CAUTION: WRIST STRAP USE

Please use the wrist strap to help prevent injury to other people or damage to surrounding objects or the Wii Remote in case you accidentally let go of the Wii Remote during game play. Also remember the following: people and objects.

  • Step on the Mat Controller only in your bare feet. DO NOT WEAR SOCKS. Shoes may damage the Mat Controller’s sensors.
  • Position the Mat Controller away from hard flooring or furniture or sharp corners. You may want to place cushions around the Mat Controller to break any fall.
  • Dry the mat thoroughly before using to prevent any slipping. If the Mat Controller becomes wet with sweat or other liquid, stop playing and dry it.
  • Do not play with the Mat Controller if you are currently consulting a doctor, if you are pregnant, or if vigorous exercise may be bad for your health. If you experience pain, discomfort or fatigue while using the Mat Controller discontinue use.
  • Do not use the Mat Controller if you are under the influence of alcohol or other drugs that can impair your balance, perceptions and judgment.
  • Children should be supervised by an adult to ensure safe use of the Mat Controller.
  • Do not keep the Mat Controller near open flames or other heat sources.

Connecting the Mat Controller Mat Controller This page explains basic controls for the Mat Controller. For in-game control methods, please see page 12 onwards. Important Safety Information Make sure that the Wii console’s power is turned OFF. Important: Connect the Mat Controller before turning on your Wii console. Connecting the Mat Controller Connect the Mat Controller's plug to the corresponding Controller Socket on the Wii console. Be sure to connect it to Controller Socket 1 on the Wii console. Note: If you connect the Mat Controller to any Controller Socket besides Controller Socket 1, you will not be able to use it for gameplay.   • In this instructional booklet, the Pointer is used to choose a menu item. Similarly A Button and + Button are used for confirming a selection, and B Button and – Button are used for canceling a selection and going back to the previous screen.7 Single Player Game Mode Selection Screen Choose a game mode to play from the three available options by pointing to it. Press A Button or + Button to confirm.
  • Wearing socks or shoes during actual game play can result in slipping or damaging the game equipment. Please be sure to be barefoot while playing. Outdoor Adventure In this game mode, you tackle an athletic course made up of several single player events. See page 8. Exercise Training This option helps you to gradually get into shape. Select the activi- ties where you feel you need the most training. See page 9. Free Play In this game mode, you are free to choose and play whichever events you want. See page 10.

Let’s Choose a Character Single Player Mode Character Selection Screen Point to the character you’d like to play as, then press A Button or + Button. If you select “Start without saving”, no data except for game rankings will be saved. About Miis In ACTIVE LIFE: Outdoor Challenge, you can play using Miis that you’ve created in the Mii Channel.

  • Refer to the “Wii Operations Manual – Channels and Settings” for more information about creating Miis in the Mii Channel.
  • If you selected “Start without saving” on the Character Selection Screen, you’ll be able to choose from the Miis saved on your Wii Remote. Miis saved on the Wii console will not be able to be chosen. Creating individual data the first time you play! [1] Point to “New” and press A Button or + Button. Individual data will be created. [2] Point to the character you’d like to use, then press A Button or + Button. If Mii data that you’ve saved in the Mii Channel is saved on the Wii console, you’ll be able to pick a Mii.
  • You can’t select a Mii saved on the Wii Remote to create individual data. [3] Time to input your name! Point to a character and press A Button or + Button to input it. After confirming the name, your individual data will be complete.
  • If you chose a Mii in step [2], then you’ll be able to select a body type for your Mii, rather than inputting a name. Point to either “Adult” or “Child” and press A Button or + Button to confirm. How Do I Erase Individual Data? Point to “Delete” on the Character Selection Screen and press A Button or + Button. Next, point to the data you’d like to erase, and press A Button or + Button to erase it.8 9 Choose an outdoor course! Point to the outdoor course you wish to play, and press A Button or + Button. As you complete courses, new ones become available. Look at what’s in each outdoor course! Once you select an outdoor course, a Confirmation Screen appears to let you view the events of that course. Verify the goal of the game and start! After you’ve taken a look at what’s in the selected outdoor course , point to “Start!” and press A Button or + Button. The game’s goal will be shown, and the game will start. After finishing the course, check out your results! Once you’ve completed all of the games for an outdoor course, the Results Screen is displayed. You can press B Button or – Button to view your results in greater detail. Press A Button or + Button to close the Results Screen and continue. Original Courses Original courses are outdoor courses that you can create yourself. To create a course, point to “Create” and press A Button or + Button. Select “Play” using the same controls in order to play an outdoor course that you’ve created. Set up games! Point to the stage you’d like to set up and press A Button or + Button. Then, use the same controls to select a game for that stage. Set the difficulty level and clear conditions! You can set the course’s difficulty level, as well as the conditions necessary to complete the course. Point to C or V and press A Button or + Button to change settings. Once you’ve finished, select “OK”. Outdoor Adventure Single Player Mode continued... Select a type of training! Point to the type of training you’d like to do and press A Button or + Button. You can scroll through the list of training types by pointing to C or V and pressing A Button or + Button. If you select the graph icon next to a training type, you’ll be able to view a daily results graph for that training type. Verify training content and goals, then start the game! Once you select a type of training, you can view what games are in the selected training course. If you point to “Start!” and press A Button or + Button, the goal for the training course will be displayed, and the games will begin. Check your results! After you’ve finished all of the games in the training, the Results Screen will appear, and you can view your results in graph form. Also, when you clear at least one training course in a day, you’ll receive a stamp showing that you completed that day’s training. Graphs and AP (Active Points) After completing training, you’ll receive a number of AP (Active Points), calculated based on how much exercise you performed and other factors. The number of AP received will be graphed on a daily line graph. Point to the “graph icon” and press A Button or + Button. On the Graph Screen, you can check your stamps by pressing A Button or + Button. *The value shown on the graph represents the highest number of AP received for each day. Exercise TrainingChoose a game! Point to the game you want to play, and press A Button or + Button. Scroll through the list of games by pointing to C or V and pressing A Button or + Button. Next, point to a level and press A Button or + Button. Check the controls, then start the game! Once you select a difficulty level, the game’s controls are displayed. Point to “Start!” and press A Button or + Button to start the game. Check your results! When you complete the game, the Results Screen appears. If you scored in the top five, your name is displayed in the rankings.
  • Depending on the game, record ghosts may appear in Free Play Mode. See page 23 for more information about ghosts. About Difficulty Level Each event has difficulty levels that can be chosen for it. More difficulty levels can be unlocked in Free Play Mode by completing the various difficulty levels of “Beginner”, “Intermediate” and “Advanced” in the Outdoor Adventure Single Player Mode.

Single Player Mode continued... Free Play Multi-Player Game Mode Selection Screen After selecting Multi-Player Mode, you will be presented with three available game modes. Point to the option you want to play, then press A Button or + Button. Outdoor Adventure In this game mode, you and a friend take on several outdoor courses, composed of various activities. This mode works in the same way as Outdoor Adventure in Single Player Mode (see pg. 8). Friend Battle In this mode, two people can com- pete in various activities. Game selection here works in the same way as Free Play in Single Player Mode (see pg. 10). Teamwork In these cooperative games, two players can see how well they work together. Choose a game! Point to the game you’d like to play, then press A Button or + Button. Check the controls, then start the game! Once you select a game, the game’s controls are displayed. Point to “Start!” and press A Button or + Button to start the game. Check your results! Once you finish the game, the Results Screen is displayed. Teamwork Ratio, as well as your total AP (Active Points), will be displayed. Multi-Player Mode Teamwork12 13 How Do I View an Explanation of the Control Scheme for a Game? Detailed, on-screen instructions in both Single Player and Multi-Player modes are available for each game.

  • In Free Play, Friend Battle and Teamwork modes, each game’s control scheme automatically appears when you choose a game.
  • In Outdoor Adventure, after selecting an outdoor course, the Confirmation Screen will appear. Point to any game on this screen and press A Button or + Button to view an explanation of that game’s control scheme.
  • In Exercise Training, after selecting a type of training, you will be taken to a list of games in that training course. On this screen, point to any game and press A Button or + Button to view an explanation of the game’s control scheme. The Controls Explanation Screen On the Controls Explanation Screen, point to X and press A Button or + Button to advance to the next page. Point to Z and press A Button or + Button to go back to the previous page. You can return to the Game Confirmation Screen by pressing B Button or – Button.

Get past obstacles by grabbing your board and crouching TIP: A way of getting past objects without jumping is to grab your board while it’s sliding on the ground, which will make you crouch so long as your hands are touching the buttons. Tunnels and other obstacles can be traversed by crouching. Grabbing TIP: While jumping, from the basic position:

If any of the logs touches you, you’ll get knocked down off the tower. Multi-Player Mode RULES: Dodge the logs to stay on the tower longer than your opponent to win. When a log hits you, you’ll get pushed towards the edge of the tower. Get hit three times and you’ll get knocked off of the tower. See how far you can run without falling off the course!

  • CONTROL METHOD: MAT CONTROLLER (1) Time Elapsed (2) Best Time How long can you survive this mad dash? RULES: Run along a stone conveyer belt as the screen constantly scrolls sideways. Run too quickly or too slowly, and you’ll fall off the course! Be on the lookout for stone pillars that will get in your way. Jump over any obstacles that block your way and keep running!
  • Single Player Mode: Keep running as long as possible before falling off the course.
  • Multi-Player Mode: Stay on the course longer than your opponent to win. Log Leaper Conveyer Runner Put your button-pressing skills to the test with this new variation of hot hands!

  • CONTROL METHOD: MAT CONTROLLER (1) Number of Wins Press the button more quickly than your opponent! RULES: When a button panel changes to the quick-push icon, press that button before your opponent does!
  • Single Player Mode: See how many opponents you can beat in a single match.
  • Multi-Player Mode: The first player to get 3 first-hit icons is the winner!
  • Note: Do not hit the mat with your fists. Play jump rope for as long as you can without tripping.

Pulling Up Player 1 Player 2 should hold the Wii Remote horizontally and stand to the side of the mat controller. Player 2’s job is to pull the Wii Remote upwards in perfect timing with Player 1’s jumps to aid Player 1 up the waterfall. Waterfall Climber TIPS If you lose your footing... Both players must cooperate to help the character climb to safety on the nearest rock. PLAYER 1 CONTROLS When hanging by a rope… Step on and in an alternating pattern. When hanging onto a rock…

  • Right side: and Step on the two buttons corresponding to the rock’s position in an alternating pattern. PLAYER 2 CONTROLS Hold the Wii Remote vertically and shake it quickly. Finally, work together to climb over the top of the waterfall! Once you climb up all of the rocks, the final cooperation challenge will begin. PLAYER 1 CONTROLS Step on and in an alternating pattern. PLAYER 2 CONTROLS Hold the Wii Remote vertically and shake it quickly. Game Controls continued…22 23 Viewing Personal Data CHOOSE A CHARACTER! On the Main Menu, choose “View/Delete Personal Data” and a screen showing a list of all of your registered characters will appear. Point to the character for which you’d like to view data, and press A Button or + Button. Personal Data Screen You can view three types of information on the Personal Data Screen. To switch the screen and scroll through information, point to C or V and press A Button or + Button. You can also use the +Control Pad on the Wii Remote or on the Mat Controller. Deleting Personal Data On the Character List Screen, point to “Delete” and press A Button or + Button. Point to the character whose data you’d like to erase, and press A Button or + Button to show the Confirmation Screen. Once you choose “Yes” to confirm the deletion, the character’s data will be erased. View/Delete Personal Data Character Information Screen Graph Information Screen Results List Screen View your character’s name, visual appearance, and any rewards earned. View a graph over time of AP (Active Points) collected daily. View a list of results (best scores and times) for the various events in Single Player Mode’s “Free Play” mode. Selecting Game and Difficulty Point to the game for which you’d like to see rankings, and press A Button or + Button. Next, select the difficulty level. The current rankings will be displayed. Choosing the Options Menu To set game options, point to the Options Menu and press A Button or + Button. Save This will save current game data. Ghost Display You can use this to turn display of ghost data ON or OFF.
  • A ghost is a way of showing and competing against your previous performance and actions in an event. Autosave This lets you switch the auto-save feature ON or OFF.
  • If you turn this OFF, auto-saves will no longer be performed. Staff Credits This lets you see the credits for the game.
