as fast as possible to keep formation of ice crystals as little as possible and not to damage the food structure.
  • Keep a space between the individual items, so that the cold air can circulate.

Storing frozen food

  • Packed frozen merchandise should be stored in accordance with the manufacturer's data. Make sure the food items do not defrost after purchase and to store them as fast as possible in the freezer.
  • It is possible to store food for longer periods of time. The period might vary, so observe the storage information on the packaging of the merchandise.

General safety precautions

- Do not store bottles or cans. These can break when the contents freeze – or even explode if they contain carbonated drinks.

  • Once products have been defrosted halfway or completely, they should be consumed as soon as possible and should not be frozen again, except they have been processed to a ready meal.
  • Do not eat food that is still frozen. Do not eat ice cream directly from the freezer. The cold can cause injuries in the oral cavity.
  • Touching metal parts inside the unit can cause symptoms like burns if the skin is very sensitive.
  • Never touch frozen food with moist or wet hands.

Packing frozen food

Always select packaging suitable for the food and pack it properly.

- Freeze in portions. Suitable for packaging are e.g. plastic films, polyethylene tubular films, aluminum foil, freezer cans.
