Frequently Asked Questions - Spark Dubstep Arturia

How to install Spark Dubstep software on Windows?
Insert the installation DVD, run SPARK Setup.exe, follow the instructions. Accept the license, choose complete or custom installation. Then connect the controller via USB to install the driver. On Windows XP, follow the manual procedure by selecting the Spark_XP.inf file.
How to register and activate Spark Dubstep software?
Go to www.arturia.com/login and create an account or log in. In the My Registered Products section, click Add, select SPARK Software, enter your serial number and unlock code. You will receive an activation code by email to copy into the authorization window at software launch.
How to connect the Spark controller to the computer?
Use the supplied USB cable to connect the controller to a USB 2.0 port on your computer. The Spark Creative controller can also be powered via USB or via a 9 V DC adapter. For SparkLE, power is only via USB. Make sure to use a powered USB hub if necessary.
How to create a first pattern in Spark?
Launch the software and select a kit. In the sequencer area, click on the step pads (1 to 16) to enable or disable notes. Use the transport buttons (Record, Play) to record your sequence. You can adjust the tempo with the dedicated potentiometer.
How to use the Roller effect on an instrument?
Press the Roller button to activate the effect. Choose a subdivision (1/4, 1/8, etc.) by clicking on the XY pad. Then hold down the pad of the desired instrument (e.g., snare). The roll effect will be applied. You can lock the effect by holding Select + Roller.
How to calibrate pad sensitivity?
In the Spark MIDI Controller (for Spark Creative) or MIDI Control Center (for SparkLE) software, go to the Action menu and select Calibrate Pads. Strike each pad three times as prompted. LEDs indicate progress. To restore factory settings, use Restore Factory Calib.
How to save a project in Spark?
In the toolbar, click the Save button. You can also use the shortcut Ctrl+S (Windows) or Cmd+S (Mac). Projects are saved in Spark format. To export a pattern as MIDI, drag the pattern from the Song/Pattern area to a host software or the desktop.
How to use the XY effects pad?
The XY pad allows real-time control of the Filter, Slicer, and Roller effects. Select an effect with the corresponding buttons, then move your finger or mouse over the pad. The X-axis controls frequency (or subdivision for Slicer) and the Y-axis controls resonance (or other parameters depending on the effect).
How to synchronize Spark with a host software (DAW)?
In Spark preferences, enable the Host option to follow your DAW's tempo. To send MIDI to the host, select Send MIDI from the pads or sequencer. Set the MIDI input in your DAW to the public port Spark Controller. For Logic Pro, create an IAC driver and connect the port.
What to do if the Spark controller stops responding?
Check the USB connection and try another port. Ensure the driver is properly installed. For the Spark Creative controller, hold down the Filter+Slicer+Roller buttons to enter MIDI mode, then re-establish the connection via the Spark MIDI Controller software. If the problem persists, restart the computer and the controller.
