Introduction Congratulations on the purchase of your new appliance. You have clearly decided in favour of a quality product. These operating instructions are a component of the product. They supply you with important information for the intended use, safety and disposal. Before using the product, please familiarise yourself with all of the operating and safety instructions. Use the appliance only as described and only for the purposes indicated. Additionally, pass these instructions on to whoever might acquire the appliance at a future date. Intended Use This appliance is intended for the boiling-up of water in domestic households. It is not intended for use with other liquids or for commercial applications. Do not use the appliance until it has been completely assembled. This appliance is intended exclusively for use in domestic households. Do not use the appliance for commercial applications! WARNING Risks from unintended use! Risks can be engendered by the appliance if it is used for unintended purposes and/or for other types of use. ► Use the appliance exclusively for its intended purposes. ► Observe the procedures described in these operating instructions. Claims of any kind resulting from damage caused by improper use, incompetent repairs, unauthorised modifications or the use of non-approved spare parts will not be acknowledged. Safety instructions DANGER - RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK! ► Ensure that the base with the electrical connections NEVER comes into contact with water! Ensure that the base is com- pletely dry before use, especially if it has accidentally be- come wet. ► Use the kettle only with the supplied base. ► Ensure that the power cable never becomes wet or damp during operation. Lay the cable so that it cannot be trapped or otherwise damaged. ► To avoid risks, arrange for defective plugs and/or cables to be replaced at once by qualified technicians or our Customer Service Department. ► After use, ALWAYS remove the plug from the mains power socket. Switching the appliance off is not sufficient, because the appliance is under power for as long as the plug is con- nected to the power socket. ► Before use check the appliance for signs of visible external damage. Do not put into operation an appliance that is da- maged or has been dropped. ► Repairs should only be carried out by authorized specialist companies or by the Customer Service department. Incompetent repairs can result in significant risks for the user. In addition warranty claims become void. ► Do not allow any liquid to run over the appliance’s plug connections. NEVER submerse the appliance in water or other liquids! You could receive a fatal electric shock if residual liquids come into contact with live components during operation.SWKS 3100 I2

 5 ■ WARNING – RISK OF INJURY! ► Heat water only with the lid closed, otherwise the automatic switch-off cannot function. Boiling water could then spray out over the rim. ► Hot steam clouds may be released. The kettle also becomes very hot during use. It is always best to wear oven mitts when handling the kettle. ► Ensure that the appliance is stood stably and vertically before switching it on. Boiling water can cause an unstable kettle to fall over. ► Do not open the lid while the water is boiling. ► This appliance may be used by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and/or knowledge if they are supervised or, in regard to the safe use of the appliance, have been instructed in its use and have understood the potential risks. ► This appliance may be used by children aged 8 years or more if they are supervised or, in regard to the safe use of the appliance, have been instructed in its use and have understood the potential risks. Cleaning and user mainte- nance tasks should not be carried out by children unless they are aged 8 years or more and are supervised. The device and its connecting cable must be kept away from children younger than 8 years old. ► Children may not play with the appliance. ► Do not fill the kettle above the MAX mark! Otherwise boiling water may spill out! ► Do not operate the appliance without the scale filter insert. ► After use, the surfaces of the heating elements will still have some residual heat. ► Misuse may result in physical injury! CAUTION – PROPERTY DAMAGE! ► Do not use an external timing switch or a separate remote control system to operate the appliance. ► Never leave the appliance unsupervised whilst in use. ► Ensure that the appliance, the power cable and the plug do not come into contact with hot plates or open flames. Preparation Unpacking Ƈ Remove all components of the appliance and the operating manual from the carton. Ƈ Remove all packing material. Cable winder A cable winder 5 is arranged on the base 4 of the appliance. This winder 5 allows you to adjust the length of the cable to your local requirements. CAUTION – PROPERTY DAMAGE! ► Always guide the cable through the corresponding recess on the base 4, which is intended for this purpose, in order to ensure stability. Initial use WARNING – RISK OF INJURY! ► Always and only use freshly drawn mains water in the kettle! Do not consume any water that is not certified as potable. If you do, you are taking a risk with your health! Before starting the appliance up, make certain that … – the appliance, plug and power cable are in a serviceable condition and … – all packaging materials have been removed from the appliance.

1) Open the lid by pressing on the release button 1.

2) Fill the appliance with water up to the MAX mark and let it come to a full

boil once – as described in the next section.

3) After it has boiled, pour this water away.

5) Refill the appliance with water up to the MAX mark, and then bring it to the

boil. When done, pour this water away also.

6) Rinse the kettle out with clear water.

The appliance is now ready for use. Boiling water DANGER – ELECTRICAL SHOCK! ► Never place the electrical base 4 close to water – this would be a potentially fatal risk! WARNING – RISK OF INJURY! ► Always use freshly drawn water. Do not consume any water that has alrea- dy stood in the kettle for longer than one hour. Do not reboil water that has cooled down. Always pour old water away. Microbes could have formed in it! NOTE ► Always ensure that the ON/OFF switch 3 is not pressed down when the mains plug is unplugged and the appliance is standing on the base 4. Otherwise the appliance could heat up unintentionally as soon as the mains plug is plugged in again.

1) Lift the kettle off of the base when filling it!

2) Press the release button 1 and open the lid.

NOTE ► When filling it, hold the kettle upright. This is the only way to read the markings on the scale 2 correctly.

3) Fill the jug at least as far as the MIN mark, so that the appliance does not

overheat, and no more than the MAX mark to ensure that no boiling water can spill out.

4) First close the lid, then place the kettle on the base 4, so that it sits securely

3 downwards so that it engages. WARNING – RISK OF INJURY! ► For safety reasons you should not open the lid when the water is boiling or extremely hot. There is a risk of scalding.

7) The light in the ON/OFF switch

8) As soon as the water is boiling, the appliance will switch off automatically, the

ON/OFF switch 3 clicks upwards and the light goes out. NOTE

This appliance is fitted with an overheating protector: if the appliance is switched on accidentally, without any water in the kettle, the appliance automatically switches itself off. If, for example due to a non-closed lid the appliance boils dry, the appliance switches off automatically. In such cases first allow the appliance to cool down before using it again. Cleaning and Care DANGER – ELECTRICAL SHOCK! ► Before cleaning, ALWAYS remove the plug from the mains power socket! There is the risk of receiving an electric shock! ► Do not open any part of the housing. There are no user-serviceable elements inside. An open housing will create the risk of a potentially fatal electrical shock. NEVER submerse the appliance in water or other liquids! You could receive a fatal electric shock if residual liquids come into contact with live components during operation. WARNING – RISK OF INJURY! ► Let the appliance cool sufficiently before cleaning it. Risk of Burns! CAUTION – PROPERTY DAMAGE! ► Do not use abrasive or aggressive cleaning materials. These could attack the upper surfaces and irreparably damage the appliance. ■ Clean the exterior surfaces and the power cable with a slightly damp cloth. Be sure to dry the appliance well before taking it back into use. For stubborn soiling use a mild detergent on the cloth. Ensure that there are no detergent residues in and on the appliance before it is taken back into use. ■ Rinse the inside of the kettle out with clean water. ■ If there are any deposits in the kettle, wipe out the inside surface with a moist cloth, or use a washing up brush or bottle brush. Then rinse the kettle out with clean water again.SWKS 3100 I2

 9 ■ In the event of scale deposits Scale deposits on the bottom of the appliance lead to increased energy con- sumption and reduce the service life of the appliance. Descale the appliance as soon as scale deposits become apparent. ■ Use a descaler designed for household appliances (e.g. for coffee machines). Proceed as detailed in the instructions provided for the use of the decalcifying agent. ■ After descaling, rinse the appliance with lots of clean water. Inserting/removing the scale filter insert The spout of the kettle is fitted with a scale filter 6 insert, which can become clogged with particles or scale over time. To clean the scale filter 6 insert, simply remove it from the appliance.

NOTE ► If scale deposits have solidified in the scale filter insert 6, place the filter in a water-vinegar solution with a ratio of 6:1 for a few hours. The scale depo- sits will dissolve. Rinse the scale filter insert 6 with plenty of fresh water. Storage ■ Allow the appliance to cool down completely before putting it into storage. ■ Wind the power cable around the cable winder 5 under the base 4. ■ Store the appliance at a dry location.SWKS 3100 I2 ■ 10 

Troubleshooting Problem Cause Remedy The appliance does not function. The plug is not inserted into a mains power socket. Insert the plug into a mains power socket. The appliance is not switched on. Switch the appliance on. The appliance is defective. In this case, contact Customer Services. The appliance is overheated and the overheating protection is active. Allow the appliance to cool down. Disposal Applies only to France: The product, its packaging and the operating instructions are recyclable. They are subject to an extended manufacturer responsibility and will be collected separately. Disposal of the appliance The adjacent symbol of a crossed-out dustbin means that this appliance is subject to Directive 2012/19/EU. This directive states that this appliance may not be disposed of in the normal household waste at the end of its useful life, but must be taken to specially set-up collection locations, recycling depots or disposal companies. The disposal is free of charge for the user. Protect the environment and dispose of this appliance properly. If your old appliance has stored any personal data, you are responsible for deleting it yourself before returning it. Your local community or municipal authorities can provide information on how to dispose of the worn-out product.SWKS 3100 I2

 11 ■ Disposal of the packaging The packaging materials have been selected for their environmental friendliness and ease of disposal and are therefore recyclable. Dispose of packaging materials that are no longer needed in accordance with applicable local regulations. Dispose of the packaging in an environmentally friendly manner. Note the labelling on the packaging and separate the packaging material components for disposal, if necessary. The packaging material is labelled with abbreviations (a) and numbers (b) with the following meanings: 1–7: plastics, 20–22: paper and cardboard, 80–98: composites. Kompernass Handels GmbH warranty Dear Customer, This appliance has a 3-year warranty valid from the date of purchase. If this product has any faults, you, the buyer, have certain statutory rights. Your statutory rights are not restricted in any way by the warranty described below. Warranty conditions The warranty period starts on the date of purchase. Please keep your receipt in a safe place. This will be required as proof of purchase. If any material or manufacturing fault occurs within three years of the date of purchase of the product, we will either repair or replace the product for you or refund the purchase price (at our discretion). This warranty service requires that you present the defective appliance and the proof of purchase (receipt) within the three-year warranty period, along with a brief written description of the fault and of when it occurred. If the defect is covered by the warranty, your product will either be repaired or replaced by us. The repair or replacement of a product does not signify the beginning of a new warranty period. Warranty period and statutory claims for defects The warranty period is not prolonged by repairs effected under the warranty. This also applies to replaced and repaired components. Any damage and defects present at the time of purchase must be reported immediately after un- packing. Scope of the warranty This appliance has been manufactured in accordance with strict quality guide- lines and inspected meticulously prior to delivery. The warranty covers material faults or production faults. The warranty does not extend to product parts subject to normal wear and tear or to fragile parts which could be considered as consumable parts such as switches, batteries or parts made of glass. The warranty does not apply if the product has been damaged, improperly used or improperly maintained. The directions in the operating instructions for the product regarding proper use of the product are to be strictly followed. Uses and actions that are discouraged in the operating instructions or which are warned against must be avoided. This product is intended solely for private use and not for commercial purposes. The warranty shall be deemed void in cases of misuse or improper handling, use of force and modifications / repairs which have not been carried out by one of our authorised Service centres.
